Why is it that baseball - which is an outdoor game - is the only league crying the end of worlds is here and we need everyone else to subsidize our problems.6 points

The reason people have issues with you and I know you don't care but you use trigger words with which the more sensitive people take umbrage. It makes it seem like you are condescending and superior. Communicating efficiently is not easy and I forgive you for thinking I was taking his side . He doesn't need people thinking he said you are right. There's a lot of people here who probably already think you are too full of yourself without anyone telling you you are right.6 points

LMAO at Soxtalk extrapolating that the Sox are not pursuing Hendriks from whatever Bernstein said, then telling Cheezy Beef that Dan Bernstein said "the sox are not going to sign Hendriks", turning it into Twitter thing with Cheesy Beef and actual Dan Bernstein.5 points

I know you love Harold but sheesh. Harold had these exact same complaints the day they signed grandal, his thoughts haven't changed. Harold has said grandal cost pitchers strikes which is 1000% wrong and indisputable. There are tons of scouts in baseball, they all have opinions and plenty of them are wrong.4 points

Dan is correct. He said that we won't sign anybody to a deal longer than 1 year, but did not say Hendriks was a no go technically. But at least Beef is getting messages from radio celebs to boost his ego and Twitter stats.3 points

Because teammates aren't running around telling scouts that they hate their catcher and don't want to throw to him? Stone doesn't like Grandal's demeanor behind the dish; that much is very obvious. Stone is also a pitcher who has his own opinions on how catchers should be. He has a right to that opinion but projecting that onto the team is just wrong. Stone and Harold loved McCann; he seems like a nice guy and they relate to him. That love of McCann leads people to conclude things. That's fine, but this projection of their opinions onto the opinions of every player is just wrong. If you think there are 13 pitchers complaining to Stone and Harold about their teammate and starting catcher, we'll just agree to disagree. Outsiders divide clubhouses, players know this. It's literally exactly why Tim said "don't interview any other players" about Keuchel's quote.3 points

2/40 is perfect for Lynn. At his age his open market value will be lower than others and I bet he will take less to win a championship/stick with this winning team. I think Hahn could even say 3/50 and we will rip up this years 9mil deal and that would work. IMO you HAVE to lock him up to justify the Dunning cost and "Window open" years3 points

Speaking of burner accounts, I can't believe Look at Ray Ray has more reputation points than I do. That can't be right. Can a mod please check and make sure he isn't liking his own posts with a burner account to stack his reputation points? Whatever, his post-to-reputation ratio is basically the same as mine. His is slightly better than mine currently, but mine is better in reality when you take away his fraudulent reputation points.3 points

He created mayhem on this forum as a distraction once he knew the Sox wouldn't actually be able to afford Machado. The perfect crime.3 points

Title says it all - which players would you like to see extended and what kind of financial framework to you envision being required? The top two guys will likely be Lucas Gioito and Lance Lynn and for me it’s no different. With three year of control left, I think it’s now or never time with Giolito. Buying out a year or two of free agency would be huge and I’d look to start with Aaron Nola’s 4/$45M extension as a starting but would be prepared go sweeter than that. In a perfect world, I’d say something like 4/$50M in guaranteed money plus a club option at like $23M for the 2025 season. I believe that means Lucas would hit feee agency at 31, so perhaps that 5th year will be a bit of hang-up, but it’s definitely what I’d shoot for. As for Lynn, a two year extension beyond the 2021 season is what makes the most sense to me. No idea what he might cost though as there aren’t a ton of great comps. As good as Lynn has been, he’s not getting Verlander’s 2/$66M extension, but something like 2/$40M seems way too light IMO. Does 2/$50M work? Is that too much rich? Again, no idea here but he‘s going to want a nice sized AAV if he agrees to forgoe free agency.2 points

Hahn was tasked to do a very painful rebuild in which the sox were very bad. He did what he was asked for, traded some stars and built a top3 farm system in mlb. It took some time but this year it finally lead to success and the first post season appearance in like a decade. Hahn also took efforts to turn a very backwards organization into at least middle of the pack team in analytics and player dev and when he announced that he fired ricky and cooper he said that he wants to get more analytics personnel in that presser. Hahn was generally celebrated and voted executive of the year by media. But then some stuff happened very quickly. A 75 year old TLR was hired despite jerry knowing the legal allegations but even if not TLR probably wasn't the guy hahn was describing at that presser. Also the signing/trading of two older veterans eaton and lynn doesn't really look like a hahn move. So how did this happen? I get jerry is an old man but he seemed to be fine with hahn modernizing the sox (player dev, coaching, analytics) and making them younger in the last 2-3 years so what did change his mind? The sox are still in a good position to Win but still this seems to be a pretty big change of direction by jerry.2 points

I dislike the 2 party system. Which is why I rarely vote for either in the Presidential election. They both are too extremely recently. Not enough moderates.2 points

It sounds like Hendriks wants to be here but typical Reinsdorf being cheap. I don’t think Hahn is doing anything wrong, he’s just stuck with an owner who isn’t interested in spending money or doing what it takes to win championships. I’m now expecting them to resign Colome, maybe add Quintana and that’s it. Very underwhelming and disappointing.2 points

Thank you poppy! Always a man of reason. Spending on a DH when Vaughn will be ready so soon is just silly. Give Yermin and Collins a chance. One of them could turn into a big time bat.2 points
-
Mercedes seems like such an obvious solution until Vaughn is ready...what's the point of having him if he can't fill in for a couple of weeks? If he proves up to the job we have an asset to use in trades with the NL should they approve the DH.2 points

Jack, you know this is wrong right? In a normal year the sox make the playoffs, they were actually hurt by the stupid new format where 2 teams from every division get in. They would be the second WC in a regular year. The central would have 3 playoff teams and the other two divisions 1 each.2 points

That's amazing. Cheesy beef just steals ideas from here and throws them all out there. Dudes a fraud. Not sure how he got any following. Come at me cheesy!2 points

I am just surprised that one Dan Bernstein anonymous report all of the sudden has people jumping off of bridges. I spent the entire season saying that spending wasn't going to be as high as most expected, but I did figure they would try to make some impact moves at the same time. I see no reason to think that they aren't going to spend on a closer and really want Hendriks to be it. Even Hahn who has had ample opportunities to say that they are done, has done anything but doing so.2 points

Lynn. 2 years 33 mil. Option for 3rd year @18 mil, with a 7 mil buyout. So it would be 40 mil guaranteed. I suspect he would bite on this offer give his age, weight, the uncertainty of the pandemic and his troubles getting a deal the last time he was as free agent. Because if he has a rough 2021, he will be right back there again. For Giolito - I'll go along with CWS's numbers.2 points
-
I think I am in the minority here, but I don't want to see a Lynn extension unless the the third year is an option. A huge benefit of Lynn is he is cheap, but a huge risk is that he is entering his age-34 season and has a relatively short track record of success. Only having one year of cheap obligation to Lynn mitigates that risk (financially, obviously its still a major competitive risk). I get that it stings to trade 6 years of control for 1, but I'd rather get 1 good year out of Lynn for cheap than 1 good, 1 mediocre, and 1 trash, and for more money too. Hard pass on owing 36 year old Lynn 10-15 million. That said, I hope this opinion ends up aging like the Abreu extension takes.2 points

I believe he has been told that some pitchers prefer throwing to McCann, but this assertion that the entire pitching staff is having all-out brawls in the clubhouse over not having to throw to Grandal just reads as some weird McCann fan-fiction2 points

I'm legit surprised we haven't heard more about Wainwright to fill that back end of the rotation spot.2 points

Because I have eyes. Dunning will not be a bust, barring injuries that could happen to anyone. At worst, he's a rock solid backend SP controlled for 6 years and dirt cheap for 3.2 points

2/35 for Lynn seems right, but I still think I would rather see him for a few months before extending him.2 points

Harold's takes on grandal crack me up. So, pitchers don't have to throw the pitches grandal calls; if that's the argument being made. Pitchers can shake off their catcher if they feel he's not on the same page. They can call their own game. And grandal steals strikes which is more valuable than the occasional bone headed play. If a pitcher doesn't realize that then that's on them. Hilarious to ask position players to be tougher all the while arguing to pamper pitchers.2 points
-
The league and it's history is littered with defensive specialist backup catchers. That same history doesn't point to a mutiny on a pitching staff. Pitchers have preferences, but they don't make or break a pitcher or it's staff.2 points

He seems pretty solid. It's surprising to me that he got nontendered when he was projected to make 5m. I know Hendriks is another another league, but maybe he won't be getting that 3y/40m he wants.2 points

Because they're grown men who are professional baseball players and keuchel "learned to win" on a team that cheated to win. His quote is absurd. Hes not their daddy and real leaders don't spout off about how they're teammates were losers before he got there. Id think it was a clown move as well, as would most guys who work their asses off to reach the pinnacle of their profession.2 points
