Don’t care. This guy is incredibly overhyped by this fanbase. If he was such a great hitter, more teams would have been in on him.8 points

The division has a ton of lefties. Sox mash lefties. Eaton hits lefties decent. Joc is the worst player in baseball against lefties. I like Joc as a platoon, but people are making this sound like sox missed out on Springer. It's almost comical at this point.5 points

I hear what you are saying, but dude is cheap relative to what he has. The Bulls are always atop the league in attendance and are revenue beasts, yet the Bulls don't sign the top guys and will never pay the luxury tax. The White Sox have a two year window of splurging on one year deals before their own get expensive. This market and this year was the time to take a few gambles on guys like Cruz and Q. Load the team up and try to steal a quick title. If Cruz and Q flop you go to your young guys. I appreciate the team these guys have put together, but man it would have been nice to spend a few extra to really take off.4 points

The expectations this board is putting on yoelqui cespedes and/or Oscar colas to be near-ready, low risk MLB contributors are confusing and seemingly unfounded.4 points

The Sox did not need Joc vs. lefties. Joc is vastly superior to Eaton vs. righties, of which there are a ton more of in the division. His platoon bat (strong side), ability to play all three OF positions and DH against righties is EXACTLY the type of depth move that the Sox needed. Joc fills more needs than Eaton. Nobody thinks he's Springer.4 points

Joc was just a better overall fit for this team. I'm not going to be pretend I'm furious about this but it's annoying. The Sox offense while obviously very good last season was middle of the pack in OPS and wRC+ against RHP, Joc just so happens to kill right handed pitching and will probably be a better defensive right fielder than Adam in 2021 as well. The fact that he signed for cheaper is just annoying like I said. Would have been a real nice fit for this team. Oh well I guess.4 points

Robbie Grossman signs for less than Eaton and now Joc signs for the exact same amount? Extremely cool and doesn't make me furious at all that the White Sox rushed out to sign an extremely mediocre player at the beginning of the off-season.4 points

Eaton's defense is very overrated because of how good he was in 2016. He hasn't been close to that guy ever since leaving the Sox3 points

I mean this is true. But people can't have it both ways. In October I would have told you that Joc Pederson can be had for something like 1/$8-10 million or 2/$16 million. In december, Adam Eaton signs for essentially 1/$8, was told pederson sucks, and that he was trying for a big contract like $12 million+. In late January, he signs for 1/$7 million. The posters complaining about people complaining now were the same that tried to shut people up who complained then by saying he was going to be a lot more expensive. I think Joc Pederson is good and a great complement to sox lineup. I understand how eaton came to be. I'm sorry that it hurts people's brains to point out that sometimes players are better than we have, yet still not perfect players. It reminds me of when every marginal upgrade to 2b from 2017-2019 we'd hear that Yolmer Sanchez does the same thing. The idea that someone can be better but but amazing just destroys peoples brains it is so complicated.3 points

The Sox need another SP preferably a 2 or 3 and they need another bopper in their lineup not named Andrew Vaughn it’s simple as that. They can’t rely on Cease, Reynaldo, or Kopech early on especially if it’s 100+ games and no expanded playoffs, every game matters. The offense is great against the garbage in the ALC and NLC but what about when they get to the playoffs? If again all it costs is money Ozuna/Cruz/Springer/Bauer should be on this team, it’s completely unacceptable that Adam Eaton was the major upgrade on offense when so many other bats were and are still available. If they don’t come away with Ozuna/Cruz/Bauer or a trade for a bat I once again consider this offseason a failure because as currently constructed they are not the team to beat in the World Series let alone the AL there’s way too much volatility here3 points

I don't get it. Sox fans seem to love Joc, but not because they watch him play baseball. He was fucking awful last year, can't play defense and the Dodgers had zero interest in bringing him back. Compare him to Adam Eaton though.3 points

Cease and Lopez were two of the worst pitchers in baseball last year. Having them both in the rotation to start the year for a contending team is awful. Don’t forget the offenses the Sox will face will be better this year, as the Central offenses were a disgrace.3 points

So even when the cubs are trying to shed all the payroll in the world, they end up with a better OF acquisition then us. Cool JR3 points

You gotta have dreams. You gotta process those dreams into goals. The goals have to be realistic, believable, desirable, measurable, and public. He's hitting all those points. I'm going to use him in an upcoming lesson on goal setting. Now that he has that long range goal he can break it into steps. Fitness to stay healthy. Consistent improvement. Great off season regiments. I'm certain his mental game coach is proud.3 points

What do you know this guy has done to coordinate people into buying this stock? Legitimately asking, because I think a lot of people have made assumptions of this guy, WSB, etc. Very few people who aren't actually on reddit are understanding the situation from what I've seen/heard.2 points

Come on man, we’re good because we traded away a bunch of talented assets and signed a couple Cubans. Go look at our list of biggest free agent signings and tell me Jerry isn’t cheap.2 points

JR is neither cheap nor dumb in my opinion. It's fair to disagree with how he operates but we are currently one of the best teams in baseball. Someone is doing something right.2 points

Heh... so Joc overplayed his hand and got burned. I don't know why, but he just seems like the type of player who would come here and absolutely suck anyways.2 points

My guess is that the White Sox offered both 1 year $7M. Eaton took it and Joc waited 2 months to take the deal. I assume Joc wanted multiple years and a higher AAV and caved today. If Joc was offered a full time role than good for him. Joc has his ring so this is the best situation for him to face LHP and get a bigger deal next year. Everyone can piss and moan how great Joc is but this is a nothing deal that only a Sox message board would be up in arms about. Joc is so awesome he got a one year $7M deal. When Eloy goes on the DL Eaton can play against LHP and have some success Joc cannot. In late August this board would b**** and moan about how bad Joc is against LHP and what an idiotic move this was.2 points

You mean like how hedge funds pool resources to make coordiated moves? Or maybe like floor traders who curb traded in the 80s by switching orders on their cards? As long as he revealed his position and interest, what he did is just as above board as what has gone on over the last 50 years.2 points

I like Joc more than Adam but is there really a significant enough amount of difference between them to warrant people being upset? If so, what is it? I'd rather spend my negative energy being upset we aren't likely going to significantly upgrade our rotation.2 points

The Sox didn't lose a game started by a left handed pitcher last year and that was with a right fielder who didn't hit anyone. Who gives a shit if Pederson can't hit lefties. They have that covered.2 points

This is the right stance. Offseasons for the CWS have been major failures.2 points

Joc Career VS LHP: .191 .266 .310 .576 Eaton Career VS LHP: .272 .344 .351 .695 saying that Joc is only marginally worse than Eaton against LHP is just stupid.2 points

The article said one thing that appealed to Joc was that the Cubs weren't going to platoon him. I don't think the White Sox would go that far, and if they did, that would be stupid.2 points

Why are people mad he wants to have a goal of 3,000 hits? Of course it's not going to happen. But I'm glad he has some confidence and a goal to work towards.2 points

He had the second-best OBP on the team in his rookie year. I would say his ceiling is plenty high.2 points
