Should not be given labels like "draft pick" and "rookie". This seriously causes people to post less. What happened to "equality"? Do you seriously think people are less intelligent because they are new?5 points

Like... I get that it’s an outdated forum ranking based on posts... but honestly nobody gives a fuck or even pays attention to it. I’ve been here since 2006 registered in 07 and typically more lurking than posting. This is the first time I’ve ever seen it brought up. I remember when I was a rookie. I posted more over time and it went up. I eventually unlocked a higher rank but I honestly without looking couldn’t tell you what mine is currently. This is my favorite place to read other Sox fans opinions and I’m also active on Twitter and Reddit. This is Sox Home, everyone’s always been extremely welcoming.4 points

Its easy to say that now but at the time of signing, not one of these were bad in my opinion.4 points

I look at all sports as entertainment. I have been a White Sox fan since I was a kid. I like to look for info on my team. When politics came into the NFL I stopped watching. Last NBA season when politics became bigger than the game I stopped watching. I just watch college Basketball now. Look the only thing that Obama and I have in common is the White Sox. That’s Cool! So keep your politics and complaining to yourself. Look for a more positive way to support your team. Be Happy.4 points

You have zero idea what you are talking about. I have explained myself on this topic plenty and why it matters to me. The attempt to shoe horn in a whatabout into the end of it doesn't actually add anything to an argument.4 points

Ah, one of my favorite Internet personality types. Deciding what people are or aren’t sincere about for them and presenting it as fact. Can’t possibly let a opportunity to be cynical slip by. How ever would we know just how intelligent you are?3 points

I think Draft Pick is a bit too much after reading this post. It is more undrafted free agent quality.3 points

Depends how you weight career value vs peak. No one alive has seen a better pitcher on the White Sox than Chris Sale, but obviously Buehrle had a "better" career with the Sox.3 points

This is one of the most egotistical & delusional posts I have read in some time. I can only laugh that someone wrote these words and actually believes them. I hate to be the one to tell you this, but not everything is about you. I don’t want the La Russa commentary to go away, I just don’t want it in every single thread. Tony should continue to be held accountable for his shitty actions, but the board should also be free an admin getting to derail every thread with his non stop La Russa jabs. I know for a fact I’m not alone in feeling that way and all I’m asking is for us you to keep your TLR commentary in related threads. I don’t know why that’s such a hard ask, especially when the site owner specifically asked for as much. And lol at me being upset at your “protest”. Me saying that you were being single-minded in your efforts, putting your own moral compass above all other considerations, doesn’t mean I was angry about it. I even acknowledged your heart was in the right place, I simply didn’t agree with your approach which could of had consequences for innocent parties. Not everything is black & white and that was my argument. All that being said, not sure why I’m rehashing this since you actually believe your “protest” was somehow about saving lives...as if La Russa would magically stop driving drunk if not managing the Sox. You are clearly a smart guy, but you’ve completely lost your mind with this La Russa stuff.3 points
-
I never said the conversation should go away, just saying not every single thread should turn into a La Russa b****fest which is a direct request from the site owner. And the difference between all your examples and this particular case is it’s never been a mod / admin who has been guilty of such behavior. Who is policing you when you blatantly skirt the rules? Look, you can do whatever you want, but I greatly enjoy conversing on this board and I’m going to call out posters if they are bringing it down. And I don’t care if they are an admin or someone who has just recently signed up, no single person is bigger than the board and you ignoring feedback about your recent posting suggests that you feel otherwise.3 points

Look, I have no idea why THIS is the topic you have decided can't be talked about except in your own preapproved settings. We spent YEARS on Fire Ozzie, and years on Fire Robin, and YEARS on Fire Ricky, and YEARS on fire Kenny, not to mention Manny Machado (and the history we ALL know about there) being drug up in every single thread for a year, or Tatis Jr being brought up to this DAY. Jerry being a cheap owner has been brought up in thread after thread for literally the entire history of Soxtalk for 20 YEARS now. We have never DEMANDED that people stop talking about them. Sure there have been plenty of back and forths about what good it did, and what it meant to a thread, but ultimately, those things were discussed ad nasuem. Tony has been the manager of the team for a bit over a month. I don't know what it bothers you, but I hope you also realize by turning this into a multi-poster, 25 post back and forth about what is allowed to be be discussed about Tony you have made it WAY worse than just a passing comment. Ultimately it isn't going to go away, just like all of the rest of those topics that got drug back out at every single opportunity, and this has only just started.3 points
-
And of course it didn't go well. Jerry was never going to change his mind, but are I hope you are smart enough to know that was never the point. I also hope that you have the spine to stand up for what you believe in in your own life, even when cowards and stans tell you otherwise.3 points

Lance Lynn in 2019 was absolutely a “top half of any rotation” arm, but that was the first time in his career he has been that way. if you want evidence for that - how many number 2 starters sign 3 year, $30 million contracts? That’s “back of the rotation, number 4 or 5 starter, innings eater” money, which is probably what we’d have described Lynn as prior to 2019. So the question remains...did Lynn pull a Charlie Morton and find something that made him vastly better late in his career, or did he just have a serious career year that he will not replicate again? Last years peripherals look a lot like the other years of his career outside of 2019, but his ERA is low due to a low BABIP. Could he have kept up a top of the rotation season if it was a full year? If you got the Lynn from 2019 and paid Dunning for him, that’s an understandable trade. If you got the numbers from 2018, you wouldn’t be too happy.2 points

The only reason I can think of to nearly double the influence of a player's worst season in the last 3 is that you have an agenda to devalue that player. There's no other logical reason to do it. As I've stated many times on this and other threads, Dane Dunning projects by Steamer estimates to be worth 2.4 WAR in 2021. Steamer is very conservative in its projections, and this is with Steamer projecting 149 IP for Dunning. If he's able to increase his IP and maintain the performance level Steamer projects, he becomes a 3 WAR SP. If he can slightly improve his performance while also improving his IP, he becomes a 4 WAR SP. Given that he's entering his age 26 season, both of those outcomes are very attainable. Texas has 6 years of control on Dunning, so he could easily be worth 15-25 WAR for them. I wouldn't give up that kind of asset for a player with one year of control, but were I forced to, I'd want the player I was getting back to be a 5+ WAR player for that year. I don't see fan reactions as a good gauge of value, because part of that relies on how knowledgable the fan is and what they care about. I want the Sox to win in 2021, for example, but not at the cost of 2022-2025. That's why I'm critical of the move. Another fan who only cares about winning in 2021 might like the move, but it doesn't make my concern any less valid.2 points

Student loans are stifling the careers of young people which negatively impacts the economy. That is the crux of Senator Warren's argument concerning the impact of student loans. Maybe lower the interest rates on student loans to zero to allow young people to pay them off and put a cap on interest rates for credit cards....an interest rate that is not usurious, like 10% max. Lower the cap on borrowing if the credit card companies are worried about risk.. IMHO, wayy too much wealth is concentrated on the upper 5-10% in this country. I am not advocating Socialism but instead, some fundamental fairness. There are those who have no stocks , no health insurance, yet work like dogs to make ends meet. They are not our enemies, they are people we need to embrace rather than demonize and trample upon.2 points

Buerhle without a doubt. He gave us the statistics and the best moments. I remember watching Sportscenter and every play had the Buerhle-meter. He had his buzzed save in the World Series. The no hitter and perfect game giving us the Dewayne Wise catch. No contest.2 points

You have to understand that balta accused a poster of murdering people because the poster sat on a bench in a park. His risk calculations all lead to the same place.2 points

This is complete speculation so please take it as such: I've heard from people I trust that the Sox were very confident on Cespedes. Such as, "he's part of the plan", etc. It's quiet right now in general. He has no workout scheduled. There has also been an assumption that Colas is coming to the Sox. I don't think the team has the bonus pool space for both. Here's my theory: The Sox were going to sign Cespedes with their remaining cash in the 2020 class if it happened back in July. Then they would theoretically push Colas to July 2021. This makes the most sense to me. This probably isn't an option anymore because I doubt Oscar Colas wants to wait until January 2022. I'm not really sure what happens at this point.2 points

Also, if this turns into a Buehrle thread, I need to share one of my favorite articles ever: The Curious Case of Mark Buehrle It's essentially a breakdown of how Mark was able to defy every single bit of conventional wisdom when it came to pitching. These two paragraphs are a fun nugget.2 points

Nobody cares about your racist agenda. You want to bring up my bannings? last time i was banned it was LITERALLY because i said if i can not speak my mind, just ban me. And i was banned. Interesting. Hypocrisy at the greatest level. "All inclusive" though right?2 points

I disagree. He usually tells fanbases how they need to pay him more attention in social media and "step their game up" with the amount of attention and begging for him to come to their teams. He even complained about one of the fanbases that they went almost a whole day without courting him. I'm shocked at how many people still don't realize Bauer is a giant douchebag. My favorite is when he plays victim talking about being bullied as a kid, and so now he bullies others to inspire kids that get bullied that they too can one day have a big enough platform to become the bully and not the bullied. He sucks.2 points

Bmr didn't just sign up man. That is already covered. The crazy thing is that I really feel like this goes back to how upset you were that payroll could be cut if this protest was too successful instead of JR taking the right actions here, and I think you are still afraid of that, which is why you want to shut THIS conversation down so badly, after participating in the same actions with so many others of the same types of conversations over the years and not having ANY problems at all with doing exactly what you are so mad about now. And finally trust me, while this bothers you so much, we as a staff have had many of these types of conversations over who was posting what over the years, and if it should be different as staff. Just because the business wasn't made public, doesn't mean it didn't happen. I know you really want this to go away and are going to grasp at whatever straw you can find to try to do it, and that is fine. And the more personal you try to make it, the longer it will drag out.2 points

You don't care about the DUI. You dislike Tony because he had a different anthem opinion than you 4 years ago and because you think he's too old for the job. Did you also email all of Michael Phelps' sponsors when he got a DUI? Anyway, I'll end my contribution to derailing this thread and stop posting about Tony. Feel free to get the last word in, hero.2 points

Uh, no. It is relevant baseball talk. You aren't going to censor it just because you don't like it. If we haven’t censored any of the other stuff over the years, this won't be the first.2 points

Can you please stop polluting every thread with constant TLR whining? As an admin / mod, you of all people should be held to a higher standard and it’s starting to get ridiculous. Most of us are in agreement the hiring sucks, but at the very minimum let’s keep attacks against La Russa in relevant threads so the actual baseball discussion doesn’t have to suffer.2 points

Our biggest need IMO is another SP. I think we could potentially survive without another bat or any more bullpen additions, but we are without question a starter short at the moment and need a halfway decent one. I’m praying we sign one of Paxton, Richards, Quintana, or Kluber and don’t go totally cheap just because Kopech will be on the mix at some point. Too much can go wrong to not have six legit starters to start the season. After that, I’m prioritizing the bullpen over adding another bat. No doubt in my mind Hendriks should be the guy as he’s potentially a game changer who moves everyone down a spot and gives you what should be a lockdown pen come playoff time. If he gets too expensive, I’d like to see us pivot to someone like Yates who still has the potential to be an impact reliever. As for the offense, give me the best left-handed bat that can be had on the cheap. We don’t need to sign someone like Brantley who will require a eight figure salary and a multi-year commitment. LaStella or Miller are both attractive options to fill the role. A guy like Schwarber could work as well if we go with a more affordable reliever. Hell, I wouldn’t be opposed in bringing back Mazara if we’re really tight on money. Regardless, the bigger ticket items should be for the pitching staff and not the offense. And I will be in the minority here, but I want to give Collins a look in the backup catcher role. It’s a risk no doubt, but I don’t think he’s been as bad behind the plate as people make him out to be. I would definitely sign a more proven AAAA type catcher to sit in Charlotte just in case, but I expect Grandal to handle 75% of the starts next year and feel that Zack can handle the rest.2 points
