I ain't falling for tax differences again. Brought up every year and it never seems to matter in the end.7 points

I see Soxtalk is Soxtalking. Madrigal has played a grand total of 29 games and has had 109 plate appearances at the major league level...and we're writing him off as garbage because he made a few rookie mistakes. He batted .340 in those 109 plate appearances and played a pretty good second base. Maybe we give him a full season before deciding he's trash.6 points

I don't care what artificial constraints need to be put in place...but baseball has to get a better offseason. It gets worse every year.6 points

I know a lot of you dislike Hahn, but he can't be dumb enough to make a burner account with his own initials as the username5 points

He his .341 his rookie year, provided the equivalent of 2 WAR offense and 1 WAR defense (30 games x 5) at 23. Why are Nellie Fox comps not still in order? Why is it hyperventilating to be excited about a player that is exactly the kind of player that this team needs? When half the board wants to trade him for a bucket of balls. The idea that we can "easily" upgrade him is curious...FG's suggests 2B is one of the weakest positions in baseball. You know how many 2B in 2019 had a WAR better than 3? 8 in all of baseball. We need to give this kid as much patience as we do with all the other budding stars on the team.4 points

Ok listen here buddy, why don’t you login in to twitter and ask him who he really is instead of making false accusations.4 points
-
Certainly not putting any stock in this tweet, but I’d like to make fun of the logic nonetheless. If you think there is an option that is “just as capable” AND “less expensive,” why on earth are you trying for the more expensive option in the first place?4 points

I honestly don’t think spring training gets delayed. The owners want to because they don’t want to pay players salaries without fans. They really have no leg to stand on. Unless the federal government or local governments in Arizona and Florida don’t allow spring training, it’ll start on time. Evan Drellich of The Athletic just wrote about it. All this means is, big league guys, NRI and AAA guys will be at ST. AA and under comes in after they depart and season starts late and runs into October. Small town USA will absolutely have fans in the stands. None of these businesses will survive otherwise.3 points

I'm fairly certain that Soxtalk has half a dozen very active trolls that hate everything and everybody related to the White Sox and just post nonsense in every thread to irritate the rest of us. It's SO idiotic to draw conclusions about a 23 year old rookie in his first 29 games in the MLB....especially when countering all the people that watched every game he played in college and the minors and predicted he would be a great fielder and baserunner. While I may be overly optimistic about Madrigal...if he is Eckstein 2.0...well he averaged 3.2 WAR per season his first 5 years in baseball and he didn't get started until 26. I'm ok with Madrigal at league minimum providing us a 3 WAR per year through our window.3 points

Oh man, you must really hate this team to be rooting against its players.3 points

No shit. Kid is the dumbest "smart player" I ever saw. Guess they just give that label to you if you're 5-7" and on the "freedom fighter" color tone scale.3 points

I grew up watching professional wrestling, and I remember during Andre The Giant's heel turn he was wrestling The Junkyard Dog in France. Andre won by pinning the Junkyard Dog, using the ropes for additional leverage (as if he needed it). The audience politely chastised Andre The Giant by wagging their finger in a "that's naughty" fashion. Right now, Trump and his followers are Andre The Giant, and the Democrats are the polite French audience. When is someone going to be held responsible for their actions? They just seated the new Representatives, including quite a few that signed on to the ridiculous lawsuit Texas brought against other states. They weren't held responsible. They weren't called out. Tomorrow is going to be a shitshow that won't change anything, but there are at least 10 senators that will refuse to certify the election. And after the inauguration, they'll still be in the senate, working to derail everything Biden will try to do. Trump is going to refuse to leave the White House. The secret service has a plan that unfortunately does not include dragging him out of the building. They're going to close the building and not let anyone in and begin shutting off utilities. Chances are, Trump and his cronies will inflict physical damage in the White House. And again, the Democrats will be the parent in the mall ignoring their screaming child who is throwing a tantrum because they can't have a pretzel. It's just frustrating, because in a civilian job, Trump and his followers would be fired and possibly charged with crimes. And we're just watching, waiting for him to go away.3 points

Thanks! Ive been reading for a long time, but decided to create an account as this probably the most active and informed message board for any team I have seen. Like my name suggests, I'm a cubs fan but I got addicted to the rebuild process. I remember watching minor league box scores every night for Soler, Eloy, Cease, Gleybar, Russell, Baez, Bryant, and got to see it all come to fruition in 2016. Seeing what the Sox have done has been a ton of fun for me as a distraction from the Cubs obliterating their championship window. I think Hahn is one of the best GMs in the game and love watching guys like TA, Eloy, and Robert play ball, This team is so much more likable than they were in the Drake Laroache era.3 points

Nick Madrigal discussions have become insufferable on Soxtalk. I don't know why I read them anymore.2 points
-
Madrigal managed to be -4.7 runs below average on the bases. That's in 30 games. For comparison Kong's worst years were usually around -6 to 9 (nice) in 3x the playing time. That's some impressively bad base running by Nick.2 points

It is getting stranger and stranger. Suddenly, elections don't mean anything. Sometimes, I just think the Republicans are fully realizing that they are the minority party and they will take power whenever they can regardless of it is legitimate or not. The GOP always portrayed themselves as the flag-waving patriots. Now, it seems like they forgot what democracy is all about.2 points

Yep I explicitly state I’m rooting against him. Meanwhile you’re a ball of sunshine regarding this organization.2 points

Merkin couldn’t ask him what his new uniform number will be and include that in the article? Come on, Merk. Seriously though, still a fan of Madrigal and I think if he plays 150+ games this year, he’ll win over a lot of people that are obsessed with exit velocity. He’s going to be a great 9-hole hitter on a good team.2 points

You mean for our whitesox, they would be crazy to trade him, so he won't hit many home runs, who cares, he hits, he fields and he can run and he knows how to play the game.2 points

There's patience, and then there's multiple superstar FA's signing after spring training starts. It's a bit ridiculous. I'd be more forgiving given the circumstances this year if there wasn't a past of this happening, even if last year there was a bit more activity earlier. And don't get started on the owners trying to squeeze every last penny out of the players and crying poor citing no fans in the stands. The NHL is able to move forward with their season and they rely on the gate more than any of the big four teams.2 points

What journey is there right now? A bunch of people arguing about whether food accounts are real or not. Is that the journey we're enjoying? To me it's boring as all hell. People in general would be more understanding if it was just this offseason but this is the way every baseball offseason goes now.2 points

NBA offseason >>> MLB A typical NBA offseason: Draft --> Free Agency (with high initial activity) --> Summer League --> Training Camp Throw in the Olympics/FIBA, and there's actual basketball content going on all summer. Baseball can't compare. Instead our premiere offseason events are the Arizona Fall League, which sucks to watch compared to the Summer League, and bunch of team executives and agents meeting at a hotel for a week, where stuff may or may not happen.2 points

Eaton haha - he's all the characteristics I like in my players - the competitiveness, grit, etc. -- really the whole reason i chose anderson, madrigal, etc. -- except he's a dick about it & to his teammates. Now obviously we don't know enough about it, but i think there's enough smoke in his interactions over the years to draw at least some conclusions. Outside of that? Can't really think of anybody. I'll say anybody who's a dick to their family would be near the top of my list. I used to see these guys out at the bar back in the day and I'll say Paulie was awesome ... some of the other guys? I'd be surprised if they're still married. Lost a lot of respect for a bunch of those guys. But at the end of the day there's a bunch of shitty things going on and I just wanna see good ball. So as long as your respectful and try hard I like the guys.2 points

Look, I’m going to admit that I am a big believer in Al’s and Portillo’s. There is a long list of things that they had first. I will spare you listing them all but Al’s never promised a Hendriks signing. Al had a tweet yesterday that I agree with. He said that there are things that he has posted first (for example Hendriks is the Sox #1 priority) then the next day Nightengale tweets it and weeks later people accuse Al‘s of stealing from Nightengale. He said Hendriks and his agent left MVP. I’ve looked and it’s listed nowhere. Weeks later people confirm this. I don’t think Maloney should get the hate he gets for posting this stuff. Portillos has been posting for well over a year without a following. This isn’t your typical fake account stuff. Also, Al’s is followed by and interacts with a bunch of real reporters. Plus think of it this way, without Maloney posting these accounts, this board would be dead this offseason.2 points

I'm not trying to settle anything. I'm just witnessing yet another off-season where someone grabs onto a suspect group of Twitter handles and acts as if they have the mole in the front office. Every fuckin year we have the same bullshit, and then we have people like you who are like "well this account has never been wrong in the 4 months they have existed" just waiting for Hendriks to sign with the Blue Jays and those accounts to state they knew the Sox were out all along2 points
-
Yep and if Sox fans are bored, can you imagine a fan base like the Brewers that haven’t done a single thing?2 points

Never cared for him. Heard a few of his interviews on the score this past year and sounded like a tool. When asked about White Sox this past year on the SCORE he kind of huh humed their success. Hope he enjoys calling games for 70 win teams for next 10 years!!2 points

The whole benefit of having a cost-controlled core of homegrown prospects and a great farm below them is that you have the financial and prospect capital to add star players while other teams are tapped out. I don't mind the Sox waiting until June or July to assess how close this team is before they push in chips more significant than Dane Dunning, but at some point you have to make some tough choices. Players don't always devleop in a straight line. Jason Heyward had a 6 WAR year at 20 and a 1 WAR year at 26. Addsion Russell was a 3.2 WAR player at 22 and is now batting .254 for the Kiwoom Heroes at 26. Between injuries or just natural regression you never know how long your window will be. If the Sox get out to a hot start and they can trade guys with a 2023 or 2024 ETA like Kelley, Thompson, or Bailey for an elite starter or even a rental like Kris Bryant if he gets back to form I would support it.2 points

Just enjoy the Food Guys. They've been ahead of the media on some things but there is also no need to see them as a pied piper either. It's not going to leave you embarrassed if you followed it and they end up not batting 1.000 Just tidbits to share and is good discussion source either way on how to shape the team2 points
