If he has one project this year it should be Cease. The analytics show that he has PLUS stuff but cant generate swings and misses. His awful swing/miss and chase peripherals remind me of 2018 Gio which makes Cease such a break out candidate IMO. Cease's O-Swing% (Swings on pitches outside the zone) was 26% (8th lowest among 81 pitchers with 50IP) and his swing and miss % was 9% (18th worst). He also had a first pitch strike percentage of 54% (7th worst). In 2018 Giolito's O-Swing% was 24%, his Swing and Miss % was 8%, and his first pitch strike % was 55% . In 2019 that went to 32%, 15%, and 62% respectively. Jake Arrieta, another guy who had a rough MLB start but had plus stuff had similar changes in those percentages. Both made minor adjustments on mound positioning and increased first pitch strike % significantly. Having plus stuff doesnt mean shit if youre behind in the count. His swing % was 41% which was sixth lowest which makes sense he started as many counts 1-0 as nearly any pitcher in the league.7 points

Fuck that spineless prick. His enabling of the President was what got us here.6 points

Its hollow. He had years to do the right thing. The only reason he has changed his stripes is the ship has sunk and he is looking for a life vest.5 points

Some people have said they were glad that they got an extra 100 dollars a month from the trump tax cut but they are really not for handing out 2000 to people because they really don't need it5 points

Meaningless. He’s a coward with no morals and no backbone. That goes for pretty much the entire Republican Party. These speeches don’t mean a fucking thing when you haven’t done a thing to stop this for 4 years and in fact enabled it. Fuck these people4 points

Weird, that wasn't the Capitol in DC, where an active session of joint Congress was taking place confirming the peaceful transfer of power. Keep whatabouting tho.4 points

Just so someone says this...if Tim Anderson or Luis Robert came up and made dumb baserunning plays, or misplayed a ball in the outfield I wouldn't really be that mad or be surprised. Rookies are supposed to make dumb baserunning plays, but you're ok with that because they learn from them and in the meanwhile they're hitting 30 home runs or whatever they're doing in year 1, or at least they turn into an MVP candidate in a couple years and that's the payoff for working through the struggles. The problem with Madrigal is...he has one strong tool, making contact with the baseball, but little power. That means, if he comes up and struggles on defense because he's a rookie, struggles with baserunning with a rookie, his value overall is pretty limited. If he was a 9th round pick, made it to the big leagues, and that was his profile, again I wouldn't be mad. But this is a number 4 overall pick. We knew he didn't have power, we knew his hit tool was strong. That doesn't profile to a number 4 pick...without the defense, baserunning, and frankly - not having to make the excuse that "he's a rookie". The reason he has the extra focus is that a player with a strong hit tool, but who doesn't steal bases, needs Marcus Semien level work to become a good defender, has no power, and makes plenty of mental mistakes his first few years that hurt his team - that is a 9th round pick, not a #4 overall pick. He was coming out of a College World Series level program. He was supposed to be baseball smart - not just because he's a short white guy, but because if the team has to wait years for him to learn how to make those basic decisions, there's no way on Earth you should have drafted him that high. It's not like there was no chance to see video on him or scout him. If he can't be a solid baserunner right now, or a solid defender right now, if he's making those mental mistakes right now, then this team really should trade him now, because a team that is a couple years away will be a better place for him to work through those problems.4 points

And of course, the problem is me posting the video they shared online...not the police officer taking a photo in the middle of the Capitol with a member of the mob and doing so on video.3 points

What about the police that enabled the attack on democracy? This could have been nipped in the bud but it wasn't, and that was a deliberate choice. There's no way in hell what happened today is possible without the cooperation of Police. None. If the Police were doing their jobs, then nobody ever gets in the capitol.3 points

There's no reason for them to be outnumbered like that unless they were complicit and used it as a built in excuse. Police do not protect us from fascists. They ARE the fascists. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2021/01/06/us-capitol-attack-compared-response-black-lives-matter-protests/6570528002/3 points

I am beginning to think there are no honorable people left in the Trump Administration. There certainly seems to be no honor among Republican congressmen and senators. A long time ago GOP leadership should have pulled the reins in on Trump. Instead they encouraged and enabled him. They're still doing it even after this. What pisses me off is that this election wasn't stolen. All of this is for nothing. Several times I have visited D.C. I have enjoyed sitting in the House and Senate gallery. I have seen legislation passed. I was in the House gallery when the first President Bush sent in a presidential veto. I have visited my congressman and one of my senators. That is one great thing about this country. Our government was open to us. I saw on TV once when an Iowan was talking to Senator Grassley at a town hall and the senator actually listened. Now we have this shit. How open can our government be now when the thugs have pulled this shit? You Trump lovers can stick up you fascist ass.3 points

Where’s the full battle armor, batons, pepper spray and tear gas they’re so quick to use on BLM and g8 protestors?3 points

This event is a pure example of white privilege. BLM people would be shot at by now - and you all know it.3 points

Madrigal was pick 4. Vaughn 3. Both will be getting rings as everyday players with the Sox. Enjoy the show.3 points

Looking at the voting trends, Trump and the GOP really fucked themselves. Democrats outperformed everywhere they needed to. Ossoff lost by 88k votes in November. He's probably going to win by 50k when all the votes are counted. A 130k vote shift in 2 months is almost unheard of in US politics.3 points

Wow, really? Comparing people to cars is so laughable. Nick is a human being, not a fucking car (and even products, like cars, can be flawed or faulty out of the gate anyway). He was a rookie, who had a lot of hype on him, who probably still has jitters, who made some mistakes while hitting .340 in his first year. Yet what part is everyone focusing on? Why is Soxtalk so ignorant on this subject? This is just a basic concept of life, not even actually related to baseball. As if Nick can't improve? Christ almighty.2 points

I traded the House and Senate in 2010 for ending an economic collapse and signing the Affordable Care Act. I would make that trade again 10 times out of 10 (note - after losing my job this year I temporarily had to move to an Affordable Care Act plan, and would have been uninsurable had the ACA been overturned).2 points

He's also limited defensively, on the base paths, athletically and physically with zero remaining projection. It's just a very limited and average profile and if another teams wants to overvalue bleeders, dribblers and gernades I'm all for it.2 points

Not only David Robertson, let's not forget about the GOAT SCOTT LINEBRINK2 points

John Greenberg this morning: A source indicates the Sox have made free-agent closer and reigning Mariano Rivera award-winner Liam Hendriks their top target in free agency. There are other bidders in on Hendriks, and another team aggressively meeting his ask could take him away. But the Sox have shown they will shop at the top of the relief market in the past, giving David Robertson a four-year commitment in December 2014, amid another offseason when they were trying to spread their budget across multiple needs. Some sort of impact addition to their late-inning mix seems likely. Al’s Cheesy Beef a month ago:2 points

I don't. All he has to do is get Cease to solid #4 performance and manage the BP well. If he does his 2021 will be a success in my eyes. That's not too much to ask at all when Cease has the stuff and MLB experience. We also have a skilled BP.2 points

There is never any grey area, with almost all topics. There is a large group that has absolutely made up their minds about Nick after 29 games and it will take a gargantuan effort for him to change the minds of those people. I 1000% disagree with that line of thinking, but such is life.2 points

I see Soxtalk is Soxtalking. Madrigal has played a grand total of 29 games and has had 109 plate appearances at the major league level...and we're writing him off as garbage because he made a few rookie mistakes. He batted .340 in those 109 plate appearances and played a pretty good second base. Maybe we give him a full season before deciding he's trash.2 points
