  3. There are no good managers in the eyes of fans, period. They all screw up all the time ... when their team loses. Tony has done a marvelous job and yes I'm still upset at him over the DUI stuff. Right now he deserves an A plus for all the obvious reasons I won't repeat. Who would you rather have than LaRussa? Nobody is better.

  4. I don't expect anyone who didn't like TLR to ever change their tune. They will always find something about him they don't like to hang their hat on. TLR is not a perfect manager, by any means. No one is. He has his strengths, and weaknesses. But he didn't get into the HOF and help his teams win the most games in integrated baseball by being an idiot. He has reasons for the decisions he makes. They don't always turn out, but often they do. Before the season and during the early part, the biggest problem I had with TLR critics is the way many of them came off thinking they are smarter than TLR, and somehow would be more qualified to be a MLB manager than he is. That struck me as complete BS. One reason is that there's a whole lot more to managing than deciding the lineup or when to take out the starter, etc. You have to be a manager of people and a clubhouse, and you need to get guys pulling the same direction. There's a lot that goes into managing that no one on the outside who has never been in those shoes has any real clue about. I still think the TLR hire was a good one, and was way better than hiring AJ Hinch, who couldn't keep his team from blatantly cheating their way to a WS win. I think the resilience of the team in the face of all the injuries and the breakdowns in what was expected to be a great bullpen is due at least in part to TLR. I expected nothing less. But, as much as I've defended TLR, I agree that it's a long season and we aren't done yet. The Sox need to get their horses back and to add at the deadline if we want to beat Boston or Houston or Tampa or Oakland in the playoffs. So far, we've crushed the weaker teams but not matched up nearly as well against the top ones. TLR isn't going to make that difference. We need Eloy and Robert and Yazmani and others back, and an upgrade at 2B and RF if we want to win in the postseason.

  5. Four years after we traded for him and he's still High A? Yikes..

  6. A little too early to bank on Sheets being the answer IMO.

  7. The team has been decimated by injuries, but is absolutely crushing the division. "Tony's guys" like Leury and Hamilton would get shit on left and right for being played too often. Now they are fan favorites and are integral to the team. No matter who goes down, the team steps up and finds a way to win. Maybe it's time to give TLR his due? Going further, there are plenty of people here that have said some very mean things about TLR. Very nasty things. Many people owe him an apology, including myself. I'm sorry Tony. Ricky renteria wouldn't be carrying this team like TLR has. The team and is simply united. It looks like a storybook season tbh.

  8. The TLR hire was solid, even though it took alot of people by surprise. The only reason certain people dont like the hire is because certain people dont like the comments he made about standing for the flag. Those detractors conceal their true disdain by trying to create a problem like the the Yermin thing. Cub fans cant stand him simply because he managed their arch nemesis to world titles.

  9. autopilot? you can't be serious. the plane has lost its left engine, the vertical stabilizer is hanging on by a thread and the gear is stuck up. If TLR manages to land this thing he is a master aviator.

  10. I'm waiting for James Fegan to get a chance to ask Eloy legitimate questions such as: What is life in Heaven like, and did it meet or beat your expectations? What does God look like, and were you surprised? Are there any aspects of Heaven you were disappointed with? Can you provide a few examples of why returning to play for the White Sox is worth leaving Heaven, and are you sure you are making the right decision?

  17. That 1-0 game actually took place on my birthday during my Freshman year in Carbondale. 16 years later, I still remember Jacque Jones ruining my 18th birthday. What a dick.

  18. If anything, him going to Hendriks in the 8th against the middle of their order was one of his best tactical decisions of the year. We've probably blown almost 10 leads in the 8th this year.

  19. Maybe they should hire you to oversee the bullpen and manage Kopech's innings. Sounds like you are a baseball savant who has it all figured out.

  21. He’s looked good so far, but let’s wait and see how the league adjusts to him in the coming weeks. I’d hate to see him fall the way of Yermin and suddenly we have a massive hole in RF come October. Personally, if Eloy is going to primarily DH, then I think it’s very risky to bank of two rookies in the corners. I’d add a legit RF and then let Sheets serve as insurance at multiple spots including LF.

  25. I will apologize when they shift properly. But stubborness still rules the day to day decisions. I will say that his lineups look crazy some days, but have been mostly successful and outside of Yermin sillyness, he has mostly kept his mouth shut. I still would rather have Hinch, but for the next 2-3 seasons they can win a world series with TLR, and that is all that really matters.

  30. 100%. Sheets and another piece can be used to get a difference maker. I like sheets, but with Cespedes and Colas in the pipeline, he isn't the long term answer and he will get exposed come playoff time. A playoff Lineup of LF Vaughn with Engel 7th inning on, CF of Robert and RF of Acquisition with Engel getting some play here is just big boy pants. Sheets, Goodwin and Hamilton are nice stories...but them vs every ace in October is not going to end well.

  39. Don’t only think about Cleveland. Think about that first round matchup against either Boston or Houston, where the White Sox go in as underdogs and the other team has home field advantage, as well.

  40. Personally, this has been the best summer of my life. I love La Russa Ball where the next guy always steps up and the train keeps rolling. Very reminiscent of his Cardinal teams. It’s fun to watch and it’s the most invested in a team I’ve been. I’ve also made a lot of friends with LaRusstans on Discord and here. Tony La Russa has impacted my life positively and I’m grateful for it.
