  1. They haven’t even played their best baseball yet and have the third highest run differential in the AL. While fans focused on the negatives over the first week, it’s apparent to me that this is the most talented White Sox team since the 90s.

  5. I'm so glad we hired Tony LaRussa so this team could be managed like a 1999 National League roster. We're plucking guys off the street and dumping them into our lineup over our top prospect whom we're burning a year of service time for in order to have available. He has hits in his last two appearances and a .353 OBP in 13 games, and he's sitting for career nomads when we're desperate for a bat like his in the lineup. The LaRussa hire can kiss my ass.

  11. Another home opener where the White Sox get the fans into the stadium just to wait. I guess there might be a window to play, but it’s probably not until 5:30. Yikes.

  12. I was sitting in front of some of his family. It was awesome to hear how excited they were. Despite the low attendance, the atmosphere (especially in the 1st inning) rivaled the buzz I haven't felt since Kopech's debut in 2018

  13. Man I just tried to tune into AM1000 and 670 and both are just streaming generic nationwide shows talking NFL salary cap? Oof. There HAS to be a market for more Chicago baseball talk on air.

  14. Nice of you to admit it. Take a deep breath. Team is 500 after 8 games... long way to go with some great guys in TA, and Engel returning soon... Others waking up big time in YoYo and Luis... it's gonna be fun.

  17. Luis Robert's at-bats have improved drastically in the last few days. His weakness as a hitter (for now) is that pitchers will use his tendency to want to rip everything against him but instead of doing that he's letting them walk him. Just a matter of time before he starts consistently blasting 110+ mph to the gaps again.

  19. Hey Buck Showalter: "There’s a reason why he’s moved around,” former Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Monday night on MLB Network. “Trust me, it’s not just pure baseball. I remember when he was taken in the (Rule 5) draft, we were glad they took him. “It doesn’t mean he can’t play. You trust your people. I saw the numbers. He could hit a little bit. (But) I remember talking to the farm director, talking to the general manager: ‘What do we got on this guy?’ They did not think his ability would override the other challenges he had.” Chew on a few more Yermin homers you old bag.

  24. All I said was it's a legitimate spot for 1 game. Your anger at LaRussa and reference to his drinking just shows a prejudice against him . Nick Williams has done more MLB against LHP than Vaughn has and has played more LF. Not one person has said Vaughn can't hit RHP but as of now he hasn't . It's equally preposterous to expect Vaughn to be able to hit any MLB pitching with such little experience. Collins , Vaughn, Williams have all paid their dues. Why is it so bad for Vaughn to do the same ? So sue me if for 1 game I think Williams is a better choice than Vaughn and the manager agrees.

  25. And I fully acknowledge that Williams will get 2 hits tonight because everyone's bitching about him starting, that's just the way it works.

  26. Nick Williams isn't even close to a good enough hitter for his handedness to matter when making out the lineup. When you can't hit the platoon advantage doesn't fucking matter.

  27. It’s opening day too. Why not let him experience it at home for the first time? No one in that stadium is paying to see Williams in LF

  29. I never saw Ricky lift his starter with a 4-1 lead and not take out the reliever until the inning was over and the team was trailing 8-4.

  30. What's hilarious is people who deny the deterioration of one's mind and body as they get old, 70+ nearing 80. It's science but for some reason people want to act like it's discriminatory. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2596698/ It's also why electing a near 80 and beyond POTUS is flat out idiotic.

  31. I have been low on Madrigal for a while, so keep my bias in mind, but I just don't think his approach will allow him to be successful given his physical limitations. He has one elite skill and that is getting the bat on the ball. The problem is that he hits the pitches that the pitchers want him to hit. His chase contact percentage is 81% in his small sample of 134 plate appearances vs a league average of 59%. That is a great category to be elite in when you're down 0-2 with 1 out and a guy on third, but most of the time you're just throwing away at bats. If his fielding or speed were elite he'd be a fine everyday second baseman, but they arent. My hope with him is that adjust his approach so that he doesn't put so much emphasis on not striking out. He knows that he can always make contact when the situation calls for it, so why not sell out a bit with less than two strikes? His hands are certainly quick enough to do damage if he added some loft to his swing.

  33. IF anyone really thought he was going to be amazing right off the bat you were fooling yourself. that is why AJ Hinch was the right move. But it's time to move on. I swear people forget the sox were 3-4 to start the MUCH shorter season last year as well.

  34. What Boyer said is a joke. Ask people who went to the 2018 and 2019 Openers. It wasn't long ago that Brooks and the Sox management allowed fans to wait on a rainy day for well over an hour (maybe longer tha two hours as I seem to recall) before calling the game while they collected Beer money from them. I have been to over 30 Openers and that was even worse than the Snowpener. I have no issue with them trying to get the game in, but do it in a reasonable way. Don't make rain-soaked people wait all day out there.

  39. If Nick Madrigal is not ready to be a solid member of a playoff team, that’s totally ok. If your team insists they are a playoff team, then they better have plenty of depth to cover things if prospects come up and struggle, or they can’t afford to have the prospect filling that role. In that case, should have been traded in the offseason to a team where the expectations this season are lower, or had someone signed where he can have additional time to work in the minors. This is the standard the White Sox insisted they were setting. “We will show good fundamentals on our way to a playoff birth” is in their opening day message. They did not say “in 2023 after more guys develop”. Edit: no idea why moving text around also changed the font size.

  42. I can only gather that he's really pressing and pressuring himself and he's playing tight. He needs reassurance that he can fail and be okay. Gordon Beckham had the same kind of self-pressure. His own worst critic.
