Will be there tonight sitting right behind home plate First game since 2019, hopefully a winner I really hate the Astros5 points
-
It's almost like nobody watched the Sox struggle to find cheap 1-2 WAR players for a decade. You know why the Sox have a .632 win percentage? Because they have a lot of Danny Mendicks, finally.5 points
-
The most impressive thing is that he has an ERA of 0.0 AND 0.38. That’s tough to do.5 points

Sox really don't need to have urgency. These next four with the Astros are big of course. After that, the Sox schedule leading up the ASB is 18 games against awful teams (current winning percentage rank in parenthesis). 2 @ PIT (28th) 3 vs. SEA (18th) 4 vs. MIN (26th) 3 @ DET (23rd) 3 @ MIN (26th) 3 @ BAL (29th) Meanwhile Cleveland's July is 4 vs. Houston 3 @ Tampa 4 vs. KC 3 @ Oakland 3 @ Houston 4 vs. Tampa 2 vs. STL Then they come to Chicago last weekend of July. If the Sox handle their business, they should be several games up on Cleveland going into the All Star Break. The Indians will have their ace, #3 starter, catcher on the shelf. Their #5 starter has already been a disaster before Pleasac/Bieber injuries. JMO, but I get the feeling these substance bans are going to have a particular effect on Cleveland. Cleveland has the lowest payroll in baseball. They have Jose Ramirez under control for 2 years after this year through team options. They also have Eddie Rosario, Bryan Shaw, Cesar Hernandez and Roberto Perez as either free agents or guys under control in 2022 only if CLE flexes the club option. If you know anything about the Indians owner, you know that he wouldn't hate it if the Sox tore through their schedule and the Indians got swept the through the first week of July. He can then cash in on Ramirez for a significant package and sell off their other expiring contracts and potentially getting something for them instead of letting their value expire with an ~85-86 win team with very limited upside. Sox should be able to walk through the next 5 weeks and find themselves in a better position than they are today. The type of players that Sox are going to acquire are still going to be available in the July 20's and up to the deadline. Sox best move right now is 100% to hang tight and see where they are at. See what Mendick can do. Call up Fry. See if Burr/Ruiz can continue to get guys out. See if Heuer/Foster have their bad luck turn around. See how Eloy/Robert recover. See if any other key players get hurt. Sox are sitting pretty right now. Urgency would be a bad thing.4 points

Could simply be posturing, in order not to lose too much leverage in bargaining. It also shows confidence in the guys on the roster. There is no point letting the other GM's know that you're desperate for reinforcements, not that it's any secret.4 points

Seeing Sox players fail isn't a good thing. You aren't a real fan if you take this much joy in it.3 points

they honestly were bound for a game like this. and you knew the Astros would be motivated with Bregman hitting the shelf for a while. Get em tomorrow. Pitching matchups look solid for rest of series and they definitely can score some runs tonight to get the taste of Cease out. All good. One game changes nothing.3 points

Don't rule out Keuchel's vesting option hitting for 2023 ? I agree and good point. Seriously without extra innings you can lose your DH and still pinch hit your way through the game. Sox should be playing Collins against righties more. While Abreu has come a long way defensively at 1B and really is a source of comfort over there, putting Yaz at 1B and Abreu at DH when Collins catches against RHP is the best course for the team. Sox checked in with Baltimore on Santander when Robert went down.3 points

So the solution is trading all of the young starting pitching.3 points
-
The problem with Frazier is that he's been good for about 220 at bats of his entire career.3 points
-
Why not? He has three pitches and has shown an ability to maintain velocity into the 35-40 pitch count. Build up that arm strength and it goes further.3 points
-
burr got through the inning.. but he was about a 2 feet away from a 2 run home run.. and then with a runner on 3rd the dude hit a missile but luckily right at the outfielder.. it was lucky.3 points
-
Nah, doesn't work like that. Actively rooting for your own players to fail because they are boisterous and wear gold chains is just a trope. It's garbage. The fact that you are enjoying it and bragging about it is all that needs to be said. Your "defense" of it is about as good as Yermins defense ironically.2 points
-
You're arguing with yourself. We all know he sucks now. We're just annoyed you keep repeating the same bs over and over.2 points
-
Watching the Eloy play again where he jumps into the net he Does so many things wrong on that play- They teach you in a little league not to have your gloves stretched out while you’re running to the ball- he also takes a bad route to the ball- plus he is slow as shit. No he should never played outfield ever ever again2 points
-
I don't think the concern is with the loss. It is more with the dependability of Cease.2 points
-
After these 4 games, the Sox go into the ASB with 2 vs Pittsburgh, 3 vs Seattle, 7 vs Minnesota, 3 vs Detroit and 3 vs Baltimore. They'll be fine2 points
-
Not sure what any of that has to do with my point on fly ball judgment between the two announcers, but you do you boo.2 points

The Astros are already pissing me off in this game with their competence. Can these fuckers just throw one into a dugout or something2 points
-
Looks like you can - he just said it and nobody commented but you. I can say it too: Mercedes sucks right now. It's not a secret2 points
-
I mean you nailed it in the previous post. Now that Vaughn is a competent LF that changes Eloy's role. Eloy can just focus on keeping healthy and hitting. We don't need him out there turning doubles into "inside the park HR" and hurting himself -- let him just hit.2 points

No one is going to come out and publicly state that Eloy is getting demoted while he is still rehabbing. No one in the Sox organization is that dumb, well at least in upper management. But it should be really obvious that the fact that Andrew Vaughn can pay a passable LF means the Sox have options they didn't think they had 3 months ago, and those will have an effect going forward. Now whether that means Eloy goes to DH, or the Sox go with Eloy/Robert/Vaughn from left to right remains to be seen. It also could mean that Vaughn gets left, a new RF gets brought in, and again Eloy demotes to DH. But it should be really obvious that it is NOT a slam dunk that Eloy is the starting LF on Opening Day 2022.2 points

Sox have to be getting to the point where they realize that Rutherford just ain’t worth a damn. He was below average in AA, not sure what Sox expected to see when they moved him to Charlotte.2 points
-
Easily. Eloy is impressively -16 runs in about 160 games in LF. Vaughn is on pace for about -7 over 160 games. It's position adjusted so you get a ding for starting in LF but Eloy is a very bad LF. Vaughn is probably about average relative to other LF.2 points

I dont want Frazier, because I too think that he absolutely will turn into a turd the second he's moved. Also, in watching the Will Craig Moronathon Play, Frazier didn't exactly distinguish himself as a leader in the IF, and he didn't exactly make a strong effort on that play, either. Basically, I think Frazier might be too stupid, and/or too lazy, and/or too careless to be on a contending team.2 points
-
Eaton has been absolutely dreadful, Sox need to upgrade RF more than they need to upgrade 2B.2 points

No it is because we have elite starting pitching. If our pitching was above average, we'd be tied with Cleveland at least. If we have a lot of Mendicks wouldn't that mean we are capable of finding more if we traded him? Hell, Mendick won't be on the roster when we get guys back.2 points
-
Brutal. You're trading a cost controlled totally cromulent 1.5-2.5 WAR SS/2B for a rental. That would be such a shitty trade. That's the sort of dumbass trade that got the sox into a rebuild or signing the Emilio Bonifacios of the world.2 points
-
He's been a below average major leaguer every year but one of his career. You cannot guarantee me that he's better than Danny Mendick so why would I trade anything that could ever even be a MLB player for him?2 points

Oh we have another Hahn catch phrase to throw around : “We’ve talked all along about making sure the juice is worth the squeeze. The juice this year may be a team that’s capable of winning it all. That’s pretty big juice. Is the squeeze going to be worth it to increase those chances?” Is the juice worth the squeeze ? Definitely. As my old man used to say " Who does he think he is kidding" or "You can't bullshit a bullshitter". I find it highly unlikely that they went through the rebuild only to decide at every trade deadline that they won't do anything. Of course they proved me wrong last year by not doing anything and surprisingly fans bought it as "we weren't ready" . This is the biggest carrying water for management BS I have ever seen. There is no excuse not to make every effort to improve a playoff caliber team into a World Series type team or at least at capable of advancing a round or 2. I'll always wonder how much more Texas was asking before the trade deadline last year and what they eventually settled on for Lynn. The Sox have needs in the BP and on the field . The only thing stopping the Sox from making deals would be Reinsdorf. The starting pitching staff is the best and cheapest it will ever be. This year is possibly the Sox best chance to win the World Series in the window because we are already nearly halfway there. Get the pieces you need and quit screwing around with the fans heads and pocketbooks.2 points

I like most of this and especially Mercedes losing his automatic entry into the lineup. However, Engel is our best all-around outfielder at this point and should be the everyday centerfielder IMO.2 points

Yermin in March/April - .415 Yermin in May .221 Yermin in June .146 He'll be in the Japanese league Home Run Derby next year at this rate.2 points

Williams and Paddy were on the Tatis bandwagon, since they were the ones most closely connected to the signing as well as Tatis, Sr. Who has been the White Sox GM since 2013? In fact, Shields finished with a 6.77 ERA over 22 starts for the White Sox, and Chicago ended with a 78-84 record in what would be Robin Ventura’s last year as manager. With each powerfully furious step Tatis Jr. made through the Padres’ system, this deal became tougher and tougher to forget. “Yeah, yeah,” said Hahn with a resigned smile of the deal being frequently discussed. “I’m aware of that. Looking at Tatis, I view that as a great success for our international scouting program. Work that Marco Paddy and his people did to identify him and acquire him should be commended. Although he was only with us for roughly a year or so, the work that our player-development people did with him was very good as well. And there were people in the organization who spoke highly of his potential. “No one went into that deal ignorant of what this kid could possibly turn into,” Hahn said. “At the same time, the decision to make that trade was motivated by elements within the organization we are trying to avoid as we complete this rebuild, as we get to the other side of the rebuild.” https://www.mlb.com/news/rick-hahn-looks-back-on-trade-of-fernando-tatis-jr1 point

If it is a severe sinus infection they have him on some strong medication which is not going to allow him to do much of anything ley alone play baseball.1 point

What is happening with this team is pretty amazing. The injuries could have wrecked us, but the organization keeps bringing up and bringing in players that step right in and make plays. Time to give a shit ton of credit to this staff.1 point
