I wish the goal was to get as good as possible, not just to hopefully be better than 4 small market teams.8 points

Then I'm in good company here, I guess. *Shrugs* Again, singling out one person on a forum for arguing is bizarre.4 points

Yeah thanks for the history lesson. I’m aware that forearm soreness is a precursor to Tommy John in most cases. Crochet never actually had an elbow injury though.4 points

The fact that all of that is true, yet you keep getting singled out should be a sign.3 points

No, you take the napalm approach of arguing with everyone, getting called out on it by multiple members, and thinking everyone else is the problem.3 points

Just played a game of “do I like Sonny Gray” and the answer is yes but thank god if we acquire him he’s not working with Cooper.3 points

Why are you constantly arguing? Every single thread you find the need to correct someone. Who died and made you the logic police? You are an anonymous person on a message board, please get a grip. The original commenter simply said that spending the remaining resources on 2 bullpen pieces would be overkill. It makes perfect sense.3 points

I think his main objection, which most and maybe all of us share is we are sacrificing the future for the present, when we could and should be able to have both.3 points

I’m not defending the logic, but all these guys are likely to be materially better than Quintana next year & beyond. As for Lynn, who cares if he’s fat when he’s a damn good pitcher who’s proven he can pitch at that weight?3 points

So the Padres get Two aces in Darvish and Snell and we'd get an old guy with 1 year in Lynn and an injured/mediocre Gray. Cool. Woodruff would be A+ tho.3 points

Tony LaRussa and his friend in a bar Tony LaRussa and his friend are hours into their night when Tony pukes on himself. "Oh man," Tony slurs, "my wife is going to kill me, I'm drunk, I'm late, and now I've puked on my shirt." "No, no, no." His buddy replies. "Here, give me $20." Tony is confused, but hands over the twenty. His friend takes it and stuffs it in Tony's shirt pocket. "There." Tony's friend says, "Now when you get home, tell your wife some rich guy puked on you and gave you $20 for your shirt." The drunks, now proud of this idea, keep drinking. When Tony gets home, his wife is up waiting for him, visibly angry. "Look at you", she sneers, "you're late, you're drunk, and you've thrown up on yourself." "No, no, no," Tony says, waving her off, "Some rich guy puked on me and gave me $20 for my shirt!" Tony takes the money out of his pocket and hands it to her. "You idiot," she says, " there's $40 here." Tony replies, "Yeah he shit in my pants as well!"2 points

Colome got the job done the last few years, and that is because he’s mastered a craft, one that is not driven by crazy talent. I am worried, will he have to re-master his craft when his stuff begins regressing more over the next few years. It’s possible he could get even smarter with his pitch selection and when/how to use his cutter. I’d just rather not bank on that. Give me the guy who misses more bats and puts less runners on base. I am also a big fan of high energy, dominating closers. I feel like it just brings something extra to the team. I also think the guys playing behind Hendriks will be more confident and comfortable during the 9th inning. If we end up with Colome, I won’t be like upset especially if it’s cheap, and because we have in house options. I just think it’s time to go in a different direction. As far as overpaying for Hendriks, I do understand it’s not our money, but it does dictates what other moves we make, including unloading prospects. I also don’t want them “running out of money.“ If they did have 25mil to spend and I had confidence they would spend it wisely to fill multiple holes, I’d be more against spending a lot on Hendriks. But I do not trust them to make those moves with the extra money, so when they are heavily rumored to finally spend big money, and the player they are spending on is elite, I fucking want this move to happen so badly. We are spending a lot of money on an elite player! Both are things we should be celebrating. I understand the money could potentially be used to get more value at another position, could be used more efficiently to fill multiple holes, etc., but they realistically could also not spend it all, or spend it on a bunch of garbage who don’t add up to Hendriks as a whole. Spend money on the elite player who will make the White Sox a better team. I’d rather deal with the consequences of this signing this offseason. I’m sure they will be able to grab a couple more guys anyways. And I’m writing this with an understanding that at times, this contract won’t be great over whole 4 years, but it’s not a contract that will cripple this team. There might even be decent opportunity to trade him depending on the situation over his contract.2 points

https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dylan-cease/18525/stats?position=P Cease sucks at baseball right now. He may be good someday, but the window is open now. His BB/9IP, K/9IP, & HR/9IP all say that he sucks. He & Kopech should go fuck off in Charlotte, & find the strike zone. If they can find the strike zone later in 2021, they can rejoin the roster. But counting on a fucking walkathon like Cease to start the season is stoopid.2 points

And the Arenado stuff was some random MLB Intel pop-up account that was so off base that even the official White Sox account started trolling it2 points

When it’s not wrong (and that wasn’t wrong) and you flood the discussion with lengthy, unending arguments to the point that mods have to scold you, I think enough is enough. Say you don’t agree, allow the person to respond and move on.2 points

Maybe but the Sox won't get him if it does. Sox aren't trading Kopech, Vaughn or Crochet2 points

So let's get this straight: Instead of just signing a controllable SP like Q for JUST MONEY, they're going to trade MORE assets away for a controllable SP, after having traded away assets for a fat 34 year old rental. Do I have this correct? If so, it would appear that they're royally fucking up this offseason.2 points

Dodgers are still better. They also aren't done and only have $100 million committed for 2022 They aren't the same though. Their system is much better and deeper. They get extra draft picks. They have an owner that cares about winning who lets his GM spend internationally and draft prep players every year. It must be nice.2 points

Who in the AL has a better roster than the White Sox today? I'd argue nobody at the moment. Of course you want to be as good as possible. The goal is to win the damn division every year though. That gets you in the tournament and gives you a shot to win it all. Why do we care so much about the 2nd best team in the NL West? It's nauseating.2 points

That scares me. Sonny Gray has been really good the last couple of years, but I think Cease is not a guy to give up on right now. There is a chance he can give you what Gray gives you for a fraction of the price and for many more seasons. The Sox need to get him with a fairly normal off season and spring training, and see what the new coach can do for him. I know his k rate dropping alarmed some, but he still has his stuff. I do think if they traded for a back up catcher, Collins would probably be part of what was going the other way as well.2 points
-
Yes. Being Grandal’s back up probably isn’t all that attractive to a free agent. Chances are you aren’t going to get a lot of starts. I still think they should have traded McCann before last season. Maybe you wouldn’t have got much, but you would have had a better idea about Collins. And it wasn’t as if McCann was going to be the difference of being in a WS or not. I don’t think they will do much more than sign a guy to a minor league deal like the Marlins did with Sandy Leon. They should be able to tell if Collins defense will be enough in spring training, and if not, they will be able to get someone who can call a game and frame for a minor leaguer we will never hear about again.2 points

Because they are the other team that is in a very similar position to us and we can compare how each teams moves match up and so far the Padres have always been a number of steps a head of the White Sox. It's frustrating watching our office vs theirs.1 point

I really hope that the Sox don't emulate the Padres in trading for starting pitchers. But if they go down this road, it appears that the window will shrink from the 5-10 year frame to a window that fits LaRussa. Gray's a good pitcher, but an ace he is not. Trading away young pitching creates more trading away of young pitching, as you have traded away in house options to fill holes. It's a bad cycle. Resist!1 point

I think trading Kopech or Vaughn is a non-starter and that's what it'd take1 point
-
I have a hard time believing there has been any real discussions for Woodruff. But if Sox can get him it would be incredible. and re trades vs depth, I have a lot more confidence Jerry will open wallets to re-sign players than sign in new ones of this caliber. And this will be unpopular but I would rather have Musgrove than Gray1 point

Thirteen different players named in the first few posts. That's a "likeable" team when half the team is worthy of that consideration.1 point

I'm being picky, if I had preference, would want a righty. Figure Grandal would get his rests mostly against lefties with our potent righty lineup.1 point

This is a good assessment. The simple fact is that the Bears don't belong on the same field as the Packers, and they are not truly a playoff team. It will be a huge surprise if the Bears find some kind of way to beat Rodgers next week. They can only hope he will be bored with the game, but that isn't likely. If the Bears make the playoffs, it will be as an 8-8 team. That is not all that great.1 point
