  1. LOL. I guarantee if they didn't like him they wouldn't have made those shirts. Dude's are having fun with it, you're 100 percent taking this the wrong way.

  2. I guarantee they wouldn't have made the shirts if it didn't bother them. I guarantee it. When I was playing DIII my first year in Florida I thought I was hot shit as I had some Juco offers but ended up going to my academic school. I was a frosh starter on a really bad team but thought I was hot shit so the guys pranked me with a "pro scout" that called the hotel line at 7AM and "wanted to meet me in the lobby to arrange a workout". I went down to the lobby and it was all the seniors with shit eating grins on their faces. These things bring teams together when handled correctly. Like my razzing, Nick will learn to let his play speak and the team will be closer. It's a credit to Jose and the other leaders like TA that they handled it this way with light teasing and made it a bonding moment instead of a dividing one.

  3. They're obviously busting his balls, but I highly doubt Madrigal having a ton of confidence in himself rubs vets the wrong way. He's not showing anyone up with that comment and they all have a ton of confidence (hell, Eloy just said he thinks he's going to win MVP soon). Madrigal rubs you the wrong way, that's all.

  4. Dude. It sounds like you were the A hole and your team didn't like you. That doesn't necessarily equate to Madrigal. To me it seems like the team giving him some good natured shit after he said something stupid. You know, like friends do.

  5. I...ok. I'll stick with LOL on your whole opinion of this and move on.

  6. I'll stop posting because honestly I just don't think enough people here played team sports enough or at a high enough level to get it. There is totally an element of "STFU and be humble" for young cocky players at any level above high school. Including my summer league travel teams and even my shitty DIII squads.

  7. Greg - my parents, in law, wife have all gotten the vaccine. Other than some fatigue my wife experienced for half a day - no one else had any side effects other than a slightly sore arm. Multiple millions of people have gotten the shot - yes some people have gotten sore or bad some allergic reactions and maybe a day of not feeling too hot - but it isn’t like people are dropping dead from this - very much the opposite. Think of this as the flu shot that gets the world it’s mojo back (in time)!

  11. The second Chicago team. Official color: offputtingly-bright blue. Official logos: baby bear / sans-serif "C" / rapidly closing window. Official odors: pee-pee / failure. The slide into mediocrity continues? One last run with the 2016 core? Discuss. Sorry-not-sorry in advance to the too-cool-for-crosstown-rivalry set.

  12. I am equally excited about Yoelqui. I believe Paddy said back in January he’s close to MLB-ready. The only thing that caught my eye recently was where he landed on Fangraphs Top 34 prospects list for the Sox. He came in at #25, so I’m trying to understand just what kind of talent he actually is. I thought as #1 on the international prospects list we were getting another blue chip, elite talent and that he’d easily be somewhere in the top ten, but apparently Fangraphs doesn’t think so.

  14. There's a world of difference between a player saying he thinks he's going to have a great career and saying he thinks he's the best player on the team (or "just throw me the damn ball" as T.O. used to say). It sounds like what you were probably saying or implying to your teammates back in the day was a lot closer to the latter than the former.

  15. Sounds less like it rubbed them the wrong way and they were just joking around to mess with you.

  17. Totally. I was going to post the same thing. Nick is Eaton 2.0. Young talented player, small stature, chip on shoulder and tends to rub vets the wrong way. That said, Eaton has matured, won a championship, seen his career flash before his eyes with bad injuries requiring a lot of rehab and mental toughness. I hope Eaton takes Nick under his wing.

  18. Just idle thought here, but I wonder how Eaton is fitting in with this team and carving out his role as a vet. Seems like when he was young, he was doing that Madrigal is doing and probably knows how to approach him. From interviews, he sounds like he knows he was brought in to fire guys up and be the gritty vet, show the ropes, etc. But he also knows this isn't "his" team and he doesn't need to be "the voice". No real point here, just the Madrigal discussion has me wondering how everyone is coming together and finding their roles early.

  19. Of my doctor/educator friends who have received both shots, the worst side effect was fatigue for a day. I had a sore arm after one shot. For my wedding in late September, we're going to require vaccination proof - we already know that we're going to lose 3 or so guests, including my fiancee's aunt and uncle. Bafflingly stupid.

  21. I see no reason to bring in Yoenis. I'd be fine if it was a minor league deal, but if they have a few extra mill to spend, they should have brought in another SP instead.

  26. Missouri is ran very differently than this state. If there is a state that can screw this up, it's ours. Didn't help with football. Lori said the Bears didn't communicate well enough with her.

  28. Remember when everyone was saying JR's heirs wanted no part of the team when he was no longer around, and I told you it was the exact opposite? I had a really good source.

  29. We're officially at the point of spring training when I start hating spring training. The initial excitement of pitchers and catchers reporting has long worn off, the excitement of the start of actual games has worn off, and now it's just a countdown to April 1st and hoping for no injuries.

  34. Santana got less than that - his contract allowed him to be cut very early in the season at a much lower cost. Spotrac thinks he got $716k. https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/kansas-city-royals/ervin-santana-450/cash-earnings/ https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/04/white-sox-designate-ervin-santana-for-assignment.html

  35. So they have a few options. But basically, Seabrook will remain on LTIR for the rest of his contract. His salary and cap hit stay on the books in the offseason. The Hawks will need to be under or at the 81.5 million dollar salary cap. However, once the season starts, Seabrook will be placed on LTIR and that cap hit comes off the books for the season, which means the Hawks could acquire a player to fit that salary window. But once the season ends......that Seabrook contract is back on the books until Day 1 of the NEXT season. That's why just acquiring another long term, expensive piece isn't that easy. Seattle and the expansion draft could be their shot to get them to take the Seabrook deal if they aren't planning on competing for a few years, but the Hawks would have to send over a fairly nice package for Seattle to accept. Hope that helps a little bit.

  38. As an FYI Greg, your former high school offered the vaccine to all faculty and staff through SXU. They also have done a pretty amazing job with their COVID educational plan. It does seem that basketball is going well and I think football is excited about their 6 game schedule although the #1 back is out with an injury and baseball will be top 5 if not #1 in the state. They have two potential guys that could be talked about rather highly in the 2023 and 2024 drafts.

  39. Glad Nick is rolling with it. Nick isn't a wilting flower, you don't become a top prospect at his size without grinta. And yea, Fegan is amazing. He's the beat reporter we deserve after years of mediocre shit.

  41. Unrelated to this but I wanted to put this somewhere and it gets to grreg's post. I have a relative that believes that all organ donations are illegally harvested. She is a complete whacko in my mind. Anti vaxxer, believes masks are killing us etc. The stupidity of functioning members of society is becoming rather alarming to me.

  42. OK, I understand what you were going for in your previous post. That said, I think I disagree. I think that 2021 should be the more likely year to compete. Or, at least, this is the way those geniuses in the FO have hoped for it to be. [Rather than PLANNING for the best year to compete..] By 2022, Keuchel will be 34, and will likely be in the middle of age-related regression. Lynn likely will have signed somewhere else in FA. Rodon will again be released. Grandal will be 33, and may begin his age-related regression as well. Eaton will either be gone or injured, and TLR will be a year closer to alcohol-related dementia. Meanwhile, to succor TLR, the SOX will have wasted a year of control on putting crochet in the BP. Oh, and BTW, the CBA expires after this season. I'm sure noted labor ally JR will gladly give the players all that they want, in order to keep the games going. So, IMO, its hope/wish/pray for competence out of Cease/Lopez/Rodon/Kopech to find the strike zone this season. OR, hope for this FO to actually put in the work to acquire the necessary rotational depth to compete. During an open CBA negotiation next offseason.
