  1. You know, you're right. You've been so damned right with every post about Abreu over the past 4 seasons that I definitely trust your eye on Gavin Sheets after a handful of at bats. SOLD.

  2. Haven't you learned anything from Mercedes? I like what I've seen so far but I need to see more.

  3. Dude. Lighten up and let the internet have some fun for a minute. No one is advocating for a $100M blockbuster movie over this, it's hyperbole.

  5. Ok, so we need to spell this out. Gold Glove caliber veteran 3B >>> not gold glove caliber rookie 3B on defense.

  6. Unwilling? What the hell reason would the franchise want to move him for? It is really clear that Burger is no where near the defender. No reason to make up things.

  7. Cmon man. Sometimes you can just tell by a guy's swing. I don't need a large sample size. This guy isn't Yermin. Sheets just has IT. He is going to be one hell of a hitter, imo.

  8. White Sox Sheets all over Twins in Grandal fashion. Goodwin.

  10. What a moment for Jake Burger. Sox fans had pretty much given up the kid for dead after the first achillies, let alone the second one. The kid got to hit in a freaking made up baseball league for a month, and wasn't even invited to Schaumburg initially. Then he gets the late invite to the camp, and quietly goes about his business there. He shows up in camp this year having a grand total of 200 PAs in professional baseball, all at Low A in 2017. and then proceeds to hit like he hasn't missed a day of baseball. If you can't root for a kid like this, and be happy for his success, who can you root for?

  11. The White Sox slaughter of the Twins last night put them a whooping 13 1/2 games up on the Twins in the Central Division. It also puts the Sox at 7-1 on the season vs. the Twins. The Sox have got incredible contributions all year from unexpected sources that have been forced into action by injuries. This continued last night as Gavin Sheets, Brian Goodwin and Andrew Vaughn all homered in the 13-3 rout. Vaughn also singled and drove in 3 runs. Sheets HR was the 1st of his career in only his 2nd game. Yasmani Grandal continued his torrid June by hitting 2 HR's and driving in 5 runs. He now has 14 HR's on the season to lead the Sox. Jose Abreu also homered to give the Sox a season high of 6 in a game after only homering 5 times in the last 10 games. As far as a response to the Josh Donaldson /Lucas Giolito controversy goes, the Sox let their bats do the talking. The crowd was thrilled to see Cease strike out Donaldson twice after he initially homered in the 1st inning amid a chorus of boos. The Sox have won 3 in a row and look to thrust a dagger into the Twins today in the final game of the series. Today's daytime action will feature RH Jose Berrios 7 - 2 3.42 ERA vs. LH Carlos Rodon 6-3 2.06 ERA LET'S GO !

  13. Ha they thought they had a chance to climb back into the division race and we fucking spiked it right in their face. Enjoy being 15 games back again.

  14. can they squeeze that 4th game in tonight to get another W? Suck it Donaldson.

  15. I have been on this site for a long time...but is Jack a bit? I can't really figure that someone would spend 10 pages to discredit a player so much.

  16. Prime Adam Dunn at the plate with Gallo's defense is an elite player. That'll more than do.

  20. For those of us not watching please confirm whether Moncada is dead or just jammed his fingers because it's hard to tell from this thread

  21. Should have traded him when they had the chance.

  22. 3 firstbasemen in the lineup and it's Grandal playing first today. Not complaining, that's what I'd do too but it's funny.

  23. FFS dude this isn't a video game. Defense matters. Moncada is an elite 3B. You don't fuck with that for Jake Burger. Stick Burger at 2B a few days a week....sure....and deal with just 1 poorly defended position and not 2. This hypothetical you continue to repeat is simply not something that is going to transpire under pretty much any circumstance.

  24. The Sox picking up Kris Bryant's salary and underpaying for him on the trade market just makes a ton of sense as our next RF.

  25. If/when the decision comes down to whether Eloy or Vaughn is a platoon player, perhaps your answer will be different.

  26. Sheets really never has been bad his whole milb career, but he never was really standing out either (always like a 110-120 wrc+) . The issue is that he is mostly a first baseman and from a 1b prospect you usually want to see a bit more. There certainly is some talent but there isn't really a tool that shines, you get slightly above average but not spectacular opb/plate discipline with maybe fringe average power. I do think he can be a. 340 obp guy with about 15-20 Homers but obviously at 1b that is not so spectacular. For now I take him as a Platoon Guy though, he can't be worse than leury and Vaughn against eighties and if he manages to put up a 750 ops against Rhp that would not be spectacular but an upgrade. Don't think he has a future with the Sox but hopefully he can have a hot stretch like yermin and become a nice trade chip at the deadline.

  30. Man Sheets can rake enough that I'm thinking of Vaughn in RF, Eloy in LF and Sheets at DH. Need to see more, but me likey.

  32. Guys pretty sure Leury is in a full body cast we will Find out later what happened, I think he may have met Donaldson in the parking garage

  33. I feel like Vaughn has played himself into a long term OF job. He's even shown enough arm where I could see him getting some run in RF.

  34. A healthy Adam Eaton has a role on this team. An unhealthy one is a waste of a roster space. IF he is 100%, and not rushing back, he can help.
    2 points
  35. People forget how crucial Eaton was in April. If not for him and Mercedes in April who knows where this team is. No one could get the hit other than those two.

  36. Vaughn is not a finished product. He is a just turned 23-year old that hadn't had an at bat above A ball prior to this season. What he is now is not what he is going to be, and people pigeon-holing him into a platoon role now and into the future are comical. Hitting MLB pitching is extremely difficult, and he's learning. He's going to be a cornerstone of this offensive with Eloy, Luis, Yoan and Nick for the foreseeable future.

  37. Hey look: Irrational exuberance after a kid bum-slays for 2 games. I wonder when the juggernaut thread will come back. All kidding aside, good for Sheets, and good for us. And I hope this continues. But let's pump the brakes before proclaiming this kid a "stud."

  38. He would fit so well on this team. I don't see it happening, but it's a damn near perfect fit.

  39. I will be happy if his only contribution is giving the team some offense until Eloy returns

  40. This team really doesn't have to do much IMO, especially as they get healthier This team has excellent depth Outside of Escabor and maybe a bullpen arm, i don't see much happening

  41. I am just glad that our 2017 Draft Picks have gone from Shits to Sheets!!!! at least the last 2 nights....and the guy drafted in the 1st round is raking in AAA too.

  42. I certainly have found myself looking forward to the Sheets at-bats.

  43. Unless Vaughn hits righties the same way he has been the last two games. Of course, there’s generic righties vs. the frontline guys he would face in the playoffs. It’s way too early to say he is what he is, not unlike Moncada as a RHB against lefties three seasons ago. As far as Sheets goes, I think Ron (primarily) is just looking for any reason to push Abreu off 1B.
