Surely the White Sox and Royals will finish the off-season ranked one and two which is what makes this such an informative tweet and not at all misleading.5 points

So we don’t want to give Hendrix 4 years because he might not be good 4 years from now when he is 35. But trading minor league and perhaps major league talent for Yu Darvish who is owed $59 million for his age 35,36, and 37 seasons seems like a good option. OK.4 points

This is the exact kind of deal I would like to see when I say the Sox have some room for some MiLB signings with major league dollars attached and an invite to spring training. Keeps the roster slots, but allows you to bring a potential arm to the deal.3 points

Sox did spend a lot of money last offseason in free agency and extensions. I’m still shocked at how it’s so hard for some to realize the lack of fans in 2020 and uncertainty going forward has altered their financial situation. They might not have lost money, but they sure as hell didn’t generate as much as they projected.3 points

Jackass may be too strong a term, but it's very insensitive, and it's also a false equivalency. Fried foods kill people the people who are eating them, they aren't killing people because the person eating them is coming into close contact with others and not wearing a mask.3 points

I don't want any lip about this, there's nothing to talk about right now. I mentioned a flyer on De Leon a while back. You may remember him, the Twins wanted more than him for that one second baseman I forget, and so the dodgers instead just traded him for that other second baseman I forget who was terrible. This was years back. Rays trade. Anyway he basically has been injured for four years. He got back to the Reds last year and pitched for a handful of innings, walking everyone. But there were some encouraging signs there in ye olde baseball savant website, as Cooper goes on to point out: Is he the solution to all lifes problems? no. But if I saw a "sox sign Jose De Leon to 1.5 Mill contract if he makes it out of ST will I be strangely pumped? You betcha, soxtalk.2 points

Maybe not the thread for this, but looking at future payroll commitments I can see why the Sox went cheap in RF and would be reluctant to trade any of their blue chip prospects in more “win now” moves. We’re going to need guys on pre-arb deals to offset the rising costs of our locked up core and my guess is they’re targeting RF to be one of those spots. Based on what we’ve heard / know, I think they will prioritize the following moves over the remainder of the offseason: Hendriks - 3/$39M Giolito extension - 5/$75M (if 5th year team option is exercised) Lynn extension - 2/$40M (covering the 2022 & 2023 seasons) Best available starter at $10M or less willing to take a one year deal (Quintana, Richards, Archer, etc) Left-handed bat on the cheap later the off-season (LaStella, Gonzalez, Miller, etc.) Oscar Colas - remaining international bonus pool With these moves, you’re looking at ~$150M in payroll commitments in 2022 and that’s assuming pre-arb guys in RF, the #5 spot in the rotation, and in the UT role. I think it’s likely they can go higher than that figure in 2022, but it will be hard to add a ton of long-term deals if you want to build in breathing room for escalating salaries. You’re likely looking at another stop-gap in RF if none of Adolfo, Rutherford, or Gonzalez don’t step up or if Colas doesn’t move faster than expected. Any remaining funds would go towards strengthening the bench and bullpen on short-term deals as needed. Circling back to Hendriks, I think adding him on a three year contract makes all the sense in the world if we’re unwilling to commit big dollars to a RF upgrade. Realistically, if you can extend Lynn and believe in Kopech, Cease, & Crochet, there simply won’t be that many holes that would require a sizable investment. Sign Hendriks, move every other guy down a spot, and create a bullpen that can be weapon come October. That’s where I think the front office is heading and I’m fully aligned with that strategy if Jerry won’t pony up for any A tier free agents that will require a ten figure commitment.2 points

Increase high school graduation, increase college and university attendance and graduation (including the trades), and improve job market participation and labour market outcomes. There's probably no better cure to radicalization than a decent education and solid employment. People with steady jobs, good education, and good family and friend support systems don't listen to OANN or throw bricks through a CVS window. Also, I don't think polarization is a strong enough term anymore to describe what's going on. Partisan politics mostly provides a good outlet for the combat of ideas leading to mediated outcomes. However, in America people seem to live in completely different realities, where they can't even agree on first principles.2 points

One more thing....never for one second did I believe Hahn regarding saving up cash for future use. It was just his way of trying to keep the fan base from melting down even more.2 points
-
what? Maybe Rick Hahn should go cheer for the Mets too: But his most relevant message was a promise that the financial flexibility created by the ongoing rebuilding process will not go to waste. "At the end of the day, we made what we felt was not only a very aggressive offer, a very compelling offer and one that helped balance and represent the risk and the upside for both sides. Didn’t work, which is obviously disappointing. But it does not change the fact that we are going to once again be in this market when the time is right and hopefully, at that time, convert. "The money will be spent. It might not be spent this offseason, but it will be spent at some point. This isn’t money sitting around waiting to just accumulate interest. It’s money trying to be deployed to put us in best position to win some championships." That quote was two years ago now. Let me know when all that money Hahn told us he saved in the rebuild is going to go to work as opposed to "sitting around... accumulating interest." If you don't like the White Sox being cheap, Go cheer for another team! Brilliants takes on Soxtalk. Maloney told us all to "wait and see" on Springer too before complaining lol. So when is it OK to complain exactly, Maloney?2 points

It's not misleading at all. Will Sox lead AL in offseason spending? Most likely not. But at this point, they've improved more than any team in the AL and whining about them constantly doesn't really make sense right now.2 points

10 biggest AAV pitching contracts all time: Gerrit Cole, $36 million Stephen Strasburg, $35 million Justin Verlander, $33 million Zack Greinke, $32.5 million David Price, $31 million Clayton Kershaw, $31 million Max Scherzer, $30 million Roger Clemens, $28 million Jacob deGrom, $27.5 million Jon Lester, $25.8 million That's a pretty good hit rate imo.2 points

Most likely no - the Negro Leagues didn't keep great stats on hand, especially while barnstorming. Josh Gibson is likely only going to get 113 home runs: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=gibson002jos2 points

I feel like you have to be either in or out at this point as a front office. Rick told us the window is now open on his last Zoom, and none of us even needed to be told that, we could see it with our own eyes. It's go time. Yes, the White Sox operate on a budget most of us don't always agree with. Yes, in 2024 a bunch of the Sox core will be expensive and should be right in the peak of their primes. Yes, Liam Hendricks will be 35 at that point and not a good bet to still be throwing at a high level. But the time to win is now. Right now, this season. And next season. And the season after that. I'm not going to say "Ah screw 4 years from now, you'll figure it out!" because that's not realistic and not how a business should be run. But we're talking about 12-14 million in 2024. If you're all in with this team, you really believe in this core and are confident with what you built...don't let the fear of an extra 14 million in 2024 slow this train down. I know there is a lot of uncertainly with COVID and fans in the future.....but if this all works the team is going to be surrounded by a tremendous amount of interest and added revenue that should more than cover Liam Hendricks in 2024.2 points

I know how they operate, and it's absolutely stupid. I'd much rather pay good players extra for declining years than pay different bad players each season for zero production. Their cost/benefit calculations are completely messed up and it's baffling.2 points

You keep saying that people excuse the owner for being cheap, when in reality they are just be realistic about how the Sox operate. Everybody wants Jerry to break the bank, but we know he won't.2 points

Trump and the Republicans keep trying to say the election was rigged by the Dems when the Republicans did the following: Purged voter rolls whenever they could Had so few polling places, voters had to endure long lines to vote Removed mail boxes and boxes for drop-off ballots in the middle of pandemic Trump supporters tried to run a Biden campaign bus off the road Sabotaged the Postal Service in an effort to stop mail-in voting Michigan electors needed a police escort when they traveled to vote for Biden Went through countless and needless lawsuits that had no merit whatsoever In general made registering to vote for difficult And in 2018, actually tried to rig a congressional election in North Carolina. The election had to be held again. Spoke of having "poll watchers" go to polling places to intimidate voters and election workers. Had a plan to kidnap and murder the Michigan governor All of this and Trump still lost by over 7 million. Maybe the country just didn't want him?2 points

It’s a significant amount of money for a 35 year old closer 4 years from now when a lot of the core players will be getting way more expensive. Just doesn’t seem like the best allocation of resources. Give me Yates and LaStella for the same cost of Hendriks this year.2 points

At the end of the day, if the 4th year 13 million is what is breaking the White Sox, consider this, if that extra year if the guy is done or is a bust is going to have that much of an effect on the roster, the sustained winning, multiple championships they have been selling, didn't go very well. Signing guys for extra years they may not be any good has been going on since JR owned the team. When the Sox signed Carlton Fisk, and of course the money was different then, but it was a $20 million franchise vs. $2 billion, he signed for 5 years $3 million. Roland Hemond told JR he figured Fisk had 3 or 4 productive seasons left. They signed him anyways.2 points

Just joined. Greetings to all!!! If $15m remains; Colome, 2 yr-$8m per; Daniel Murphy, 1 yr-$5m + opt; Kurt Suzuki, 1 yr-$2m + opt. Would have to rely on org to provide 4th & 5th starters but Murphy (DH) could fit nicely between Abreu & Jimenez or Jimenez & Robert pushing Eaton to eighth.1 point

This is absolutely hilarious. Not only do I never call people names, such as prick, but I dont get defensive and start attacking the poster. I either reiterate my point or expound on it. Its weird that offends you. I also have people like you aimlessly, and unprovoked, call me something like a prick without crying and retaliating towards you because uh its not that big of a deal?
