Well at least I know who the Brian Goodwin and Jake Lamb fanboys are who would rather win a couple of games in June versus developing their talent to win for the next decade.4 points

Sox have been a bush league organization since Einhorn and Reinsdorf bought the team. Anyway, I'm curious how they were able to get that bag into the park.3 points

He's just not that good. Sox are very weak at the corners. Weak roster.3 points

Still on this, huh? No one is pleading for Vaughn to play LF over better options. If Eloy and Luis were healthy, I would have sent him to AAA over a month ago. But they're not, and you can add Eaton, Hamilton and Engel to the IL-victim list. The only thing anyone here is saying is that turning Vaughn into a weak-side platoon player for AAAA retreads like Brian Goodwin and Jake Lamb is asinine. Realistically, all can play against RHP based on how dinged up the Sox are, so I am not even sure what you're arguing for at this point.3 points

Time to shuffle the deck a bit. Bring up Beckham, Sheets, and Burger. Send down Mercedes, cut Gonzalez, option Mendick?2 points

That's another hallmark of a reinsdorf organization. That security stooge has no shame. Perfect cap to this shit game.2 points

A couple snitches are in the booth. They got those kids in trouble a (few?) weeks ago (running around all over), now these guys' popcorn.2 points

It always looks that way when you can't hit, hit into 3 DP's, and hit a truck load of ground balls.2 points

Well, Escobar is a free agent after this year so who cares about 2022 with that? If you trade for an OF, and they have control…that OF is your right fielder next year! Or, what are the odds that Jiminez and Robert play 150 games in 2022? If we haven’t learned the lesson about having 4 starting quality OFs being useful this year, what will it take?2 points

I know it’s “only June”, but we’re seeing what this team really looks like with the injuries. Too many AAAA guys playing every day. They need some help.2 points

Why is Collins catching tonight against a lefty. He doesn’t hit lefties. Would have taken my chances with Yermin as DH and Yaz catching instead.2 points

Abreu‘s triple slash is 240 .316 .434 last 15 games it‘s been 200 .238 .333 he has been absolutely brutal. The trying to do too much excuse is getting old.2 points

This whole “approach” thing by the Mariners is a fascinating strategy the Sox should try2 points

Lots of bench players being exposed and then two of your main guys struggling badly. It’s shocking to me some people are so against Escobar.2 points

Stone being able & willing to adapt with the times is part of why he's the best analyst in the game.2 points

Yes. Goodwin isn't even a good corner outfielder and while Leury isn't a good CF'er he's better than Goodwin.2 points

Talk about Escobar rumors here. Y'all can debate platooning Vaughn in a new thread.2 points

Honestly the only number that the Sox should care about is that career 116 OPS+, and his huge split advantage vs RHP. The Sox won't be trying to get defense out him, so WAR doesn't matter. Slot him at DH and let him rek righties2 points

This is the most intelligent post on this board!! Thank you!! ANYONE, who knows ANYTHING about baseball knows that all good/great teams go through bad stretches. Not some great teams. ALL of them!!! Pure and simple fact. If you don't know that, you know nothing about this game. I'll go further than that with your examples. The 1927 Yankees lost 4 of 5 to the Indians and Washington Senators. Then later in the year lost 4 in a row, with 3 of those losses to the Indians. Guess the couldn't beat the great 27 Indians. I think after this, they should have traded Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. You know, start over. The 1975 Reds lost 6 out of 7 to the Padres, and their closest pursuers the Dodgers, getting swept in a four game series from them. Then a month later lost 6 in row, including getting swept 4 straight in Philadelphia. And their 6th loss was to the last place Expos. I think after that happening, the smart thing to do would have been to trade Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench and Tony Perez. Have to admit they would have gotten an awful lot for those guys........The idiocy among some people just blows me away sometimes.2 points

Fully disagree. Development isn’t linear and a hitter as gifted as Vaughn can transform over 200 PAs, especially when his baseline is a 40 wRC+.1 point
-
Let me keep this simple. Playing Andrew Vaughn isn't about his stats today or anyone else's stats today. Playing Andrew Vaughn is about trying to get your best possible team ready for October. If you want to win series in October, getting Andrew Vaughn to be able to regularly hit major league pitching like his ceiling is able to do is going to make you A MUCH better team in October than Jake Lamb or Brian Goodwin doing exactly what they have done in recent years. These guys were unemployed in April for a reason. They are the White Sox 3rd string of OFs for a reason. If you can get me an OF that makes us better in October, I will listen to that logic, but the guys we have now, aren't it.1 point

I've been full aboard the "sending down Vaughn IF/when everyone else is healthy" train myself.1 point
-
he has a wRC+ of like 50 against RHP. He's in danger of creating bad habits. That said, it is what it is.1 point
-
He might. He was the best hitter in college a few years ago and has faced plenty of RHP, just not at this level. He will figure it out.1 point
-
You can also adjust on the fly. Right now we have a lead in the AL Central. If that falls apart you can adjust playing time up and down as needed. But right now, with everything in your favor, you try to prepare yourself to be the best possible team in October, not June.1 point

I’ve always been irrationally found of Mendoza, so glad to see him turning things around as I had not noticed that.1 point
-
Also we did exactly this last year. We played the guy we viewed with a superior ceiling as much as we could until the end to try to get him to turn around in Nomar Mazara, when it became time to win, we benched him. I do agree you could scale back more if you had guys like Eloy and Robert around, but for Brian Goodwin and Jake Lamb? For Luis Gonzalez? Eh.1 point

Btw......is there any news on the Escobar or any other trade front OR even any news on Eaton, BH, and Michael Kopech???1 point

Harvin Mendoza turning his season around after an awful start. He is hitting .356/.431/.511/.942 over his last 13 games. DJ Gladney started June hot but has since gone 0 for his last 21.1 point

Jake Burger has a .741 OPS against right handed pitching in AAA. Once you adjust for major league pitching, is that really helping?1 point
-
He JUST got to play his first pro game within the last week. Slow the roll on the panic. He's walking into a situation where everyone else has been playing in their spots for a month and a half, and wasn't even supposed to be with this team originally. Let the kid gets his ABs and settle in.1 point
-
Not to mention he was patting himself on the back when he agreed Nick Williams was the better option. How did that work out? How is Vaughn supposed to improve vs RHP if he sits against them?1 point
-
Right. And the alternative is playing guys like Billy Hamilton (when he is back) and Brian Goodwin who have had lackluster careers to this point anyway.1 point
-
Yes, this is the whole point. With Vaughn you have the realistic chance for dramatic improvement that will pay off as the season wears on. On the other hand, you know what you're getting with his current below-replacement-level replacements, and it ain't good.1 point

I always use the National Weather Service site, they have hour by hour graphs and solid radar projections over the following hour, but slow to load. Was nice when Meigs Field had a station for downtown/Sox weather, but after Daley destroyed that option, so I use Midway for Sox games and beyond Lake Effect wind/rain/temp drops works well. https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=41.88403000000005&lon=-87.69657999999998 Accuweather's radar is easier to load on the phone. goes 1 1/2 hours into the future for projected rain, so I use this on the go. https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/chicago/60608/weather-radar/3483081 point

Disagree on more bullpen help. Coming into the season we were widely regarded as having a top 5 pen, and IMO a top 2 or 3 pen. They made poor moves on the offensive side. Adam Eaton signing was almost a universal frowned upon move. Then not doing ANYTHING to improve the offensive depth/bench because of $$$$ issues was absolutely boneheaded and greedy.1 point
