https://theathletic.com/2309736/2021/01/08/new-white-sox-pitching-coach-ethan-katz-is-in-constant-contact-with-his-starters/?source=emp_shared_article We have had good discussion on the Crochet part, but thought some would like to get some info on what was said on the rest of the pitchers on the staff: Cease - Katz has been working with Cease to eliminate the cutting action on his fastball that was causing decreased command and ineffectiveness. Katz showed Cease he was opening up too early and is having him ride on his back leg longer before starting. Good line: "But Cease noted to Katz that his delivery feels like that of Josh Hader, Milwaukee’s All-Star closer with a distinct cross-firing throwing motion. Cease is not cross-firing at all in Katz’s estimation, but it’s just that after two seasons of flying open, that’s how unfamiliar having a consistently straight line felt." Lopez - Katz thought Lopez' arm was getting too far from his body causing the velocity decrease. He's had him throw more compact and keeping his arm closer to a straight line. He is reintroducing his curveball now that the changes were made. Kopech - Kopech is going to be a Fastball, Slider, Curveball pitcher, his changeup is no longer the primary focus of the 3rd pitch. Giolito - They are refocusing on the Curveball. It won't be the same as it was in high school, and they are going for a "strike getting" pitch, but they aren't dismissing it becoming an out pitch. They also have focused on trying to keep his slider consistency to match how good itw as at end of last year. Lynn - Talked about Lynn's 3 fastball approach, but he's been working on two offspeed pitches and hoping to add those to his arsenal this year. Keuchel - Basically Keuchel is perfect and knows what to do on his own lol. The rest of the crochet stuff is mostly in the other thread. Thanks fegan.7 points

To me this Hendriks pursuit is like watching a bunch of kids having an easter egg hunt in the back yard, and you know there's a landmine in there because you just saw the dog take a dump in the grass this morning, and you're just sitting there watching and hoping that it's not your kid who ends up stepping into the pile of shit while trying to win a prize.6 points

I have been lurking for years. This isn't a Soxtalk problem, though. We literally can't know any more about the guy. He likes dogs. His wife is Canadian. He is a Codeify guy. He's Australian. He liked the Sox in a sound bite after he shoved it up their ass in game 3. He's also Liam Hendriks. Not Mariano Rivera. Sign him. Or don't. FFS!3 points

My son recently switched to a regular burger-only order at Portillo's. I thought he was nuts, but then I tried it -- that's a damn good burger.3 points

I think a lot of this can be explained by the peculiarly American form of religious thought, prosperity theology. According to to this rampant line of thought, all prosperity is from the favor of god. Those that aren’t favored are not prosperous. Therefore someone like Trump is favored regardless of his actions. If you’re laying on a boat in a drunken stupor every weekend this actually shows you are in favor since your god given prosperity has allowed you it. Meanwhile some poor kid standing up for his rights getting his head bashed in deserved it because his lack of prosperity shows he is out of favor of god. This is an actual mainstream philosophy echoing throughout the suburbs and cornfields of america.3 points

There were an awful lot of people who were tired of having to couch their hatred for minorities, libs, women in code words and wanted to express it openly.3 points

NO ONE SAID THAT EXCEPT YOU. We are saying some were, the video at the time showed it, and the case has gotten stronger over two days.,To you, that equates to they all must have been.2 points

Glove side and high also. You don't see a heckuva lot of strikes low in the zone or on the outside edge either. If you are only throwing strikes down the middle or up and in you aren't going to be effective.2 points

Worse thing I've heard today? Majority Whip Jim Clyburn's (D-SC) main office on the first floor of the Capitol with his name on the door where he sees the public went untouched, while his little hard-to-find, unmarked, working office on the third floor where all the work is done and the important papers are kept was ransacked. There had to be people embedded in the crowd directing this to happen. An inside job, A coup.2 points

I don't believe anyone would say it was all of them, clearly one of them died fighting these people and 60 were injured. But I would say this: 1. The administration conspired to keep the National Guard from assisting. 2. Whether the leadership of the Capitol Hill PD is ignorant or conspiring, I cannot say, but as noted an officer is dead because of their choices. 3. If a handful of them worked with the rioters, that's plenty. "We had a 99.8% success rate at not unlocking doors for armed, bomb-wielding terrorists" is not an acceptable rate. And frankly, whichever ones of them opened the doors, took selfies, stood by as the mob moved on secure areas - they let their colleagues down too.2 points

So at what point do we go back and quote the people in this thread who said how dare we say there was absolutely zero evidence and no way that there could have been substantial numbers of capitol police conspiring with the rioters?2 points

More in the linked thread. Ties into this: This is a systemic, national problem highlighted by a fascist mob being welcomed into storming the Capitol building and at least some of them appearing very prepared to take hostages or worse. more evidence and explanation of their complicity:2 points

I ended a thirty year business career and retired to educated. I've been teaching 12 years now from 8th grade in a poor school where most kids had a parent or less with little or no education and now I'm teaching seniors who generally have two college educated parents at home. A couple things I would do. First realize that as a society we're starting at an incredibly inequitable point. Poor kids with uneducated parents don't have books at home, they don't have parents that have the time and energy to teach them much. My current students have been surrounded by educational opportunities since birth. How do we fix that? Pre school programs. It's not much, but I've got nothing else. Lower home values mean less funding for schools. So poor schools have higher student to teacher ratios and less experienced teachers. I'm at a destination school in a destination district. I'm surrounded by quality educators who make me better each day. So the kids who are already ahead of the game have an advantage 24/7. We need a system that encourages our best educators to rotate into schools that need the best. They also need a guaranteed rotation back to the top schools they rotated from. When Texas implemented a new rating system for schools it did exactly what most teachers and administrators knew would happen. It identified the most affluent areas of the state with the highest educated parents. Based on these ratings the general public somehow believes I'm suddenly a better teacher because my students are performing better. My students have all the advantages from food security to parenting. This is already too long. I'll stop here.2 points

Do we have confirmation that he's received any 4-year deals? The off-season started with people talking 3/39M and saying whoever good to 4 will get him. Maybe were all still waiting for him to sign because no one wants to give him that 4th year. Have to imagine if he had a deal for 4/48M on the table from anyone right now, he'd be signed. This may play into our favor where every team realizes that extra year and money in this market is not going to happen.2 points

The Codify stuff is real. Hendriks loves the company and attributes much of his success to them. Not sure how much the White Sox want it out there but they're probably the most Codify friendly team in the sport currently. Yasmani Grandal and Lucas Giolito love it. Keuchel uses it now too and McCann will likely turn the Mets onto it. It's a big deal to Hendriks. Hopefully it helps.2 points
