Just a reminder, but this is Dylan’s 33rd start. He basically has one years worth starts. He has also shown massive improvement vs. last year which is evident by a massive reduction in FIP (3.28 vs. 6.36), O-Zone swing % (31.4% vs. 22.2%), K % (32.0% vs. 17.3%), & Hard Hit Rate (32.9% vs. 40.9%). All in, he’s gone from being in the 5th percentile for xwOBA to the 74th heading into tonight. While he’s still a work in progress, both the stuff and command look way better than last year. Anyone suggesting he’s bad or will lose his job to Kopech soon simply doesn’t get that it takes time for young pitching to develop. To me, he looks like he can develop into a high end #3 starter with the upside for more. Let’s try not to overreact every bad inning or start while he’s on his way of getting there.6 points

This is a really really good team, they will be contenders for the next few years but guess what, we aren't gonna win every damn game. I hate reading negative comments, especially so early in a game. /rant Great game, let's do it again tomorrow!5 points

With 7 inning doubleheaders and Kopech able to start, the Sox are better constructed for doubleheaders than anybody else.5 points

So now you attempt to come off as smarter than me? It's these comments like "I'l try and make it simple for you." And "if you can't deal with that, I can't help you." Complete and total unnecessary crap. So many critics focus on things and claim they are "mistakes" when what they are are judgment calls. As I mentioned above, a judgment call is not necessarily a "mistake" and the alternative option wouldn't have necessarily worked out any better. What was a mistake, and was admitted to be one by TLR, was not knowing the rule about being able to substitute a runner for a pitcher in the 10th inning. But that was a new rule that many people might have missed, including the rest of the Sox coaching staff. It was also a mistake to leave in Foster too long in that one game, and Giolito against the Tigers when he was tiring. But none of those mistakes necessarily cost the Sox the game, even though they lost all 3. Meanwhile, do any of TLR's critics give him credit for anything he's done? He uses his entire club, for one. He's brought Vaughn along pretty well, letting him watch and learn while he eased him into the lineup. The Sox had Yermin Mercedes last year, but only TLR has used him. He put Danny Mendick in RF, and was quick to embrace Vaughn being able to play LF. There is zero evidence of any dissension in the clubhouse. He's been endorsed by all of the leaders of the team. The team is winning games and scoring runs near the top of the AL yet is last in HRs. Strikeouts are down; walks are up. The Sox have been in nearly every game. I don't think TLR is perfect, by any means. I expect TLR would give himself a middling grade so far on parts of his performance. But he's done pretty well overall, and has not let the loss of Jimenez and Robert derail the team at all.5 points

Electric game. 20-13 now with the best AL win %. Let's keep it going tomorrow, and put Jose in DH to give his calf a break.4 points

I kniw the final score is misleading since it was a close game throughout, but I love a blowout win after some posters threw in the towel in the second inning.4 points

That's fine and dandy but you manage a rebuilding team a lot different than you manage a contender. Also we do not know the status of his bullpen guys. He might have been trying to get Mize to fight through the inning for his development. Jerry Manuel used to get ripped for leaving Jon Garland in too long. Garland grew and got better, so when Ozzie left him him, the Ozzeroo was a genius. Besides, if you can't ever question LaRussa, how can you question Hinch? The Tony lovers don't even care if he doesn't know the rules.4 points

Here is what you can’t seem to understand. I’ll try and make it simple for you. Me being critical of Tony LaRussa doesn’t mean I think I could be a better baseball manager. Have you ever criticized a baseball player for his performance? If so...does that mean you think you can play better than him? There are 30 MLB Manager jobs. They aren’t easy to come by. Because they are so limited, I think it’s fair to have high expectations for the performance in said position. When someone in that position is continually making mistakes that an amateur can notice while they are happening..that deserves ridicule. Two things can be true at once. Tony LaRussa has won a lot of baseball games as a manager. He’s also making a lot of bad decisions for the White Sox at 76 years old. If you can’t deal with that, I can’t help you.4 points

1. The narrative that he's brought Vaughn on well is complete nonsense; Vaughn's numbers were as good after 6 games as they are today. Vaughn needed reps, this is baseball. Reps are what make you improve. You can't take "notes" about how to hit a curveball. Vaughn's approach never faltered yet he was on the bench for complete bums. 2. Yermin Mercedes was NOT on the White Sox last year so how the FFF could Ricky Renteria have played him? Managers don't make the rosters, they make the lineup. LaRussa is playing Yermin because the Sox lost their star OF'er and he was forced onto the roster. Even you could pencil Yermin into the lineup after he had an all-time historical hot start. 3. Danny Mendick has literally played like 1 game in RF because - again - the Sox have 1000 injuries and he was forced out there. 4. He didn't embrace Vaughn at all, he has no choice but to play him. He still continues to let terrible hitters hit late in games with much better hitters on the bench. If Hamilton is Vaughn's Designated Fielder late in games when defense matters, why the heck is Collins or Vaughn not Leury/Hamilton's designated hitter late in games when offense matters? 5. National reporters have reported dissension yet you bury your head in the sand and say "there is zero evidence." I am still, after 50 pages, waiting for something GOOD Tony LaRussa has done for this team.3 points

I think this is honestly just the MLB bullying Oakland into that proposal in Oakland3 points

Some posters have mentioned Tony's age on numerous occasions implying that his mental capacity is compromised. I guess some people here may not know much about Alzheimer's disease, have not had a loved one who suffered and/or died from it. Those of you who have know that is nothing to take lightly. Even short of that, there is no reason to throw someone's age around like it is a pejorative. We have had Justices sitting on the Supreme Court who have served into their 80's and three current Justices are over 70. These were and are people that had to grasp concepts that were far more complex than who's on Second. I want to believe that even the most aggressive criticisms directed toward Tony simply lack perspective, however, some of the repeated attacks begin to look like they are motivated by things like anger, arrogance and disrespect, and no one wants to be viewed that way. Ironically, Tony has the respect of his players and all of them appear to be following his leadership. I am not beyond criticizing a Sox Manager (or GM) and did so with Robin Ventura and Rick Hahn who sat back as the practice field and the Sox clubhouse spiraled out of control. I don't think anything like that is going to go down with LaRussa managing this team. The current Sox players respect him, believe in his abilities, and are playing well for him.3 points

Idk I just don't see how taking oakland and putting them in a smaller market is a good idea. The NFL works because the NFL could work anywhere in the country. NHL works because it doesn't require nearly the revenue to compete. And also the benefit of a miracle cup run. I'm just envisioning like 8,000 people a game, because where on the average person's vegas itinerary does taking in a baseball game come in?2 points

April 29. Sox vs Tigers 7 inning game Rodon looks borderline unhittable, but Tigers take a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth. Mize gives up a single to Jake Lamb (who, by the way, sucks at hitting) Mize then walks two consecutive hitters on only nine pitches to load the bases with no one out. Everyone in the park can see Mize has lost it. And with Rodon on fire, you have to stop this rally now. The manager, one A.J. Hinch (patron saint of all that is good in managing) chooses to leave Mize in. Billy Hamilton and Leury Garcia follow up by driving in three runs, effectively ending the game based on how Rodon is pitching. What a moron that A.J. Hinch must be, not recognizing that Mize had lost it so bad that the Tigers got beat by Lamb, Hamilton and Garcia. See how easy that is?2 points

If Abreu is MVP quality with Renteria managing and below average with Tony, and it's not Tony's fault, why is it all because of Tony if guys play better? It's almost if you hate Tony, he is responsible for all the bad and none of the good. If you like him, he is the reason for all of the good and none of the bad. I think if they had Lynn and this version of Rodon last season, Ricky would probably still be managing the team. Not that it's not good that he is gone. I don't buy Andrew Vaughn gained valuable knowledge riding pine. That's BS, and even those that are trying to spin it, know it.2 points
-
Vaughn has really surprised me with his athleticism. Actually looks good in the outfield and has made all the plays expected of him and then some. Not at all worried about his hitting for power. By mid-year, he will be killing it IMO.2 points

Correct. And none of us could ever be a reporter of Passan or Rosenthal's caliber, so if they're writing that the White Sox's locker room is questioning La Russa, who are we to question their reporting, using your logic? No one here thinks they could manage a major league team. They think there are people who could manage this team better than Tony La Russa.2 points
-
Since you want to yell... THIS IS LITERALLY NOT THE POINT, AND IT 100% DOES NOT MATTER. No one on this board is qualified to manage a major league baseball team. which has absolutely zero to the fact that neither is Tony LaRussa. Even if he was qualified, it still has nothing to do with anything, and is a worthless point. The only demeaning going on is people trying to associate laymen with actual baseball dugout staff. Also, if you were smart enough to realize it, you are admitting in your own post, by your own standards, that you aren't smart enough to comment about how good of a job that TLR is doing either, but has that stopped you from doing it? Nope.2 points

It’s baseball. Need to add an outfielder and a couple veteran bullpen arms, at the very least.2 points

Show one source that says Vaughn is happy to sit on the bench. Also it is just hilarious to see this from you. All you did last year was blast Renteria every single day. He was the reason for all the failings . Facts: 1. Renteria's team outperformed expectations by much more than this team is. Renteria had 2 starting pitchers last year too. 2. Everyone had fun on the team last year; in fact, you were mad because they were having "too much fun" but now fun is great according to you and a sign of great management. 3. TA danced last year, Moncada smiled last year, everyone who pitched out of the bullpen was lights out. Yet last year all you did everyday was rip the manager. Now this year? Complete opposite and here you are citing reasons that were prevalent last year when you demanded the managers head.2 points
