Fuck it, Bauer is reeling, offer a 2 year deal he can't refuse. On paper, it would be best lineup, rotation, and bullpen in the game.5 points

They don't know anything. Nothing has happened in a month yet they still tweet their bullshit all while laughing at you for believing it.5 points

No. I wouldn't use the prospects they need to sustain a competitive window.4 points

Exactly. If you don't like the tweets just ignore them and comment on something else like I have to do with yourwhathurts posts.4 points

Anyone having trouble signing onto their COVID-Hookup.com account? I tried resetting my password and it still is giving me an error. There’s this really hot chick that sent me an email notice who is like two miles away... don’t want to miss the chance to go meet up with her. Edit: oops.4 points

Hey, it’s me Orlando popping up from behind a “push” to tell you that you that you can’t spell and you aren’t funny. Take a breather. I’ve never even posted a NotCishek tweet.4 points

Ton of money for a closer but who cares it isn't ours! This is the kind of reckless spending I've been dreaming of!! Go sign Bauer. Why not.3 points

Aged like a fine wine. Thanks for getting this deal done.3 points

Soccer leagues in Europe have Relegation, 3 Last Teams get relegated to AAA and top AAA teams get promoted to the majors. But leagues are organized a bit differently there, as the league is not an independent entity but there is one big league system that spans recreational ball and pro ball and in theory an adult Sunday league team could make the highest league if they win their league 7 times in a row (which never happens in practice because higher level teams have more money and can afford better players). That also means that relegation can be very threating to a soccer org as your team revenue is much lower in a lower league. Some teams never recovered from relegation and no play semi pro level.3 points

I apologize if it wasn’t about me. But I think this is the least pointless thread going right now. Trevor Bauer? pointless. Kris Bryant? pointless. Hendriks? Not so much. I guess it’s better to talk about players that will never wear a white Sox uniform then the player who even outside of the food guys and Cishek is heavily tied to the Sox.3 points

Some of the best moves in the past two decades have occurred when a team takes advantage of another's "need" to sell. This offseason has and should bring plenty of these opportunities. By a stroke of luck the Sox were/are positioned beautifully to strike during this offseason. So far, we seemingly paid top dollar for Eaton and traded value away for an underpaid Lynn. I feel like the Brewers, Rockies, Dbacks, Reds, Cubs and maybe the Red Sox could all still sell this offseason. Take advantage Rick. It doesn't need to be a perfect fit. Stack up some talent and win.3 points

Sometimes I wonder if there will ever be a hot thread in which Jack starts arguing with someone and ends up -Not- revealing his entire world view.3 points

In some ways these deals are the best of both worlds. The player gets generational money (guaranteed) while also ensuring they still have one crack at free agency while they are still in their "prime" earning years. In a best case scenario - they are obviously leaving money on the table, but in a worse case scenario - they have secured the fact that if they have any clue how to manage money...than they and all future generations of their family are more than set for life. Now each individual has different risk tolerances - but to me these deals seem like total no brainers as long as they are reasonably fair. The exception was the Braves deal where said player gave up way too much leverage (in my opinion).2 points

The quickest way to turn a good pen into a bad one is to overuse them. They still need starting pitching badly.2 points

It must be exhausting to search this much stuff out to be pissed off about. I hate this off season, but even I haven't gotten to the stage where I am cucking talk radio hosts to be upset.2 points

I remember people here were crapping on some Score show host or whatever who said that the Sox never planned on spending big money or giving out long-term deals or signing top-tier FAs this offseason. Some people took shots at him saying he had no sources while slurping up the food guys. Well, who was really right? By my estimation, "no source" Score is correct and the food frauds are still frauds.2 points

Again.....the Bears situation just isn't complicated. I know they are # 1 in this town and sports radio can't keep saying the same thing over and over.....but Pace built this entire window around the idea they have a high-priced defense with a QB on a rookie deal....that's how you make this work 2018-2021. It didn't. They picked the wrong guy with the No. 2 overall pick. For the 100th time....when you go all-in and bust out....you have to leave the table.2 points

I can already see the posts from this board a couple years after the WS title. "how could they mismanage the team so badly that they only got one title." "This FO sucks to only get one title out of this group" etc.2 points

Several years ago Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) was shot in Washington. Though I am a life-long Democrat, I was deeply shocked and disturbed by this. I wrote to his office wishing him a full recovery and told him that I respected him for whatever service he has given to this country. That must have had an effect on him because I get a personal Christmas card from him every year. I am now going to write him and remind him of the awful violence that happened to him. He needs to take a stand against what happened at the Capitol because he should understand the nature of political violence more than anyone. It will be interesting to see if he answers.2 points

I know a certain amount of you won't read the SI article but another thing was how Bauer helped Clevinger so much that during one game against the Sox in Chicago that Francona said something like the radar gun was hot and Bauer and Clevinger laughed about it. There was also a quote about how Bauer helped advance how Cleveland used data and training. I have seen quite a few here envious of how Cleveland has developed pitching and Bauer is instrumental for some of that.2 points

That's not the question with the Sox. With the Sox it's how do we add to the team to improve it while pretending we have this long window of competing so we can convince our fans that we are so poor that we can't afford to be a juggernaut. Usually that means not coming within $60M of the top of the payroll scale for any given year. I think most of the owners love how Covid has given them an excuse to not spend money and cut expenses and suppress labor and operating costs.2 points

Did you watch his latest video ? Yes you have to subscribe to his youtube account but you can always unsubscribe. He isn't making demands. He brings up things that are important to him , how he wants to grow his brand, how he wants baseball to grow, and what would make him happy. He doesn't care about the size of the market. He does care about winning and made it clear he doesn't want to play with a rebuilding team. He was happiest playing in a World Series. He wants honest communication with those in charge of him, more of a partnership than I'm the boss you are the employee type of thing. He thinks he can learn from others and others can learn from him. As an example he brought up how the D'backs didn't want him working with weighted balls and he did. Now everyone is working with weighted balls. He thinks he is at his best going every 4th day but he doesn't want it to disrupt his team mates routines and offers suggestions on how it could work.He specifically brought up how young pitchers on innings limits might need periods of rest. He brought up how certain guys might be better going every 6th day. He uses a ton of data and maybe things he uses the Sox aren't using and perhaps he can learn some things that the Sox are using that he isn't. He seems pretty open minded and is asking the team he chooses be the same way. Again he wants to be heard and if the Sox and his team mates are willing to hear his ideas and have an honest open discussion about it maybe that's enough , maybe its not. He said the Reds were very open with him and he enjoyed his time there. It doesn't seem like an impossible task to get along with the guy and treat him the way he would like to be treated. The Sox could always contact the Reds and ask them how they handled his ideas.2 points

Lay off Orlando! He brings a lot to this board and this thread. You hardly add anything to conversations but complain and cry about everything. For that you just won a Dewon Day bobble head for that comment.2 points

So how about you answer a question. You don’t want a rebuild. You want everyone back. Fine. What can this team realistically do the next two years? How do they compete for a Super Bowl in the next two years? Lay it out for us. Because If they can’t, blow it up now. Why wait two years?1 point

Oh but beef saying 3 weeks ago that a Hendriks deal is coming soon without any sources was newsworthy1 point

I believe capitalism and true democracy cannot coexist, because extreme income inequality is a feature of capitalism, not a bug. I am not a Leninist at all. I think Marx failed to take into account human nature and power vacuums. I agree with Marx's criticism of capitalism, but I disagree with his solutions. I believe in the Nordic model and to make labor and capital into a partnership instead of enemies. I do not believe that people should be forced into working in co-ops, but I also do not think that hierarchical organizations should be abolished either. It should be a choice made by each individual worker. Both options should be abundant and available. I believe every industry should have a union and collectively bargain. I believe in laws that, as a whole slightly favor consumers and labor over business. I believe in a strong social safety net and am a proponent of job guarantees rather than UBI. Anyone who wants to work, should be able to. Universal healthcare and generous retirement plans are a must. By that same token, any couple who wants one of them to be a full-time parent, should be able to have the breadwinner provide a decent lifestyle. I think that 50% of corporate shares should be held by the employees and rank and file employees should be elected to the board as they do for congress. Workers comprise 50% of corporate boards and investors the other 50%. I always am and have been a strong proponent of democracy. I believe that these things should be achieved through legislation, and free/fair elections within the system as it currently exists rather than via revolution. Revolution creates an unstable power vacuum ripe for exploitation. It is up to democratic socialist organizations to win the war of ideas. To summarize, I'm on more of the Robert Reich/FDR train of thought rather than more radical ideas. Modern democratic socialists are mostly social democrats, like myself. We call ourselves democratic socialists to present ourselves as an alternative to laissez-faire capitalism. In short, I want the government the hell out of my house, but up the ass of my workplace. Democratic Socialism, to me, is a system where the economy works for everyone instead of a small subset of the population. People can still be incredibly successful, but nobody hoards wealth.1 point

I have lived most of my adult life 10 miles from Dodger Stadium. When Tommy was at his peak and that peak lasted a long time he was one of the biggest celebrities in a town full of celebrities. He loved people unless you were on the other side questioning him or talking shit about the Dodgers. He hung out with any famous Italian celebrity he could and they actually sough him out ,Sinatra, Dean Martin, Vince Ferragamo when he played for the Rams. Don Rickles and Billy Crystal were huge Dodger fans. Tommy was the last celebrity manager in baseball. He was in all kinds of commercials and was a baseball ambassador throughout the world. Lasorda had just begun his coaching career in 1965 when he traveled to Japan to train the Tokyo Giants on team tactics and strategies. The Giants won nine consecutive championships beginning that year. In 2008 Lasorda was honored by the Emporer of Japan for his contributions to the development of baseball in the country. LaSorda had Rickles in the dugout during a game and Lasorda told him to go out to remove a Dodger pitcher and he did. SInatra told him when he became manger he would sing the National anthem and he did in 1977. He stopped his own HOF induction speech to introduce Tony Danza who was in the audience to see Tommy inducted. He was the host of one big Dodger party for many many years and was loved , by fans, the press celebrities and MLB for his tireless contributions to the sport globally.1 point
