It will be comprised of teams from the old NY-Penn league. Mahoning Valley, Trenton, Williamsport, State College and West Virginia. Another unnamed team will be added. Yes it's a wood bat league and any draft eligible player can participate. Graduating HS seniors, college Jr's and sr's and JC's. Too many changes going on at the same time so they're bound to F it up.5 points

LOL fuck no on trading Cease for Lynn. I don't even want to give them Dunning. Let's sign Q for a year instead. Fuck the Rangers.5 points

I'll Remember the McCann time with the Sox very well. He caused more confusion as a player here than anyone I can remember. Headline: White Sox sign James McCann. Soxtalk : HE SUCKS ! WTF are we thinking ? He is who he is. 2019 McCann has a career year but crushes the 1st half and not so much the 2nd half but shows good pop and the ability to hit the ball where it's pitched. Soxtalk : He was just hot in the first half . He showed his true self in the 2nd half. He is who we thought he is. He'll never amount to anything. 2020: In the abbreviated season almost every major offensive stat shows improvement yet he is under utilized by the Sox because of the Sox refusal most of the year to carry 3 catchers and to play Edwin Encarnacion at DH. He also improved his Pitch Framing. Soxtalk : He's better than Grandal. You people are nuts. Let's resign him. He's better than Grandal, I tell ya ! Please Sox please please resign McCann.4 points

They're not gonna trade Kelley unless it's a haul back. He's got a chance to be an elite pitching prospect in a year or two. Gio has approached Buehrle status within the organization. Every effort will be made to extend him ASAP.3 points
-
It’s not written in the Bible he can be extended at a reasonable rate so why are we paying for team control that doesn’t yet exist?3 points
-
Or he's prioritized profits over winning, which is why he is a billionaire and hasn't produced regularly winning teams. Winning is a positive side effect, but not a necessary one.3 points

None of these posts are helpful. There is already one big TLR page. If people want to vent on TLR - you got a place for it. If you want to sing his praises - you have a spot for it. If there is actual new news - okay - we can have a new thread.3 points

I am sorry but I can't get behind this. Patience is over. If the window is open its open.3 points

I do think he can evolve. His curve flashed as VERY good, but he barely threw it. Nobody on the sox uses their curve. Maybe that changes with new PC.3 points
-
So you waste pieces that could help you in the heart of this run, for a guy who will be gone in a year. Nah.3 points
-
It depends on what their best offer looks like. If teams aren't offering a lot, they don't have much of a choice. The fact that Lynn didn't go anywhere at the deadline tells me that the offers reflected the lack of control.2 points

The answer is yes. The Sox are at the point where they don't NEED another player to put them over the top offensively, but certainly it would be good to have. We could definitely get away with a Joc Pederson or JBJ and be fine. Hell we could be fine with Engel starting 120 games. The offense is more than solid enough to win a championship if you believe in Vaughn to come in and produce right away. That being said Bryant is the perfect type of match. You get him for one year, you're not committing too much in terms of a contract, in terms of talent given back, etc. It's a no-brainer. If you come out of this offseason and somehow the deals are Kris Bryant for Stiever, 1yr, 20mm & Bauer, 3-4 years at $40mm AAV you've won the offseason. You've got yourself your two biggest needs and your long term risk is very, very reasonable. It wouldn't rob your minor leagues like some trades would do, and it doesn't rob your future payroll flexibility either since you'd have so many guys coming off in 2023, 2024, 2025, etc. 2022- Abreu and his $18mm roll off, Keuchel $18mm 2023 - Yasmani and his $18mm roll off 2024 - theoretically Bauer would roll off at $40mm Leaves you a lot of $$ to play with in the heart of a hunt for a world series all while those guys just named above are still producing since they're not that old/still in their prime. I think a lot of people are caught up in Bryant's 2020, but you're talking about a 24 WAR player in 5 seasons. 5 WAR players should cost what? Isn't it like $6-8mm per WAR? If you can get a 3-5 WAR player, and you're paying $20mm and nothing too significant going back? That's a win. The biggest hurdle is the Cubs possibly giving another piece (Eloy, Cease, Bryant) to a possible championship run - but they don't strike me as someone who cares ... i think if they like Steiver more than whatever the Nats or whoever offer? They'll take it.2 points

My biggest fear is that the TLR hire is an excuse not to spend. If Jerry really convinced himself that the problem was managment, and with a few trades and TLR at the top he can just old school manage his way to the top, we will see the worst of both worlds as we shorten our window and piss away years of this core.2 points

There is a difference between starting all kids, and trading them all away for 1 year of control, you understand that right?2 points

Weren't you also arguing that this is what happened to the cubs when they traded away the next wave? Kelley maturing in 3-4 years is EXACTLY why I want to keep him (and Crochet) to step in to be effective once Keuchel et al are old/gone. Having high-ceiling arms in the farm to act as the next wave is exactly the kind of prospect I want to keep.2 points

Am I the only one comfortable "Trusting the process" and letting Cease, Dunning, and Kopech all have spots in the rotation? We spent years getting excited about these guys and now were already looking to replace at least one of them. Maybe sign a swing guy who gives you some starts while Kopech gets his feet wet again. How was Q out of the pen? That said, while I'm comfortable with it, and don't think its them simply being cheap, I'm still game for Bauer and trading Cease for a RFer.2 points

I keep seeing this brought up in other threads. Most people here hate the hire. It's very unfortunate. However, it is done and over with. It ain't changing. Let's cheer on the White Sox players, not the manager or owner. Quit your complaining and derailing of threads. If it bothers you so much, there is a team on the northside you can cheer for.2 points

Or, I could try to make my point with the team I do like.2 points

That is incredibly low. You are probably looking for something like 70 million just for the last three years of that deal. You need a number like $25 million (or more) for those two free agency years. Lucas is probably at least a $30 million per year pitcher on the open market. He is probably something like a 6/12/20 for his arb years, plus 30 per if he goes year to year. That's almost 90 million dollars. Maybe you get by with 5/10/17.5 and 25/25 an a 30 option for year 6?2 points

I said it last year, and will say it again this year. The Sox are not really a World Champion team as of now. Even a Bauer and Springer type set of additions doesn't put them into the elite level. I think they are probably a playoff team, but there is a clear separation between them and say the Dodgers.h That isn't to say they couldn't win if a lot of things break their way, but they definitely aren't in the stage where they are at their peak. With so many kids on the roster still learning on the job, it feels like 22 or 23 is when you get into more of a sense of urgency.2 points

But if we don't win the World Series now what? Give up another 6 years of another promising young pitcher for another rental. Can't keep doing that. That's why most would rather just sign a pitcher or 2 for a year or 2 and see what we got with Kopech , Dunning ,Cease and Crochet at least. We can give up pitchers behind those 4 since they won't fit the window as well .2 points

I don't think anything is "holding them back", except for maybe Jerry's reluctance to spend the cash necessary to turn this team into an immediate WS contender by going out and signing Bauer, Springer, Quintana, Pederson and a closer and going to business. But now is not the time to push all our chips in via trade and move really any of our élite young talent. Trade from the second tier, or just use money and sign players.2 points

It covers one season, and costs you some amount of capital that can be helping you in years 2-6 of this run. If I am trading those kinds of guys, I want a difference maker that will be around.2 points

Pretty assinine to want to trade Cease/Dunning for Lynn. Lynn is old and a 1 year deal. There's no gurantee he's anywhere aas good aas he's been the past couple of years for the next year.2 points
-
You don't trade Dylan Cease for a 34 year old pitcher on a 1 year deal. Darvish is also 34 but he has a track record of being a strong #2 throughout the majority of his career AND has 3 years of control. Darvish's track record>>>>Lynn's2 points

Dunning is a quality 3/4 pitcher in this league for a long long time. There’s no need to dump him because we’re excited to make a trade for someone marginally (if at all) better than him today.2 points

I'd say so and the owners who think like that are probably the most aggressive. If you are late to the game because you are still afraid Covid will wipe out a lot of the season and there won't be fans in the park again then you are either going to be very smart or very stupid2 points

Phillies were like us just a year earlier and since 2017 signed Arietta, Wheeler, Harper, McCuthchen and Santana for $630 million...and that got them two year where they were a combined four games under .500 record and now they are in a financial mess...so you'll have to explain to me the side benefits they are getting. 2016 Orioles were a young talented team that had won 89 games and gone to the playoffs and paid 160 million (not 60) for Chris Davis and he bombed and now their franchise is in ruins. Last year the Nationals "won" Strasburg for $275 million and they ended up 8 games under .500. You think the Padres spending $450 million on two players the last two years pushed them over the top? You think that won't bite them? Last year they got 4 WAR out of the two of them for $50 million. Next year they will be 28 and 31 and cost them $53 million. OK it would be fun to be the Yankees or Dodgers with their annual $250 million budget...but we aren't so we have to spend money wisely. Last year we got Grandal who is top 3 catcher in baseball...not sure why that's not a blockbuster deal. We also got Keuchel who put up 2.1 WAR for $18 million while the Yankees got the shiny penny in Gerrit Cole who put up 2.2 WAR for $36 million. I honestly think you have PTSD from the rebuild. Come on man we are White Sox fans. They had a great off season last year, the team has a ton of talent, our payroll is only $100 million for next year ($20 million less than the Padres), no really bad contracts on the books (like Meyer and Hoesner are for the Pads) and the free agent market has just begun. Don't wallow in self hatred until we see how this plays out. Enjoy the process.2 points

Yup. I enjoy reading about baseball. Unlike you who seems interested in creating an echo chamber where anyone with an opposing view is encouraged to leave or log out. Despite the tolerance you preach, you seen quite intolerant.2 points
