  1. Why does it matter if we know the lady? They did it as a showing of thanks to an incredibly loyal employee. No one would expect the average fan to know, but I'm sure as shit it meant a lot to that lady and there really was no reason to change it. Life isn't always, or even mostly, about the big stuff. It is the little things that show respect, appreciation and kindness that matter the most. This was a little thing that likely meant a lot to someone, while that sign means jack shit to TLR, so why change it? The fact that you can't understand that isn't surprising, but it doesn't make it meaningless because you think it is.

  2. We already had “The Cuban Babe Ruth” in Viciedo. And Ohtani was “The Japanese Babe Ruth” before he came from Japan. Now Colas is “The Cuban Ohtani” So doing the math, I think we’re signing the Japanese Dayan Viciedo.

  3. What has he done well? Manage the starters? Not really. Even though they've been great. Manage the bullpen? No. Shifts? Absolutely not. Lineups? Uh, no. Pinch hitting? Nope. Giving away outs by being one of a handful of managers in baseball that doesn't understand why sac bunts are trash? Bingo!

  4. Thanks. Guess I should've been searching for "web gem" instead of "horrific injury"

  5. Good thing Ricky can’t hold Tony‘s jockstrap when it comes to managing a clubhouse. Remember the endless controversies and reports about the player‘s growing tired of him? Oh wait…

  8. 1st inning (Soxtalk) - Cease looks awful. Can't locate anything. 2nd inning (Soxtalk) - Cease looks fantastic. Locating well on those breaking pitches.

  10. Nah, you were blasting the manager for lineups and bullpen decisions, two things you argue now are completely meaningless with LaRussa in charge. Another hypocritical LaRussa stan. Not that I'm shocked. Good call on Renteria never making the playoffs. Really hit that one out the park?

  12. So you don't have an answer? I'm discussing his strengths and weaknesses. He's doing nothing well, and I haven't seen a single one of his supporters cite anything but "he's a hall of fame baseball person".

  13. I mean, multiple times he has left his starter in too long.... It's really not all that difficult to know when to pull a starter. Especially when they are over 100 pitches. He does nothing well. He's a fucking caricature, who routinely gets in the way of the team's success. Sox would be better if he just napped all game.

  20. Tony bunted Hamilton to third. Sac fly drove him in. Sox won 2-1. Benetti questioned the move in real time, then said nothing when the run scored and the Sox won because of it. LaRussa started Lamb against the wishes of many posters. Lamb jacked a home run in the fiirst inning and scored another run. Tony put Hamilton in to LF for defense and he threw a runner out at home, preserving a Sox win. You can list any number of good and bad decisions a Manager makes. There are hundreds every week. Players who defy Managers and show up late for games have to be disciplined. Ask St. Louis fans what they think of some of Shilton's decisions in the series against the White Sox. At the end of the day, the anti-LaRussa schtick won't amount to a good gaddamn but it will make you miserable though if you allow it to.

  21. Look at the batting averages of our outfielders and catchers. Our bullpen has been spotty. We have to be happy where we are at in the standings despite player injuries and under-performance. I credit Tony LaRussa a lot for keeping this team in win mode.

  22. This is just straight up dumb. We all watch the games and can point to numerous things Tony has done wrong this year. We don’t need to be in the clubhouse to witness poor in-game decision making. Also, there have been reports of some clubhouse tension as result of Tony beyond the public ripping of a top rookie. You keep using “decades of experience” as a free pass for him to whatever he wants and it being ok, which is also incredibly dumb given how much the game has changed since he last managed. Tony La Russa is objectively a bad manager at this stage of his career. Unless you can cite some actual good things he’s done, then please stop defending him because your current defense is quite embarrassing.

  23. It’s hilarious that’s the best the LaRussa stans can do. They spend more time complaining about posters who are picking on LaRussa than the posters who are actually calling out LaRussa. And when you challenge them on “Why do you like LaRussa, what has he done well?” The answer is “I mean, I can’t really point to anything specific, but if this team wins, he’ll have done great. If they lose in the playoffs, I hope he’s gone.” Just a ringing endorsement for someone they spend hours a day defending. And again...I’ll point out just because: 2021: 47 games...28 -19 2020: 47 games...31-16

  24. Well, for the managing that starters part - I can think of one time he didn't pull Giolito when he should have. Not enough in my book to give him a demerit, especially when the rotation is pitching so great (even though that is apparently irrelevant to you, its not to me). I think he's managed the bullpen poorly in some cases, but I've never seen a Sox manager in my lifetime that I thought did a good job there, I don't think most fans of any team are usually happy with their bullpen management. When bullpen moves blow up in your face, every fan remembers it. When things go fine, nobody says boo. I have no complaint with his lineups whatsoever. Especially now that Robert and Eloy are both gone. He's playing the players who he has. At the end of the day, he will be judged by the team's success. If they do well and make a deep run in the playoffs, I'll say he did a good job managing the team. If not, hopefully he won't be brought back. I'm not in the clubhouse so I can't really say what strengths he is bringing to the table. You're not there so you can't either, you can only critique his moves from the couch. And to be clear, bullpen management and pinch hitting are two areas I've found myself in disagreement with.

  25. That situation applies to the 3rd out. If the 3rd out is a force at 1st, the inning is over, and no other action counts.

  26. Someone also pointed out yesterday that he's our 4th best hitter this month. Sure he's not hitting for power but you can also chalk that up to his 2-strike approach.

  31. Just saw a story on MLB.com about Javier Baez pulling a run out of thin air in today's game, that's why why they call him "El Mago". I watched the video and a more appropriate summary is "Pirates 1B Will Craig is an idiot."

  32. I think it's been nice to just know the numbers have been gradually going down but today's numbers in IL were just 1.3% positives (897 cases out of 67k specimens). The 7-day positivity rate is now below 2%. Add to that IL is now up to 67% with first dose and staying pretty close to 70k/day.

  34. I’ve always been an intangibles guy but since this offseason it’s just been so obvious that our WAR totals are going to dwarf most other teams’. When you have one of the top players in the league at almost every position 1-26,27,28 etc….you’re going to beat everybody. That’s why it’s so dumb to get mad when we lose games The talent is just ridiculous here. Anybody who’s getting all pissy every time we lose or TLR does something, just go look at any other roster. I beg you to go try to find a team you’d rather trade places with. You can’t. And if you can, it’s one of the other top teams. We’re a top team. Tip top.

  35. The general expert consensus remains "lab leak is technically possible but a highly unlikely source; we don't currently and will likely never have enough information to conclusively rule it out. Natural origin remains the most likely explanation" and "human-engineered source is extremely, extremely unlikely and we can tell that from DNA sequencing lacking any signatures of human manipulation." I'm not sure what's driving the spin-up of all the lab-leak hypothesizing in the media lately, but it's not like there's been any new findings one way or the other on that front. e: if you want to listen to a discussion/interview between virologists including some who are doing the WHO investigations into the origins of SARS-CoV2, you can watch/listen here: I do think it's funny that someone said China values the lives of their people less, given that they had a few thousand deaths while other countries that had powerful politicians insist it was "just the flu" and "would be gone by Easter (2020)" have had hundreds of thousands of deaths.

  36. I think Hamilton sticks around until Robert is back. I originally said I thought they would send Mendick down when Engel is back, but now I think Eaton might go on the IL so Mendick will get another 10 days, but Mendick having options and batting righty probably means he goes first. Not what I would do, but what I think happens.

  38. Why do you have a profile photo of... a baseball manager? The worship of baseball managers by some people is so strange to me. They are one of the least important coaches in all of sports. A good manager is worth, what? 2-3 wins in an entire season? The biggest thing for a baseball team is not having a BAD manager. As a bad manager can consistently cost you games with their stupidity... See: Tony La Russa thus far in 2021. A manager on a talented baseball team just needs to use common sense and stay the fuck out of the way. TLR can't even accomplish that. Shifts are basically all dictated to you by a fucking computer, and TLR can't even get those right. Hell, most of the time they don't shift at all. What does he actually do WELL? Aside from give away outs.

  39. It’s more of a picnic table-like setting. There’s about 8 tables that could fit 4 adults or 6 kids. It’s usually families with kids or grandparents sitting there eating. Hard to find a seat pregame but they’re usually open during the game. It’s to the north of the LF foul pole. It’s now a story on CBS News https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2021/05/26/white-sox-drop-concession-worker-loretta-micele-name-lounge/ While I love the idea of a La Russa-themed section of the ballpark, I actually felt a little sick to my stomach seeing them change this section. Loretta was a White Sox legend working for 70 years - it’s employees and parts of the ballpark like Loretta’s Lounge that make the organization feel family-oriented. I remember another usher, an older lady of (I think) Pacific Islander heritage with grey hair, who was my favorite growing up at games. I loved how quiet and nice she was and always made sure to buy from her. I also went to a Cubs game and she ushered there too. I haven’t seen her at a game in over 10 years, unfortunately.

  43. What an insanely incompetent business decision. What is the upside here? Where are fans asking for this? How is this going to affect anything related to sales or fan loyalty at all? Regardless of how you feel about TLR, taking the risk of exactly this type of blowback for no potential benefit whatsoever is inexplicably moronic.
