  2. Which is why I think trading Madrigal, as so many have suggested, would be one of the biggest mistakes this org makes in the 2020s, if it happens.

  4. Kluber is such a logical move for the Sox, and fit is so good for him, that I texted my son today my belief that the Sox will sign Kluber. Let's review the fit. For the White Sox: 1. 2014-2018 one of the top pitchers in baseball, with 2 Cy Young awards, more than 200 IP each year. So the potential upside is tremendous, even at 35 in April. 2. Familiar with the AL Central, as all but 1 year in Cleveland. 3. He's not going to need a monster guaranteed deal to sign. Will likely have tons of incentives, and might potentially offer an option. This may be the key ingredient in why the Sox would pursue Kluber over Bauer. 4. Sox need a more reliable 4th starter given uncertainty about Kopech, whether Cease can make improvements, and the possibility that Lopez is next to worthless. They don't need a 4 year guy, however, as they expect their young starters -- Kopech, Crochet -- to develop into major roles. They need a 2-year bridge guy. 5. It he pitched at all close to what he did in 2017 or 2018, he would cement the Sox as AL Pennant favorites. 6. Insurance in case they can't get Lance Lynn to extend for a year or two. 7. Could help mentor young Sox pitchers. 8. Would be 4th Sox starter who could get Cy Young votes next year. For Corey Kluber: 1. Chance to join young team locked in for the next 3-4 years that is ready to compete for the World Series. 2. Great bullpen in place to preserve his leads and turn them into wins. 3. AL Central, where he's super familiar. But an upgrade over Cleveland. 4. No pressure to be a top-of-rotation ace. Could slot anywhere from 1-4 in the Sox rotation. Can help mentor young pitchers. 5. Great catcher to pitch to. (One of the reasons Keuchel signed with us.) Make it happen JH!!

  9. How did the Madrigal slappies turn this into a Madrigal pumping thread? Man I hope this dude balls out so some of you guys find another player in need of a defense force.

  10. Don't remind me of B & B, couldn't stand the condescending jerks and your comment on Rongey is spot on.

  11. McDoink FTW! I don’t ever want to hear Rongey, or “Ranger” even say the words WHITE SOX again. Rongey came from that era of The Score where they were really condescending and rude to the callers. It was a big part of the Boers and Bernstein show and I think it influenced all of the younger guys at the station. Rongey was a jerk.

  12. For us it makes more sense to take a chance on him and figuring out if our young guys can pitch. The alternative of trading good prospects away just seems like a bad idea unless we are getting a frontline guy in return for at least 3 years.

  14. And BTW that doesn't happen if someone isn't "baseball smart;" he'll likely improve on the basepaths and defensively. He's already shown in college that he is more than apt.

  19. I’m also upset that Ricky is gone. Renteria got a raw deal. If Renteria had a 3rd starter (Lynn) last year to start that Game 3, he’d still be here.

  20. I’m with you. I think he’s a perfect fit for our situation right now. High ceiling, but if he sucks/gets injured, hopefully Kopech is ready to take his spot in the rotation.

  22. Yes, loan forgiveness under the umbrella of urban poverty elimination would be great. The cost would probably be in the trillions. I'm not going to say state and local governments have been blameless in fighting poverty, but the amount of investment needed is far, far above what state and local governments can provide. Get corporate America involved too. When the Democrats roll back the tax breaks Trump gave them, allow them to gain some of it back by being partners in the program. I haven't seen any elected officials proposing anything at the level I'm suggesting. It doesn't get votes because it takes a generation to see real results and politicians only support things that produce results quickly so they can get re-elected. I'm hoping the COVID relief bills have greased the skids because we've approved $trillion+ packages.

  24. You say this like it is a bad thing. They aren't going to sign 10 major league contracts for the pen. Some of these guys will need to be on MiLB deals to get them into the system as depth. Guys want chances, and no one is signing to be the 11th guy in a pen, if they have a chance to be the 5th guy somewhere else.

  31. Ya, having too many starting pitchers isn't going to be an issue. Even if it were best case scenario, that shit will figure itself out. Like most, I love the idea of Kluber if he's healthy, hope Rick can make it happen.

  32. It's not just about Kopech vs. Kluber. If Cease is struggling, then Kopech can replace him. If somebody gets hurt, Kopech can be a replacement. If Kopech has to stay down all year because all five of our starters stay healthy and pitch well, then we'll be in the best team in the AL, and it won't even be close.

  33. I think that between the round the clock warnings about how beefy the police/military presence is and also the fact that the FBI/big business is cutting the ability for these people to organize in any meaningful way, we wont see any groups. What I am really worried about is lone wolf nutjobs.

  34. Do you really think if there was turmoil that most of these guys would say so? This could be pure cliché. Not saying it is, but speaking so matter-of-factly about quotes like this always amuses me. Most guys are going to keep their months shut regardless.

  35. If he’s pitching well, then he won’t lose playing time. If he’s not pitching well, then he wouldn’t be getting a big contract anyway.

  36. If you disagree with "everything" I post I would probably surmise you aren't particularly reasonable. But you'd have to give me more examples. Anyway, the fact is a lot of his traits and their usefulness are being ignored and most of the logic used against him, especially by Balta, is bogus as hell. You talk about bad takes? We can't afford for a guy to take "years" to develop? Said after only 29 games? Absurd. You really can't see the usefulness of being a tough out AND getting hits consistently? This isn't JUST some grindy guy who scratches and claws, he gets hits and gets on base a lot. And we know he can run and play defense because he did it in college. He's a perfect 9-hole hitter. I don't think his walk rate needs to he that high if he will consistently hit .300+ (just the fact he did this shuts down many arguments made against him already) but... You (like many on his doubters) are also missing the biggest point here: the sample size so far is 29 games. To assume he can't improve on certain things, even when we have seen him do them before coming to the major league level, is silly. Also, even being a "mediocre" MLB player has a lot of value. No team needs or realistically has a superstar at every single position. I agree his ceiling is likely only so high, but why does it need to be superstar level? A LOT of star prospects don't work out at all. Like I said before, the perception that every draft has Harpers/Trouts sitting at the top and anything below is a failure is a delusion.

  37. If the latter is the case, that should be the only focus. We're the reality-based community, we can't bring photos from a previous year into the discussion of whether or not she conspired to attack that building. I can judge her to be a terrible human being based on previous photos, but not all terrible human beings attacked the US Capitol building.

  38. I think it is the exact opposite. i think because they all got to see Nick play for years before he was drafted, everyone has already decided what he is going to be. If he was coming in from Latin America he would still be unknown and exotic, so people would be projecting a lot more optimism towards growth and advancement being possible.

  40. She is another genius. She took pictures of these clowns she gave the tour with and posted them on social media. Some were flashing Proud Boys White Supremacy signs. If this is true, she should be charged with Treason. She also is the one that set off the new metal detectors, and threw a fit about it.
