  1. You’re completely missing the point. They aren’t going to be facing teams like Pittsburgh and Detroit in the playoffs. At some point they are going to have to beat the top tier teams consistently.

  2. WTF? Ncorgbl? Sure, let’s bring up peoples’ wives, incel guy. Personal attacks are apparently now encouraged. It’s okay, nobody cares because this game is already a debacle as is. But the guy with 670 posts living next to the Weavers in Idaho is qualified to make comments on White Sox fans. Change your name many times? Did you take out Liptak and assume his identity?

  3. Funny, last year Rizzo complained that it wasn’t safe for players to have to sit around together in the locker room during a pandemic to wait out a rain delay. Now it’s ok for him to be in the same locker room and not be vaccinated?

If it happens again, someone else will have to post the games cause ya know it was my fault. Lambert for Charlotte

  9. Not a bad thing that the Astro's are exposing the Sox in this series. It just shows Hahn he needs to go out and get the two or three missing pieces this team still needs.

  10. Exactly. He's trying to convince the stoopid public that he's not "anti-vax," when if fact he is. And a high school graduate asking to "see more data?" Fucking laughable. A wise man goes where others have trod before him. And that's why one should get his/her medical advise from a medical doctor, not some asshole with a bow tie on Fox or from farcebook. I know of very few MDs that would advise against the vaccine, and that's only in very limited circumstances. So him citing his doctors seems another load of bullshit. Its cool though, and its his right to refuse. But he would have been better off just stating that it was his preference, not some pile of bullshit excuses hes ginned up. I hope it goes well for him.

  12. It's data from the entire year. He's hitting .150 against fastballs 95+. He's normally well above .300 against those.

  13. Jose vs. fastballs over 95 MPH this year: .158 BA and .237 SLG. Jose vs. fastballs over 95 MPH last year: .371 BA and .857 SLG. Jose vs. fastballs over 95 MPH in 2019: .348 BA and .623 SLG. It's night and day really.

  17. I've said to anyone listening that the run differential this year plus and some of the pitching excellence including last years reliever kiddie corp was due to poor competition and that the lack of power and hitting against RHP would hurt us against better teams. I'll throw in lack of versatility for those who clamor for Schwarber when Escobar not only can play 2nd in place of Mendick but could also replace Moncada should he get injured. We become much better if Eloy and Robert return to form. But in the meantime the sooner we get Escobar's power against both RH and LH pitching and some relief help the better. If those things happen there's still a good shot at the pennant and home field advantage in the playoffs.

  18. It’s not a slump though, we were playing over our heads. The holes in the lineup are going to sink this team if they don’t make some moves. injuries were just brutal this year, we have to do something now can’t wait until august for Eloy and Robert

  27. I think you're one of the more thoughtful posters here, and I respect that. But, I think you're overlooking the Coors Field-like YAWNING gap between Beckham's Home/Away splits. Its laughably easy to hit well in Truist Field, but much less so away from there. To wit, Beckham's Home OPS this season: A MIGHTY .909; Beckham's Away OPS this season: A putrid .706. SOURCE Since he won't have the laughably easy task of hitting against Reynaldo Lopez-quality pitching opposition at a Coors Field-like setting if he were to be called up, I would imagine that Beckham's OPS would be more likely to be the putrid .706 OPS. [Likely, even less than that, since he'd be hitting against better opposition than he's seen in the IL.] His splits aside, his OBP is sub .300 overall. Vs. AAAA types and Reynaldo Lopez-types and other walk machines. What would his OBP be in MLB? Sub .250? Beckham's OBP in AAA is less than Seby Zavala's. It's less than Zach Remillard's OBP. IMO, Tim Beckham isn't any sort of solution, although if he were, it would solve a lot of issues this TDL.

  29. Not Cishek deleted his tweet about Escobar trade not being announced late at night the day he had off, because it wasn't a big enough trade. He also has a tweet we're his"source" asked him to remove a few tweets so he or she would stay out of trouble. He obviously had zero info on this, and even if he was telling the truth, that would mean his source has dried up. He would have been better off just telling the world he was wrong.

  34. And that’s fine if they didn’t want to wait, but ultimately no one should be surprised when Eaton misses a ton of games or ends up being inefficient as the season wears down. His body simply can’t endure a full season and remain productive. Honestly, it’s just frustrating we’ve had this massive hole in RF for two straight years and now will have to trade away prospects to fill it.

  35. Hate being that guy, but it’s time bump this thread and realize what a disaster the Adam Eaton signing was. A ton of great takes in this thread, with so many people knowing from the get go this wasn’t likely going to work out for us. I’ll give the Sox credit for their other offseason moves, which have seemingly worked out well, but the inability to address RF over the past several seasons is a major failure for Hahn. Meanwhile, Joc Pederson has a wRC+ of 130 against RHP, which is not too far off his 2018 & 2019 production. We wouldn’t need to trade from a weak farm system to solve the RF problem had we just waited him out. The team would also be in much better shape against RHP with Joc’s left-handed power bat. Pederson was always the perfect fit for a team looking to fill a key hole the cheap and we somehow botched. Finally, the real reason I’m bumping my post is because of that last sentence and it’s an important lesson learned going forward. We can’t field a roster filled with guys who routinely spend time on the DL and not have quality depth. @fathom and myself, amongst others, called it out immediately that relying on Eloy & Eaton to be healthy over a full season was very risky and would likely lead to stretches of overplaying bad backups without a quality depth addition. And while Engel is a very nice 4th OF, he’s not a good everyday corner OF when used for extended stretches of time. I get it’s easy to say “most teams don’t have great depth”, but if we were going to roll the dice on Eaton in RF plus a rookie at DH, we should have invested in another bat that could have been part of the mix at both spots. It’s really that simple and I think both Hahn & Jerry deserve some blame for not mitigating that risk.

  36. There is certainly a racist element in accusing flamboyant Latino players of slacking as there are many flamboyant Latino players who are working very hard (tatis Jr for example). Just because you are flamboyant and wearing chains it doesn't mean you are a slacker. However yermin does have a history and maybe he indeed is tough to coach and not really taking coaching suggestions well. Yermin needs to shrink his zone and focus on pitches towards down and in. Maybe step an inch closer to the plate to take away a bit of the outside pitch.

  37. Theyre gonna freak when the Sox try to do a hybrid rebuild every cycle like the Devil Rays. Rays, whatever. I'd be happy however if they took one of the big salaries they don't want to pay for a given player, and invest it in some real scouting infrastructure and minors for internationals. That’s going to be the test if it works or not.

  40. Tony said pregame he is blocked at 3B, but an option for 2B if he "earns a promotion". I don't get into trade speculation posts, but it's likely something major won't happen, if at all (JR would have to agree to spend more money), until the Sox can assess the progress of Eloy and Luis as they begin rehabbing. They play a bunch of tanking/crap ass teams coming up Pittsburgh, Seattle, Minnesota, Detroit, Minnesota and then close with Baltimore before the All Star Break. Expect them to continue playing .500 ball against RHP and rake against LHP.

  42. 2 losses in a row with virtually no offensive production....this team may be forcing RH to realize they need to be buyers. They should still win the division but this offense needs help and the bullpen needs a reliable set up guy.

  43. You notice I hardly said a thing about Vaughn because it would be the same thing you said so using that against me isn't exactly saying anything against my argument. As I said Eloy will be playing LF whether we like it or not. Everyone may wish otherwise but if you want the best possible lineup throughout the playoff and in the World Series where we lose the DH in NL parks Eloy will have to be playing LF . You can limit his usage in LF to avoid another injury while we have the DH .Eloy hits RHP well and you didn't even mention him. Since the trade deadline is July 30th and Eloy is hopefully back by the middle of August it sounds like you are advocating Schwarber for about a 2 week period. I think this is where our difference in preference lie. Escobar against RHP in 2021 : 10 HR , .236. BA, .288 OBP, .447 slg., .736 OPS Schwarber vs. RHP in 2021: 12 HR , .234 BA . 296 Slg. 506 slg . .802. OPS So yes if you want to look at just one thing like hitting against RHP Schwarber is better . But if you want to look at how often Escobar would play vs how often Schwarber would play plus the base running defense and ability of Escobar to play 3rd and also improves the Sox against LHP . I don't understand how anyone could pick Schwarber over Escobar. Escobar vs LHP: 5 HR , .273 BA, .314 OBP, .530 SLg. , .845 OPS. Escobar is more likely to help against both LHP and RHP Schwarber /LHP: 1 HR , .218 BA., .371OBP .309 Slg., . 681 OPS. Frankly I'm tired of adding DH types who won't even help you in the World Series unless it's PH. Escobar can contribute in multiple ways hitting RH or LH , Fielding , injury replacement at 3rd, baserunning and defense. If Moncada goes down Schwarber cannot replace him. Escobar can. That alone should make him more valuable than Schwarber .
    1 point
  44. Schwarber only plays LF. Schwarber is Eloy like in LF . This year alone he has a -4 OAA which is about as bad as you are going to find in the amount of games played so far this year. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was the only one I could find worse. Escobar is a switch hitter who hits LHP better than RH it's true. But lets not forget he has hit more HR's than Schwarber this year. He can also provide defensive and base running value that Schwarber can't. Schwarber slightly better offensively because of higher OBP. Player value according to fWAR puts Schwarber at .8 and Escobar at 1.4. I'll take the better baseball player . Escobar would play almost every inning of every game due to switch hitting ,defensive and base running ability through the playoffs. If you make the World Series Sox lose the DH in NL park who would you rather have then Schwarber or Escobar ? Can you say the same for Schwarber with his terrible defense when you already have Eloy in the OF ( That's going to happen whether we like it or not) Robert, Engel , Goodwin and Leury ? Let's please just have one terrible OF and one mediocre OF with Vaughn defensively. The rest of them I'd prefer them above average defensively. Preventing runs means just as much as getting them. Edit: I forgot one other thing in Escobar's favor. If we lose Moncada at 3rd base he is a quality replacement there too.

  47. I have never understood this perspective. If you are presenting data and opinions contrary to another's, that is an argument. And if you aren't trying to persuade, then what really is the point of actually pulling data? Ultimately if you are gonna be passive aggressive anytime someone presents something to you, never take their information into account and never take any thing seriously... then there's no fucking point in conversing with you. Either way, I will never have to resort to what you resort to because I am an adult. You do not appear to be. Justify it any way you want; it's childish and unnecessary. Period. Grow up. Because your childish and tiresome smarky amd condescending comments are just pompous and stupid and renders what you say not worth Jack shit. This isn't anger, it's just a dose of reality that the petulant child you are needs to hear.
