  1. TLR is going to look hilarious wearing this.

  4. It should be pretty obvious to any moral person why this is so offensive. The people like the food service workers, vendors, attendants, cleaning crews, security guards, etc. make the park a place to go. These people all come first, even below the players. The actual chain of importance is essential facility support workers > players > front office staff > ownership. Literally, no single person would ever attend a ballpark if there weren't security guards or bathroom cleaning staff. Then after that comes the food service workers, etc. MiLB baseball is proof that you can still draw fans to a baseball game even if nobody in attendance knows any of the players on the field or gives a fuck about either team, the score, or who wins or loses. So these people are pretty important. They are paid the least of all and a tiny fraction of what the players, FO and ownership all make. They do thankless work and are rarely recognized for anything. What is important here is gesture that the sign naming is supposed to represent. The dorf is a POS scumbag to me regardless, but it's at least a nice gesture to make a statement that these workers are important, whether the Sox org actually treats these people decently compared to others in sports or not. The sign being named after a concessions worker is a statement that these people are actually important. It's fine to change the name to another concession worker, or name it after all of the concession workers, or name it after some long-time security guard or something like that, etc., as long as it is still being used as a gesture to pay homage to this level of worker. But withdrawing that gesture and naming it after yet another player/manager/coach/owner etc. like everything else is a scumbag move and completely unnecessary. It's basically saying "We really don't think it is important to pay tribute to this class of ballpark employee anymore." That's the statement they are making whether anyone involved is of enough moral status to be aware of it or not. The TLR is a totally different side of this. It doesn't matter who they named it after. You can name any other unnamed part of the park after TLR if you really think you need to, or you can name it after TA or Abreu, or someone else, and that is fine. But taking down a sign that stands as a statement of appreciation for the lowest-paid class of ballpark employee to name that area after any of those guys is a scumbag move. As an aside, I bet if you asked around the clubhouse privately whether the players thought this was a dirty move and were for or against it, overwhelmingly it would be considered dirty and overwhelmingly they would be against it.

  5. I thought it was a pretty cool way to honor an employee. The Sox have historically not been known for much in the positive camp, but working for them is supposed to be a very good thing. They are supposed to take care of their own. I know the significant portion of the people who don't understand why this would upset people are here because Tony's name got attached to this, but it shouldn't matter whose name got put on the sign. It sounds like the team didn't do a good job of communicating with this family about this change. That is where the problem is/was. Once this did break, the team did what they could to involve the family and try to fix the matter. People need to separate out TLR from this and imagine how it would look if you loved on gave their life to an organization, they were honored, and then quietly dumped (in their perspective). The TLR angle just brought a crowd into this subject who can't be rational anyway and distracted from the real issue.

  6. Every day people just have to b**** about the lineup. a) we don't know the health of these players day to day b) it's going to be patchwork all the way until Eloy and Robert get back.

  7. I don't know where to put this. At times there is a lot of back and fort on this board. I'm definitely guilty of a negative attitude at times myself. That said ,I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend in whatever they're doing. Go sox!!!

  8. No, this should NOT be the new black alternates. Don't give Nike any ideas.

  11. I’m not sure why they even felt compelled to make this name change. It’s not like this a tribute to LaRussa like it was a tribute to the long time employee. It’s just putting his name out there for the sake of putting his name out there. A worthwhile tribute is like naming the broadcast booth after Hawk or the organist booth after Nancy Faust. The difference is those two served the Sox organization very well for a long time. The same cannot be said about LaRussa in a Sox uniform. So why reverse the lovely gesture acknowledging the long term employee when you could slap LaRussa’s name on any number of other generic things in the park if you felt the need to add his name somewhere? Put his name on something that doesn’t already have a name on it. I hope they quietly find a way to put Loretta’s name back up on the lounge while rethinking the need to add LaRussa’s name anywhere.

  12. If it was enough to outrage when it was changed, although the plaque remains, it should have been something that was at least mentioned . It never was. I have literally been in that park over 1,000 times, and I had heard about it. Saw the name Loretta's Lounge, thought it was a nice thing. I saw the LaRussa's Lounge this season, couldn't remember it was Loretta's Lounge. I don't like Tony LaRussa, but this really is much ado about nothing. She had her name on a sign for years, and she still will be recognized. If this pisses someone off so much, they are just looking for things to piss them off.

  13. I mean, this is "so White Sox." It's such an unnecessary, unforced error. I can't think of anyone who would have wanted the name change. And, while one could argue exactly how much outrage to have, it was clearly unwise to undo a nice gesture to a loyal worker. These sorts of decisions do not reflect positively on the organization . Just so unnecessary, IMO.

  14. Fake outrage over fake outrage knows no bounds. Did I do it right? It's a really easy/lazy game to play, but by all means wear that cynicism proud!

  15. I know it is unpopular, but I hate the 1983 jerseys. I hated them then, I hate them know. The block SOX logo is awful. I like the batter logo that the subbed in on the recent version, but the originals were just bleh. By far the worst of any of the logos the Sox have had.

  16. You needing to go out of your way to attack Mercedes at every opportunity whenever TLR gets criticized even when it's completely irrelevant is beyond pathetic.
    3 points
  17. I’m not even outraged over this, but I find your undeterred hatred of Mercedes for swinging 3-0 when way up and for wearing too many gold chains to be quite bizarre. Then again, you are the same person who has a creepy infatuation with Zach Plesac and has defended him for going out during a pandemic and putting his high risk coach & teammate in danger. Your morals really are something tray.

  19. There is a real monument to the women in recognition of her service in the park. Something that actually notes her service not a non-descript sign that every person that ever saw it except for a handful knew what it was. If you are going to bash Reinsdorf on this topic....and there are plenty other topics to bash him on......you are 1000% in the wrong. He named the Bulls workout facility after an employee. When notified of this situation the White Sox acknowledged the miscommunication with the family and addressed it. There really is nothing more to this story except to those that want to b**** and moan.

  20. Why does it matter if we know the lady? They did it as a showing of thanks to an incredibly loyal employee. No one would expect the average fan to know, but I'm sure as shit it meant a lot to that lady and there really was no reason to change it. Life isn't always, or even mostly, about the big stuff. It is the little things that show respect, appreciation and kindness that matter the most. This was a little thing that likely meant a lot to someone, while that sign means jack shit to TLR, so why change it? The fact that you can't understand that isn't surprising, but it doesn't make it meaningless because you think it is.

  21. Or are they just trying to pass out bobble heads, sell some shit, and then send everyone home before announcing a straight dh tomorrow?

  22. I love Moncada, but I hope that while he is sitting on the bench tonight, he remembers what a bad approach he had in 2018, when he did not utilize a "protect" mode, with 2 strikes. He has been reverting to that practice again, lately. Sometimes it appears that he is his own worst enemy. A hitter cannot leave his fate in the hands of the plate umpire, once he has 2 strikes. He has to try to stay "alive," by fighting off close pitches, hoping for a pitcher to make a mistake. It's maddening to watch him take called third strikes. I'm sure that he has been taught better, but for some reason, he has the bad habit of not swinging, as a hitter might, with a 3 and 1 count.

  24. Heck yeah - Cease with a career high in pitch count - stepped up with some big pitches in that last inning. Pen was excellent and Mercedes delivered in clutch today. Vaughn, Madrigal, Hamilton and Vaughn all with good games too. Nice win.

  25. Meh, I don't see any evidence of this, at least not outside of fox/oan/other bullshit networks. And even if fox/oan/other bullshit members of "the media" want to criticize "the media," maybe others would take them at their word if they weren't 100% water-carriers for that administration. Maybe that administration shouldn't have spent 3+ years telling lies. When a person gets a reputation for, like, literally bullshitting about, like, EVERYTHING, it makes it less likely that others will take them at their word. IOW, maybe there is/was a consequence to lying, "alternative facts," and bullshit. If they'd been more about the truth, then maybe "the media" might have been more willing to accept what they were saying. YMMV.

  26. So, you watched sky news Australia, AKA another Murdock turd that exists to lead the naive and the stoopud around by the balls? Greg, we've covered this already. If you really want to make your life better, reduce your intake of outright shit. Stop feeding your brain bullshit. And just reduce your intake of "news." Here's a thought for you: 1. Cut your consumption of "news" to 1x/day, for less than 30 min/day. 2. Read books, especially non-partisan books, and avoid partisan bullshit. 3. Get some exercise everyday. 4. Meet and connect with people who are different from you, especially successful people who come from a different background from you. If you do this, your life and your mind and your mentality will greatly improve. You won't be able to recognize yourself, and it'll be for the better. I believe there's a happy, well-adjusted, good guy in there somewhere. You just need to unleash this. Good luck.

  27. Man, they are gonna look awesome playing in the MTV Rock n Jock game.

  28. Yeah, but not every nice gesture is considered newsworthy in our society. Sometimes you can just nod in agreement or silently think something is cool instead of needing to share it with the internet. On the other hand, a reversal of a nice gesture by an organization in the spotlight is an odd move that's going to get some attention.

  29. How many people knew the story of Loretta's Lounge before the complaints started? I don't recall one post before this was changed what a nice gesture it was to name a lounge after a dedicated food service employee. They kept the plaque. Will give the family a sign. For anyone this is bothering, it's time to let it go.

  30. Teams are becoming more and more risk averse at the top of the draft and hitters are seen as much safer picks. In my world Leiter is the best player in this draft and it's not particularly close.

  31. I am with you. The '83 jerseys are awful and only remind me of the playoff loss to the Orioles. The Southside one is unique.

  33. They really should rotate the Sunday jerseys and just do Throwback sunday. They have so many jerseys throughout their history - just update them so they actually fit the players (and maybe ditch terrible collars) and don't look completely ridiculous.

  36. Oh well, if a greasy burgur can be named after an obese player, then why not hang a sign with the name of a guy who had a DUI in an area where someone might carry a beer and sit down? Fake outrage knows no bounds.

  37. Yeah, I was hinting at the, if I remember correctly, Yearnin' and Squirmin' for Yermin. I'll admit I was skeptical of how good Yermin would be. He's been a pleasant surprise, even since cooling down after an incredible start. I don't think it's ridiculous to assume he'll end up being a .290 hitter with 25+ HRs. He'll come close to filling the offensive hole left by the late Eloy. And, as an added bonus, he pissed of LaRussa AND is still in the lineup every day.

  40. We already had “The Cuban Babe Ruth” in Viciedo. And Ohtani was “The Japanese Babe Ruth” before he came from Japan. Now Colas is “The Cuban Ohtani” So doing the math, I think we’re signing the Japanese Dayan Viciedo.

  41. Nah, you were blasting the manager for lineups and bullpen decisions, two things you argue now are completely meaningless with LaRussa in charge. Another hypocritical LaRussa stan. Not that I'm shocked. Good call on Renteria never making the playoffs. Really hit that one out the park?

  42. This organization is so damn clueless, top to bottom. If we are EVER lucky enough to get rid of the douchcanoe in charge, it won't be fast enough. Sad that there are basically no owners of sports organizations I hate more, than our own owner.

  43. Marshall & Ruiz are out of options, so Foster is probably more likely at this time. That being said, it wouldn’t be a bad time to send down Crochet and get him some actual innings. He’s on pace for ~43 innings this year which means there is zero chance he‘ll be a starting pitching option until 2023 at the very earliest.

  44. Jerry manual managed the sox for 6 years and won a division title and 95 games. Most successful coaches in Sox history lol

  45. He's definitely missing the point. That's fine he doesn't care. It's not up to him to decide for other people. Not only that , they dedicated it to that lady. What exactly did she do to deserve to lose it. At the very least it's bad taste in my opinion. If that's ok with certain people on here.
    2 points
  46. Why do YOU care? This was a very nice gesture from the org that I'm sure she and her family/friends greatly appreciated. Tony doesn't even know it's there.

  47. What an insanely incompetent business decision. What is the upside here? Where are fans asking for this? How is this going to affect anything related to sales or fan loyalty at all? Regardless of how you feel about TLR, taking the risk of exactly this type of blowback for no potential benefit whatsoever is inexplicably moronic.
