  1. Andrew Vaughn and Michael Kopech are two of the top 25 prospects in baseball. There's no chance in hell that the Rays land both of them for Snell. The dude threw 100 innings in 2019 and 50 in 2020. I wouldn't even headline a package with 1 of them and I understand how awesome Snell is. When your owner is Jerry Reinsdorf and you don't consistently play at the top of the free agent market, you can't trade close to big league ready potential stars. It just doesn't make sense. I'd make a quantity deal with Cease, Dunning, Madrigal etc and if that isn't enough, just trade for Lynn or Musgrove instead. Kopech and Vaughn are too important IMO. I doubt the Rays get 1 prospect ranked as highly as either of Kopech or Vaughn. The problem is the Sox don't have enough guys in that 30-100 overall range prospect wise.

  2. So just for the record, Snell has thrown 7 or more innings one time since the beginning of the 2019 season. And that was in April 2019. Some of that is the Rays, but some is elevated pitch counts. He has made 30 starts exactly one time in his career. I know wins don't matter, but he has won 7 or more games 1 time in his career. That speaks of his inability to go deep into games to me. He has pitched more than 130 innings once in his career. He has struck out more than 150 once. He has had a WHIP beneath 1.2 once. The year he won the Cy Young, his ERA was more than a run lower than his FIP. He had one magnificent season, and has been a good pitcher otherwise. He isn't the guy Sale was when the Sox traded him, he isn't even close, and no one should make that mistake. Honestly, at what the price would likely be, I'm going to pass. And not only because trading with the Rays is horrifying.

  3. Kopech and Vaughn are top 25 prospects in the sport. Vaughn will be a top 10 prospect at some publications and he plays 1B. The White Sox shouldn't be trading guys like that. Spend some of the cheapskate owner's money instead.

  4. Bummer CAN close, but I would MUCH rather have him available anywhere between the 6th and 9th.

  5. 97 wRC+ last year and now 34 years old. Why waste $22M on this dude?

  6. Greg this isn't your personal antifa update thread. It has nothing to do with the election, go find a 8 Chan thread to talk about that bullshit

  7. Look, the Sox saved a ton of money during the rebuild years. Hahn specifically said that saved money would be spent during the contending years. I don't want some cop out, bullshit excuse about the pandemic draining that saved money. Sox need to pony the fuck up and sign Springer or Bauer, and a less free agent. Don't empty the damn farm in a trade. The Rays don't often lose trades. I don't want to trade with them TBH.

  9. Dunning is too good to be the third piece IMO.

  10. Totally. Just use one point of information. Even if there are others available. Why try to get a complete picture?

  11. No, you bring it up all the fucking time until someone indulges your attention seeking and asks you where you are reading all this shit. Don't try and play the victim

  12. What is the appeal of Marquez if we are offsetting his cost control value with a super expensive, aging outfielder while still giving up our cheap depth of prospects? Marquez is a bad option with our assumed prices. Unless the rockies are going to take a package we'd be willing to give, he's a silly target.

  13. I rather the Sox throw everything they can at Bauer and sign no one else and make no trades until after Bauer signs. I don't care about the board freaking out if there is no activity . That should be priority one and make it clear to him how much we want him and plan on winning some World Series with him and would like to sign him asap so we can get on with filling in the rest of the roster. Throwing a shit load of money at Springer is not addressing our priorities.

  14. This right here man. No way I’m making a major trade with the Rays. We’ll end up looking stupid.

  15. 100% agree. To be honest, I bet they see better prospect than Glasnow in Kopech who may have the highest ceiling in baseball. Not saying he will reach it, but the upside with Michael is almost unlimited with the changeup he was flashing pre TJS.

  16. Sign Bauer and don’t trade our young core.

  17. If they don’t have the money for that, then I’m holding onto Vaughn & Kopech and hoping they both hit.

  24. There's no evidence to support that whatsoever. He'd be fine being a DH. Just a weird thing with me...but can we actually have two outfielders that play good defense? Just a thought.

  25. He was playing the biggest centerfield in baseball. He would be fine playing right field for the Sox.

  29. Looks like Kohei Arihara's posting is pretty much certain: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/nippon-ham-fighters-to-post-kohei-arihara.html I don't see him as a difference maker, personally. The stuff is solid, but pretty average as far as MLB starters go, and the control/command comes and goes frequently. When he's locating, the slider and splitter are deadly, but you could say that about pretty much anybody. He's famous because he was a highly heralded prospect who finally "put it all together" in 2019, but really he just had a fantastic first half and fell off hard in the second. It's the longest stretch that he's pitched really well in his career, and he looked like pretty much the same old streaky guy this year. He's one of those guys who will often look unhittable for the first half of an outing and then just meltdown in like the 5th. I can't see him as more than a back-end guy in MLB. Anyway, figured we could put these all in the same thread since teams tend to have philosophies/strategies for dealing with NPB imports, so a lot of the team rumors on these guys will probably look similar. Expecting to find out if OF Haruki Nishikawa and SP Tomoyuki Sugano will be posted soon, especially if the Hawks continue to clobber the Giants and end the Japan Series in a couple days.

  31. In this market, there is zero excuse for not bringing in a quality reliever in on a short-term deal.

  32. Sign a closer/re-sign Colome, unleash Bummer wherever needed. This pen is a big big weapon with proven closer at the back end.

  34. Those are 2 top 50 prospects that are MLB ready. It's a pretty damn good headliner for a deal.

  35. My opinion is you pack the bullpen with upside arms and let a closer emerge. Too much risk of injury and inconsistency to go into the season needing to rely on one guy. If the options was available, I would choose "Budget Closer x3."

  38. 1) We aren't signing Bauer 2) We aren't going to trade for Snell, we aren't that loaded with prospects or money to make something like that smart. 3) We aren't going to ever acquire or sign Conforto. Mets will keep him with their billions of dollars now. 4) We are likely going to get 2 B or C level starting pitchers this offseason. Or more likely, trade for Lynn. 5) For the OF, Springer seems like a possibility, but more in the 15% chance range than over 50%. Lots of teams seem in on him, Mets with billions of dollars, Blue Jays need a prime CF. Honestly, this offseason fucking blows for the W'Sox. Our time was with signing Harper.

  40. So if the Sox don't get any pitchers Cease and Dunning would be in the starting rotation and if we get no closer then Bummer is our closer so in theory we give up 2 starting pitcher both with years of control and a top notch setup guy who just signed an extension for 3 years of a starter who has a small track record and doesn't pitch deep in games. No thank you.

  41. Why are we trading assets for a RF? Sign a free agent to address our OF needs and trade for a high end pitcher where the free agent market is actually weak.

  42. Ahh yes it's the off season , rich with talk of extensions for who we trade for and taking on salary of an overpriced veteran to get who you really want.

  46. I know that the Sox aren't going to bring their affiliates to the local area but I would love to see that happen. Same with the Cubs. Not only could Chicago baseball fans support their favorite teams' minor leaguers but the Sox-Cubs rivalry could be developed at the MiLB level, and I think it would be great for those teams from an attendance and revenue standpoint. Similarly I think it would be ideal if that could occur everywhere where natural rivalries exist. It would be great if the Sox could also play the Brewers affiliates a lot just because there's a lot of interest there as well.
