Luckily the Rangers read the Soxtalk scouting reports and were playing Nicky shallow!6 points

No one here gives a fuck about the padres. Jfc, why don't you and caufield go find a padres forum to babble on about. My goodness.6 points

I looked over Hendriks' pitch selection and he's throwing fastballs to lefties 86% of the time. It was 72% last year and 68% in 2019. His slider usage in general has gone down almost 10%. His curveball also hasn't gotten as many whiffs as it has in the past, but that could just be due to the small sample size so far, as he's mostly fastball/slider. Out of the 18 sliders he's thrown, only 6 have been in the zone. Maybe 8 are considered pitches that a hitter can actually hit. A lot of them are waste/wipe out pitches. But most importantly, he's only thrown 3 sliders and 4 curveballs to left handed hitters. He threw 22% sliders to lefties last year and 7% curveballs. At least make the lefties worry about your off-speed pitch. I don't care if you throw 99, eventually guys are going to start cheating on the fastball. Today's game proves just that. There's no way Calhoun gets anywhere close to hitting that ball unless he knows a fastball is coming. Unless Liam can no longer throw off-speed pitches for strikes, he should be fine. But I think this issue is very fixable.5 points

Now what if it was Benetti who had to be held back, how would you feel? Fans should be banned but Kopech needs to keep his cool and let security handle it5 points

Dude this is a White Sox winner thread!!!!!! And ptatc and Tex don't give running updates about other teams in game threads5 points

Yermin not getting called up 2 years ago is a travesty akin to the Tatis Jr. trade. What a freaking joke. We beat Oakland with him playing instead of Edwin last year. Hell, we probably have a better regular season record.4 points

Was out to dinner for my anniversary so recorded the game. Just finished. Nick with an awesome game defensively and the huge hit. Great for nicky! Larussa is an absolute moron for bunting with grandal but at the same time nice defensive switch in the 7th, which I didn't love at the time. But that bunt is inexcusable3 points

Thought we could use a Robert thread after the season he has been having. As of now he is absolutely locked in. I have been looking at his advanced stats and here are some interesting ones: - I always assumed Robert was going opposite field more this year but thats not the case. He has actually been pulling the ball more (42.6%) compared to last year (32.8%). -His average exit velocity is up this year (90.2 vs 87.9) which is probably due to him hitting the sweet spot more (46% vs 36%). His launch angle is down which would explain only 1 home run, but hes been an extra base hit machine! -Robert has vastly improved on hitting breaking pitches. Last year he whiffed on 46.3% of breaking balls. 2021 has him at 34.5%. SIX of his extra base hits have come against breaking balls. -A similar improvement is happening with fastballs. He cut down on his whiffs by 13%. -His contact in the zone has increased by 20%, thats remarkable and supports the above. This is nice to couple with chasing less balls out of the zone (5%) -Teams are starting to throw him more changeups and other offspeed variants and that will be his next adjustment. As of now he is whiffing around 47% of the time on offspeed pitches. -He is murdering anything thats not on a corner, and hes torching balls up and away. You don't need the advanced stats to see that he has done a great job this year, hes passing the eye test with ease. I just love it when numbers tell us what our eyes have been seeing. I hate to see his offense being wasted in the 7 spot. He needs to be moved up. I used this site to look at his stats, fun to look through: https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/luis-robert-673357?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb3 points

Or you can acknowledge people are human and that when people are hurling vile insults about your kid at you you might get a little heated. FFS this happens in the NBA constantly and nothing ever comes of it. Lebron was just involved in an incident the other month. FWIW the overwhelming response on this on Twitter is to ban the fans from the stadium and that Kopech did nothing wrong. Only here is the bed wetting occurring, go figure.3 points

In all seriousness, if you want to max out the offense’s production you catch Yermin with Vaughn in LF and Eloy at DH. Honestly, I’m not sure Yermin would be much worse defensively at catcher than what we’ve seen from Grandal so far this season. 1. TA 2. Robert 3. Abreu 4. Eloy 5. Yermin 6. Moncada 7. Vaughn 8. Eaton 9. Madrigal I dare you to find a better lineup in MLB than that. That’s peak 90’s Indians shit right there.3 points

Agreed but Dunning also had nothing tonight. Not diminishing what the offense did but the guy we faced tonight from a stuff perspective isn't the guy we traded Eaton for or the guy the Rangers traded Lynn for. We caught him on a bad day.3 points

Last year the Sox finished 1st overall in fWAR generated from their position players and 11th overall in fWAR generated from their pitching. Some wrote it off as SSS and fluky because of the shortened season. Thing is, they’ve kept it up this season and so far are even more balanced ranking 4th and 5th, respectively. Earlier this week, fangraphs published their week 1 power rankings and listed the Sox with the second highest “team quality” in MLB behind only, you guessed it, the Dodgers. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/fangraphs-power-rankings-week-1/ Their record doesn’t reflect it yet this season but do we have the makings of an absolute juggernaut this season and beyond? The AL version of the Dodgers if you will.2 points

This is exactly why you don't hit your best hitter 7th with Robert and Grandal ahead of him. TLR is an old bag of garbage. Bring back Ricky. Should have been the Yerminator in that spot. At least Robert took the walk though and laid off some of the garbage after starting out chasing it.2 points

Nick Solak was a 50 grade speed guy and is 98th percentile in sprint speed according to Baseball Savant. Nick Madrigal had a 60 speed grade and is in the 77th percentile. I wonder how the scouts could have gotten it so wrong.2 points

Not trying to be a dick, but that’s because you and many others here are completely irrational when it comes to the main Soxtalk whipping boys like Yasmani & Madrigal. Everything is bad with these guys no matter what the numbers say.2 points

The bottom of the lineup can be quite pesky with Mercedes, Vaughn and Madrigal giving the pitcher quality AB's , drawing walks and hitting well with 2 strikes on them. I like the 3 of them in a row. Power with pain in the ass qualities.2 points

Kopech better get more thick skinned because now people will do it all the time now!2 points

People love Hendriks hooting and hollering when he gets a NON-SAVE out in the 8th inning, but Kopech can't show emotion when people are talking shit about his kid? Just lol2 points

I know it's difficult for a.DH to win this award, but I think youd have to give it to him. Plus, hes proven hes an effective pitcher as well.2 points

C'mon White Sox Dave. That's pathetic Pandering to the fanbase. The guy should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We are still in a pandemic. Here is this guy violating security and running around on the field without a mask. Maybe he's a bio-terrorist who the fuck knows. They should start putting up signs that say if you enter the field of play you will be tased and treated as a threat to national security and prosecuted to the full extent of the law and make that announcement before games also.2 points

It simpler terms, if Vaughn spends 15-20 days at any point in the season in AAA or the alt site, he will not accrue enough service time to be a FA after 6 seasons. Come up empty? The Sox own his rights thru 2026. Absolutely zero reason to extend him.2 points

A different player I would say no big deal. But Kopech in particular has to keep his mental approach to the job clean, otherwise it can affect his career. Obviously he has life issues to deal with, and should find ways to cope better.2 points

You can also just not acknowledge the fans doing the heckling like most other professional sports players.2 points

Our scouts never got the chance to see Tatis play and the team traded him without even having made a proper evaluation. Then with Yermin they all got to see tons of him but apparently they didn't think he was any better than the likes of Palka Reed Delmonico etc. I actually don't know which scenario is worse. Both are pretty harsh indictments of the org.2 points
-
Pal, you were in the game thread giving Tatis updates. It's OK if you just want to go be a Padres fan. You make excuses for the Padres failures while being hyper critical of the White Sox. I'm just trying to figure out which side you're on.2 points
