Excuse me, folks, But I claim to be the author of the dumbest post in Soxtalk history. Until you offer a post that gets ripped in Sports Illustrated .... I rest my case.11 points

The meltdown from Sox fans that is about to happen over Joe Musgrove is going to be epic ?9 points

Am I the only one that doesn't really want Cruz on this team? Yes, he's been ridiculous and very good (especially against the Sox), but he's 40 years old. At some point he's not going to be able to keep this up, right? It would be so White Sox to bring him him only to see him completely fall off a cliff in production. I wouldn't HATE if they got him for the DH, and on paper this looks great in the lineup, but man, this feels so EE all over again.6 points

Only 16 of the top 60 free agents have signed. There are still 8 starting pitchers available. I'm not gonna get upset because the Sox didn't give up assets to get Joe Musgrove.5 points

I agree with James on this. The Sox need to change their strategy on the type of players they draft. They draft too many college players that are older.5 points

If he feels a 68 year old catcher would make the Sox fans very happy then I think he needs to reevaluate what makes Sox fans very happy5 points

I would find it absolutely hilarious if the Sox win the WS this year with both Q and Eaton on the roster, along with Jimenez and Giolito.5 points

Cruz's stats the past 5 years have been .286/.369/.932 and he just got an abbreviated season to provide more rest. Yes, he'll slow down eventually, but unless everyone expects a monumental drop off, it hasn't arrived yet. Vaughn is your insurance policy. Depending on price - what's the downside?4 points

One day you're starting a thread facetiously thanking Reinsdorf for being Reinsdorfian and the next day you're trusting Hector Gomez thinking the Sox are going to spring for Nelson Cruz because there is more to play with than we think ? You are on a world class roller coaster my friend. Trust your instincts not Hector. Your heart is in the right place but not your mind. One vague Tweet about Sox fans being very happy and you lose it. Is it fun to think about ? Oh hell yes but it's not bloody likely. As a matter of fact it's so much fun to think about I want this post to age very very very poorly.4 points

This guy sent 62 unanswered texts and then said to himself, "I know! A dick pic will surely win this person over!" JFC the amount of weirdos on this planet never ceases to amaze me. What's amazing is the Mets might go down as the first team to ever fire their new Manager and GM in back-to-back years before a single game was played each year.3 points

Whatever the White Sox would have had to give up to beat the SD package would have been a mistake. Plenty of other options still available for just money, and not all that much of it.3 points

Impossible. He has shown in 29 games that he is a poor defender and may take years to become merely adequate./green3 points

Go sign Q and La Stella, you're now one of the best teams in the AL, call it a successful offseason.3 points

Like my cousin Jeff said, "everything is relative" ? I guess when your the cheapest of the cheapest and you bring yr payroll up to average, some accolades are in order All this money and hype in signing players etc and the hire TL as manager?? WTF?3 points

Lots of love for Trevor Bauer in this thread. Why should he want to play for the Chicago White Sox?3 points

I thought it would have been pretty messed up to start Kopech in the minors 2020. Not so much in 2021 though. The guy hasn’t thrown a competitive pitch in 2 years3 points

Let's take service time out of the equation for a moment. Given the last pitch Kopech threw in competitive play was September 5, 2018 and has a total of 14.1 IP, along with the Sox trying to compete for a World Series this season....I still think he starts in AAA taking out any service time "manipulation" It's just the right move given where he is in his comeback attempt.3 points

I mean usually I would agree with you in this case but not on Kopech or Vaughn this year. Starting Kopech with the big league club would be stupid.3 points

If it helps anyone, this is what I know of Gomez's history with the Sox: 2018-2019: Continuously said that he believed Machado would sign with White Sox. Stated that Sox offered 8 years, $250 million. Chicago media went out in full force to tell him he was wrong about the offer (they believed it was $175 million). Obviously, he ended up being right about the offer, but wrong about him signing here. March 2019: First reporter to announce that Eloy Jimenez and the Sox were working on an extension, which was official within a week. December 2019: Retweeted a fellow reporter (Frank Castillo) who believed Marcell Ozuna was signing with the White Sox. Gomez was not the reporter who said Ozuna would sign, he just said he believed in his colleague's info.3 points

Funny that Clemens was accurate though. So many typing errors in that article tho, reads like QAnon.2 points

If we had the guts, everything would line up for the Sox in the pursuit of Bauer. We are team competing for a Championship for the next 4-5 years for sure. Our new pitching coach is very heavy into analytics. Generally speaking our team does a good job of allowing our players to market themselves and we promote that behavior. Tony LaRussa seems like the type of manager, of any manager in baseball, that would be willing to experiment with allowing a pitcher to pitch every 4th day, at least at some point throughout the season. The problem is we have a fairly cheap owner when it comes to pitching, rightfully so, because not many long term pitching, or hitting for that matter, have worked out for the teams. But this is the perfect place for Bauer based on what he has said he is looking for in a team.2 points

We need to teach these young pups the history of Soxtalk...2 points

To respond to this, here's a thought: It ain't against the rules to, ya know, acquire your 3rd playoff SP at the TDL. It also ain't against the rules to see if Q or Cease or Kopech or someone else can become the 3rd playoff starter over the course of the season. Roster construction is an ongoing art & science. Rarely are teams "finished" on January 18th. Blowing the entirety your trade or FA wad at this point doesn't seem to be the best use of resources, IMO. Carry on, then...2 points

You saw the decline in EE the year prior, not saying that it’s impossible for that to happen to Cruz but he does not look like he’s at the point of slowing down yet2 points

I don't think this cruz stuff is true, but the sox blowing the budget on the top DH and top closer would be hilarious because it would both subvert and reinforce longstanding opinions on how sox operate.2 points

CWS, my man! Thank you for asking good sir! Instead of making a monetary bet, the bettors wage a ban or suspension for a certain length of time. Say the ban bet terms are for a 2 month suspension. The loser of the bet gets banned/suspended for 2 months. However, if the bet was not made in good faith or was completely unfair, the ban bet can be voided. For better or for worse, ban bets are no longer enforced here. I was winning so much. The mods got sick of all my winning and put an end to ban bets. Plus, I started feeling bad for pulverizing poor saps in these ban bets. I'm a lover, not a fighter, and I don't want to see good folks getting banned.2 points
