Well there’s very little margin for error when the frugal owner operates as he does. Doesn’t play at top of free agent market, doesn’t spend on 16 year old international talent, doesn’t spend money on prep players in round 1, etc. Fuck Jerry Reinsdorf. Nobody should feel bad for him.8 points

You people do not obviously consider defense at all. And offensively it's already pretty close. Vazquez is way better than Grandal.5 points

In what world is Christian Vazquez better than Grandal? I’m gonna need this explained to me. That’s absurd.5 points

It was pointed out somewhere that Rendon will likely get a contract double the size of Springer and is a very comparable player overall. Given our massive hole in RF, adding a player of his caliber for anything below 5/$125M is an absolute steal. Do that, add a couple of B/C tier starters in free agency, and save your chips for the deadline in the event you still need a TOR starter.5 points

Why doesn’t McCann get shit on the way Grandal does when he drops pop ups or gets called for multiple catcher’s interferences?3 points

I have said this for years and I still say it. Grandal is the #1 catcher in the game. I like him over realmuto3 points

I know I don't come on this board much anymore, but is there really a subset of fans that don't like Grandal? I'm so confused. He's a slam dunk top 3 catcher in the game. How is this a real thing?3 points

2 people died from Ebola, the right said Obama should resign. 4 died in Benghazi, Hillary had to testify for 11 hours, they had 33 hearings in a multi year probe. 250k died because Trump decided Coronavirus was over, so they cheer him on and play along with him about maybe he didn’t lose an election.3 points

I just posted one blog link because there are videos in it showing off his arm and pickoff throws. But of course because it's a blog with a spelling error the evidence of at least some of his defensive abilities can be ignored. Yep, sounds like a typical Grandal supporter. I bet even TLR's wife doesn't even make as many excuses for his behavior as you Grandal supporters make for Grandal's behavior.2 points

https://vendettasportsmedia.com/christian-vazquez-best-cather-baseball/ There are a lot of things on the internet. But Grandal is often a dope and Vazquez is one of the top defensive C in baseball, and his offensive game has developed as well. He's cheaper also. He's just better. There was something I read in the offseason also about a scout talking about Realmuto being the clear #1 and Vazquez the clear #2 and then there's a big dropoff after that. But if all you want to think about is framing or whatever than I guess whatever. But Vazquez is still better anyway.2 points

Even if they are trying to resign McCann, how does that contradict what I said? You said JR is tired of throwing money at free agents and getting nothing in return. Well, they threw money at Grandal and got exactly what they paid for. They also threw money at Kuechel and got more than most people expected.2 points

I get Grandal can be frustrating player at times, but the hate he gets on this board is astounding at times.2 points

I’m not sure “capitalism“ actually exists. Walmart, Amazon, etc. often get huge land discounts and tax advantages because they “create jobs.” Corporate farmers, oil companies, etc. get subsidies. Airlines, car manufacturers, banks, etc. get bailouts. Real estate tycoons are able to offset their “losses” and end up paying little to no taxes. In a true capitalist society, the strong survive. Why is it ok for the government to assist these people but not the poor and disadvantaged? Why do Fortune 500 companies receive government assistance that isn’t available to small businesses owners, small time landlords, and single family farms?2 points

Totally agree. I'm a little worried they aren't going to go outside the box for the bench job. But the Katz hiring gives me hope they can get someone good from outside the organization.2 points

You do realize that people who stood up for those things and ran on them overwhelmingly won re-election, right? The Democrats who tried to distance themselves from those policies had either lost or had a tough race. Of those who co-sponsored M4A, all won re-election. 99 out of 100 HOR members thant co-sponsored the GND won re-election. Florida(a notoriously purple state) voted for a $15 minimum wage. Policies that help the average American win.2 points

Here's the beauty of Mitch McConnell. He made you blame Nancy Pelosi for things he did. Observe timeline. 1. Democrats pass bill in the House in May, $3 trillion+ including aid to states, checks to everyone, aid to restaurants, schools, etc. Dead on arrival in Senate. https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-05-16/house-passes-3-trillion-coronavirus-stimulus-package 2. Democrats try to negotiate. McConnell allows 2 votes on $600 billion-scale bills that he know won't pass. Both bills fail in their votes. https://www.vox.com/2020/9/10/21429678/senate-stimulus-vote https://www.vox.com/2020/10/21/21525735/mitch-mcconnell-stimulus-senate-vote 3. Democrats keep trying other offers. Here's dropped to a $2.2 trillion bill. https://appropriations.house.gov/news/press-releases/house-democrats-release-updated-version-of-the-heroes-act 4. McConnell generally disapproves of the whole thing. Nothing gets passed whatsoever. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/10/20/business/us-economy-coronavirus 5. You blame the Democrats for being stubborn and not negotiating, when they did. You can literally look at the list of bills they passed and how they offered compromises in the middle, but that's not good enough unless it's 100% his bill. That's the amazing success of McConnell at destroying our system. He knows if he refuses everything, you blame both sides, because it can't possibly just be his fault right? He's played you like a fiddle.2 points

I posted this elsewhere a while back, but it is also appropriate here. It's too bad Jose didn't get here 2-4 years earlier, because he could/would be looking at HOF numbers.2 points

Could be all three no doubt, but the Portillo’s account was tweeting stuff silently for months before anyone noticed. Their first post is leaking the Bummer deal back in February, three months after the Not Steve Cishek account was created and when that account still had credibility. It’s clear as day to me that Cheesy Beef account was created in some desperate attempt to validate the Not Steve Cishek account. Those two are definitely one and the same. I think the Portillo’s account is someone else, but likely someone in the same inner circle. It’s very clear there is a small group of people who have access to some inside info, whether it‘s coming from a shared source or it’s being shared to them second hand from a more reliable insider like Y2Jimmy. Most of the stuff Not Steve Cishek broke are things that James had at roughly the same time and his big trade deadline deal that was supposed to be happening with the Brewers seems to overlap with bad info that WSD also had. To me, these accounts all fall in one of three buckets: 1) They’re completely fake. 2) They’re legit insiders using burner accounts to avoid outing their sources. 3). They have access to inside info but it comes from a friend so they can’t leak it on their personal account. IMO, Not Steve Cishek likely falls into bucket three as we have seen him get some things right. Portillo’s is still up in the air, but I could see him being in that second bucket. Again, just strange they posted for months and continued to do so without anyone noticing.2 points

My 2 cents on this Portillo's guy: I definitely think it's notable that he got the Bummer deal a week before we knew about it. But think back to the Not Cishek account- people didn't start sharing his tweets for no reason. If memory serves, he got the Cishek deal (lol), he tweeted that Robert was close to signing an extension the day before he signed an extension, and he was first (even before James) on the Moncada extension talks. Could they have all been guesses? Sure. But I don't think the Portillo's guy deserves that much more benefit of the doubt. And I definitely don't think his word should be taken as gospel while people throw temper tantrums when a Cishek tweet is posted just because he was wrong at the trade deadline. All that being said, I believe Cishek, Portillo's, and Al's are all run by the same guy in an effort to save his credibility, and it's working, as everyone is loving the Portillo's account now. But, if he's ever wrong about anything, don't be surprised if there's a fourth account that also happens to like, retweet, and reply to the first three.1 point

Honestly wouldn't care if he didn't like me. Plenty of people on the internet who don't and I'm an idiot who gives people reason to feel that way by my rhetoric online sometimes. I def think it's unfair unless you've met me in person, but it is what it is. That said the whole tired act of "barstool is racist and sexist" is so goddamn stupid. Ask the many people of color or our CEO, CMO and CFO if they think barstool is racist or sexist. Then on the flip side, google some of the horror stories of shit that has gone on ESPN. Nobody says a peep about them being racist or homophobic It just annoys me to no end. Fuck off1 point

I thought I read that he was shut down due to an elbow issue. Neck pain could also be an issue as it can refer pain to either the shoulder or elbow. If its muscular that's a better sign as they can work with the scapula mechanics which is usually the cause of that type of neck pain.1 point

7 days. He has been manager for seven days. In November. He has no coaching staff. He has 38 men on a roster to reach out to, but nothing of substance yet to tell him. But because you and other internet posters have chosen to paint him as racist despite the fact that no player since 1979 has as much as suggested that, and have generally said the exact opposite, you believe he needs to prioritze singling out a Black player to ask for his approval. An approach that no managerial hiring in history has used. And when the media asks questions with the clear intent of stirring racial shit, and TA doesn't take the bait, you blame TLR.1 point
