In his first 29 career games last year Madrigal hit .340, and here we have a 6 page thread with people complaining about him. So bizarre.7 points

For sure, because people are born as a specific race just as they're born as police officers. Totally comparable7 points

Nice try Ms. Luba. You won't be winning over Soxtalk. We're team cheesy beef.6 points

The Codify stuff is real. Hendriks loves the company and attributes much of his success to them. Not sure how much the White Sox want it out there but they're probably the most Codify friendly team in the sport currently. Yasmani Grandal and Lucas Giolito love it. Keuchel uses it now too and McCann will likely turn the Mets onto it. It's a big deal to Hendriks. Hopefully it helps.5 points

To clarify because I'm not sure if the sarcasm will come across, the Blue Lives Matter folks love to pretend that police officers are some marginalized group, while ignoring that, unlike actual marginalized groups, they typically have the option to leave their group (i.e. get a different job, retire, etc). Even if you want to argue that the status of their group is irrelevant, I'm not sure how one can call police officers marginalized when they consistently receive little or no punishment for murder. If anything, they're usually above the law. Trying to equate criticism of them to racism (or insert prejudice here) is a great way of demonstrating that you've never thought critically about a race-related issue4 points

I have a hard time understanding this board at times. We want to trade our B and C level pieces for solid starting MLB pitchers. Plesac had a 10/1 K/BB ratio last year and is doing this at the MLB level, not AA. The Sox payroll in 2022 if we do nothing but get Hendriks this year is going to around $165 million next year and about $180 million by 2023 assuming they get a Gio extension done. If we want pitching that doesn't cost $25 million per year, we have to go the trade route. Jerry isn't going to $190-$200 million. Let's say Cishek is right about the price. You sign LaStella for 2/14 to replace Madrigal. You still have a bullpen with 6 solid relievers and 4 starters that all averaged over 6 innings per start. You have Cease and Kopech for #5 starter. If they both work out you have pieces to trade for bats. Otherwise, if you don't want to trade anyone in your top 6-7, would you rather spend on Hendriks and Hand, have 3 good SP, and do 5 innings and bullpen two out of every 5 starts? I think both work, but you just have to make a decision (well Rick and Jerry do) on what works for them, but this pipe dream that you are getting Plesac with 5 years of control for pennies on the dollar is laughable at best. Personally I consider that deal knowing that the $7 million on LaStella and whatever you spend on one more reliever to replace Heuer is going to be less than you would spend on the open market for a FA SP in his 30's on the downside of his career. I could be nuts. Wouldn't be the first time, but it makes sense to me. Let the beatdown of my ideas begin:)3 points

Right, so it's a race issue. They were protesting racially-motivated police shootings, in case you weren't aware. If you think that's akin to people attempting to overthrow the government because their preferred candidate lost an election, everything I said applies3 points

And of course, the problem is me posting the video they shared online...not the police officer taking a photo in the middle of the Capitol with a member of the mob and doing so on video.3 points

This made me chuckle. But seriously, the comment and thought process is very sexist. God forbid somebody have fun with being a free agency and bring some entertainment to baseball free agency. I know baseball does such a good job of promoting it on their own.2 points

This is literally her calling out the White Sox to make an offer. Now is the time boys! 2/70 million. Get it done!2 points

He absolutely has the budget. The POS is paying otto porter 28 million to come off the bench. F JR if they don't sign one of Bauer or Hendriks2 points

How is it wasteful? We already have a good staff and offense. It would be like putting new rims on a Mercedes. Don't need to, but still nice.2 points
-
Hahn spending to add Hendriks to this pitching staff would be like a guy who can barely pay his credit card debt adding rims to a Toyota Camry. It's wasteful, unnecessary, stupid, and the end result really isn't all that impressive anyway.2 points

I wouldn't even say that. 4th overall picks 08 to 17 (newer ones can't be judged yet) 17: Brendan mckay 16:riley pint 15: dillon tate 14: schwarber 13: kohl stewart 12: kevin gausman 11: dylan bundi 10: christian colon 09: tony sanchez 08: Brian matusz Would you take anyone of them? The kelenic comparison is unfair because kelenic is 29 picks -i.e the field and could have been just as well been Kyle skipworth (google him). If madrigal turns out to be a 2 war guy he is way above average fo the 4th pick of the last decade plus you have to consider that madrigal at the time wasn't seen as a 3 homer guy put people thought he could become a 15 homer guy an hit 300 with 15 bombs like pedroia so there was upside (maybe still is?).2 points
-
And this here is the problem. Some of you guys can’t stop thinking about his draft position when debating his go-forward value to the Sox. I too wish we took Kelenic over Madrigal, but the pick is a sunk cost at this point and that doesn’t have any merit on whether Nick can be a good player or not. If we’re debating whether Hostetler was good at drafting, by all means bring up selecting Madrigal with the #4 pick. Otherwise, that factor is completely meaningless to these discussions.2 points

Don't worry, Democratic leadership is already rolling over and moving on. As we learned from all of the criminal actions of the Nixon, Reagan, HW, and W administrations, if you simply turn a blind eye to it, it'll go away! Definitely won't continually escalate. It's a complete failure of our institutions that Trump is still President today.2 points

Mike Trout was drafted in the #25 slot. The draft is a crapshoot. If you select a player who ends up with a decent major league career...you win.2 points

One of the reasons it’s important to act quickly when everyone agrees something terrible happened is the more time passes after the event, the more stories are created for those who want to be sympathetic to latch onto to promote that it wasn’t that bad and was nobodies fault. Sean Davis, editor of the federalist, is now pushing that the mob thought they were allowed into the capitol and didn’t understand why police were trying to stop them. It was all a big misunderstanding! Dont believe that? Well it was also Antifa dressed as MAGA2 points

Many have been saying that we need to have a dialogue with Trump supporters to understand what they think and want. What kind of dialogue can we have now? And you Trumpies: How would you like it if a mob stormed the White House to terrorize Trump, his family, and his staff? Would that make America great again? We have a god damned thug in power, and we shouldn't have to wait 13 days to rid the country of him. He should be prosecuted as soon as possible.2 points

Apparently Rudy Giuliani called Tommy Tuberville yesterday to tell him to slow the process down and object to as many as 10 states, so they can buy Thump some time. Turns out Rudy left a message on the wrong senators phone and he is becoming an internet sensation.2 points

I’ve said this on here before, but I had a really hard time watching him pitch last year. Before the season started, he was one of the players I was most looking forward to seeing progress. I love watching pitchers with good stuff. Even through the developmental stages when they kind of suck, I still enjoy eventually seeing that perfectly spun curveball that gives you so much hope and excrement. Cease was the opposite of that last season. I can’t remember having any positive thoughts because his control was so bad, his stuff was non-existent. How can we be excited about a curveball that starts two feet out of the zone and ends up getting blocked by the catcher’s body. No major league hitter is going to swing at a ball that’s already 20 inches outside the zone and spinning like crazy. And from the guy who has already thrown 70 pitches to get through 2.1 innings. They also are not going to swing at your fastball out of the zone when they know nothing makes it back in the zone. I’m surprised he didn’t get hit a lot harder when he was in the zone with his straight fastball. He clearly had a ton of luck last season to keep a 4 ERA. I think my point was that if Katz can figure out how to make Cease throw strikes, he will be extremely good. Katz also needs to work with Cease on how to use his pitches in tandem. I want to be more confident in Cease but I don’t know if he will ever be able to keep his control consistently. And no, that won’t really play in the bullpen either. That would be a terrible waste of guy with stuff (somewhat) similar to Glasnow. That’s the most frustrating part, when he has a hitter in a rare two strike count, he doesn’t even need to start it in the zone, he can keep in there. Guys will swing through his stuff, especially behind in the count if he puts it near the plate. Learning to use his fastball in tandem with his breaking pitches will huge, but that only works when you locate the pitches anywhere near his target. I do sometimes forgot how good this team would be next year and beyond if Cease blossomed into a #2 Thats all I have to say about that.2 points
