  4. If any mayor of Illinois said some shit like that, he/she would rightfully be raked over the coals. And it's really hard to find daylight between him and Abbott when Abbott is going on Fox News yesterday blaming the new green deal and wind turbines, and Ted Cruz and Crenshaw and Cornyn pointing and laughing at California when it was on fire, and blaming the governor instead of the private company that is at fault.

  5. Pretty damning quote. Just tells you the quality of free agent they try to engage.

  6. I still am 100% against the hire, and haven't spent a dime on anything that would go back to the White Sox since it happened. I plan on continuing that until he is gone.

  7. So are we at the point now where we are going to cherry pick everything someone we we don't like says in order to make them look like an awful person? Cause that's kind of where it feels like we're at right now.

  12. Frankly...YES. You absolutely prepare for 10 in 100 year weather events. A 1 in 100 year weather event is all but guaranteed to happen during your lifetime. Having that turn into a disaster that kills dozens is a bad thing! And some areas of the country are flat out guaranteed to have them happen every few weeks! Plus, if this is a 1 in 100 year cold snap (it isn’t), are you unprepared for 1 in 100 year floods? What about 1 in 100 year heat waves? 1 in 100 year wind events? 1 in 100 year flash floods? This is why you require resiliency to be built into systems you rely on, because they start failing every decade or so if you don’t; and in different ways each time. We scrapped all the plans for a 1 in 100 year pandemic after the Trump team took over. The end results were bad! Maybe you don’t spend the money building out to 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10000 year events, but you at least consider what they will do. Will a 1 in 1000 year cold snap leave a state with 1000 dead? If so, maybe you need to harden infrastructure even more because that would be a really severe policy failure.

  14. I got the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine yesterday. Aside from some mild arm soreness, I've had no issues. I did wake up about 2:00 this morning and found myself sleeping on the arm where I got the shot. That smarted a bit.

  15. Gotta be this for me. Took roughly 4 1/2 years to complete. The vast majority were acquired in-person, with a few purchased from a dealer I trust.

  16. I don't know how many lefties we will face, but I think we will win 123 out of the 125 games started by a righty. You might be thinking, "Wait a minute, if you know how many times we will face a righty, then you know how many times we will face a lefty". But I'm not sure how many ambidextrous starters we will face.

  19. You're right about that. People who say RH should have walked if he didn't like the decision are a little too black and white. Nobody knows what Hahn's goals are financially except him. It's always easier finding a job when you have one already.

  21. The quote below from the Nightingale article is EXACTLY what makes me nervous about TLR and what he'll do to the clubhouse - “He saw the game the way it was going and didn’t like it. He told me, 'I really don’t have the right to complain if I don’t do something about it.’ So now he’s in position to do something about it.’’ What part of where the game is going is it that he doesn't like, people having fun while playing the game? This reeks of enforcing "unwritten rules of baseball" mentality and I want no part of that. I regret reading that article - today is supposed to be only good news.

  33. I realize many of us dislike the TLR hiring, and everyone has a right to deal with that as they wish. Personally, I chooses to concentrate on the players and what happens on the field. I will be going to games this season (provided fans are allowed - fingers crossed), I'll buy the gear, I'll cheer them on. I liked Renteria, but he lacked the edge and made some piss-poor decisions regarding pitching. As far as Hendriks and others looking forward to playing for him, why wouldn't they? Thoughts of him personally aside, he's proven to be a very good manager and has demonstrated the ability to handle a pitching staff very well. If he leads this team to the playoffs, a pennant, a World Series, the players are going to like playing for him. Besides, what do you expect the players to say? That they don't want to play for him? Anderson was honest about his thoughts and is still willing to see what happens before making biased assumptions. Throughout this season, let's complain about TLR for the same reasons we've complained about previous managers. Let's b**** about lineups, play 10th inning arm chair managers regarding pitching changes, and proclaim that we could do a better job. And let's cheer this bad ass team all season while they fuck up the rest of the AL.

  39. It's easy right now. Things get interesting next week when guys start working with each other and start really interacting. We will really learn something when things go badly. How doesn't Tony treat people when things go wrong? How do obviously more sensitive guys with loud voices react if Tony gets on them? How does Tony react if guys push back against his Boomer antics? What happens if Tony's politics run into a guy like TAs politics head on? These are the types of things that could shatter this team quickly.

  40. While it has been suggested that the severe bends in the jet stream are climate-change related, that isn't fully accepted in in the literature yet. Intense weather systems hitting Texas aren't impossible every 10 or 20 years under the previous climate regime. It may not have happened this year without the changes humans have put in the atmosphere, but it would have eventually. There's a lot more work to be done to be able to attribute this one strongly to a human-driven climate change effect. If you want to talk about the poor design and multiple failure points in the Texas electric grid regulations and how that was the direct trigger for this, go for it.

  43. I don't even like thinking about the ugly underbelly of being a Sox fan. There's just so much you can bring up. They finally got lucky with McCann and he's a pending free agent who you weren't going to re-sign and had value. They could have traded him. Why didn't they ? Are they paralyzed from the neck up because someone will say White Flag again ? Yolbert Sanchez and Yoelquis Cepedes signed. Sanchez was 22 when signed for $2.5M and is now 24 . Cespedes signed at 23 for $2M . 2 years later Sanchez hasn't even played in A ball yet. Oscar Colas will be 23 when the Sox sign him probably for upwards of $1M and people are thrilled about it thinking these guys will be in the lineup in a few years. Those aren't anything but hot takes. Let's not draft High School Players who have an extra 3 or 4 years to develop compared College Jr's. and Sr's. Where is all our young talented SS's and CF,s ? Oh yea I forgot the one we finally got our GM got fleeced for him because teams target those kinds of guys while the Sox still don't. There are reasons why certain teams always seem to have a good influx of young talent that doesn't apply to how the Sox operate. The rest of baseball signs 16yr olds. The Sox sign 22 and 23 yr. olds in the same market. Play Collins and Mercedes in 2019 maybe you have a good DH for 2020 or trade bait to the NL who had DH's in 2020. Now no DH in NL and Sox are stuck with 2 DH's who apparently they don't trust to be catchers or to DH. Go Sox. Let's hire a manager who didn't want to manage. Let's hire another Manager with pending drunk driving charges hanging over him who hasn't Managed in 10 years and completely undermines the process our GM spat out in a News Conference.

  44. We are talking about when a team chooses to not spend and chooses to depend on luck then you better give the young guys a chance to prove they are worth something otherwise they are depreciating assets. When you depend on luck every move or non move you make can have consequences on a teams ultimate fate. Vaughn wasn't ready in 2019, Vaughn wasn't ready in 2020. Collins and Mercedes should've got more opportunities. McCann got an opportunity and he ran with it. Sox went with Castillo many time in the 2nd half in a year that didn't matter. They went with EE in a year that didn't matter though it could have if those guys were given an opportunity and EE not signed. Who the heck was even DHing the 2nd half of 2019 for the Sox . Go look at the 2019 roster and see what scrubs from that team are still on the roster. 2019 they tried to luck into signing Machado by signing his friends. In 2016 they tried to luck into a declining pitcher who was a disaster with the Padres but hey they got a team to eat a bunch of money and lost a future superstar. All the Sox keep doing is trying to save money by paying for terrible veteran free agents when they have guys in the system who could DH or catch or even show some hitting ability who they could keep for 6 years or improve their worth. Time after time it's more about the money than winning. It's more about spinning the roulette wheel. IF that's the strategy spin it on Collins and Mercedes when they could have. If they sucked fine you can finally say Collins is a bust or Mercedes is a AAAA player and move the fuck on. It's always the same road. Dangle that carrot for the fans and keep building the franchises worth and finishing 2nd. Under Reinsdorf they always choose the same path. They keep the fans involved by signing some Cubans who have worked out while hardly doing anything else with young players from the DR and trading away money. Yay the Sox now have a pitching coach everyone loves so let's not get any more pitching. Yay they have upgraded the analytics department from the damn Stone Age. Let's all be happy because we have a promising young team during Covid and labor strife. I can see where this is all leading . It's a disaster waiting to happen . The whole Mercedes /Collins thing is just a microcosm of bigger issues. All I wanted to do was celebrate Mercedes birthday in a positive way. Now I'm ranting because I chose to be positive and you kick over my sandcastle. And yes it's still possible for me to be happy watching White Sox baseball while dumping on ownership. Thank heaven I'm in So Cal where I won't be tempted to spend any money on them.
