  2. Good to finally see this happen. For the record, we should all be savoring this moment. The Sox drafted a raw SS in the middle of the 1st round with a high ceiling out of a JuCo who had a minimum of ABs. They developed him into a batting champion, a defensive wiz, a great clutch hitter, and now an all-star. What a great win for Timmy and the White Sox organization.

  5. Even if your idea is to have Eloy DH most of the time, he's still going to have to play the field on occasion. Not going to win a World Series with Eloy on the bench because he can't pick up a glove anymore.

  6. I don't get all the Goodwin hate. A left handed bat with a 129 OPS+, 130 wRC+, 12.9% walk rate 23.7% K-rate. What's so baffling?

  7. He was 4 for his last 22 but 2 were 2 HR's and he took 6 walks . I guess If you take away today it was 3 for 19 with 4 walks. After today he is at .273 .357 .636 1.011 which is damn good in 39 PA's.

  11. Vaughn is the keeper of the bunch, and its pretty silly to even group him with the other three. Burger and Sheets are worth hanging on to until the right deal comes along. Yermin is a flash in the pan until he proves otherwise at this point, and that hardly brings back anything in trade.

  12. I got so excited that I committed a faux pas by creating the game thread at 5:30am, then to learn that was not my prerogative. This will be my first game since summer 2016 after spending four of the last five seasons overseas. Go Sox!

  21. I just watched Vaughn play another sure fly ball out into a bloop single. He is too slow to play anything but first base. Same with Sheets. Burger can play 3B but he is blocked by Moncada. Unless you become infatuated with a player as a fan, you realize that any player can be traded for the right return. Personally, I would not turn down Rutschman for Vaughn, Collins and Sheets and I am sure there are trades others would agree to.

  22. God I hope so. If we have a real comfortable lead you can skip Rodon starts in August and September to save him for the playoffs.

  23. Goodwin just keeps hitting. Unreal pickup. Maybe Hahn's best this offseason outside of Rodon.

  24. Eloy's jersey is buttoned up to just above his belly, in case anyone was wondering

  25. It doesn't help that he plays so deep. That ball had a .230 xBA, so it was a very routine play. Yet Sheets wasn't even close to catching that.

  27. He's gone from a 38 ops+ vs RHP to 67 in about 2 weeks.

  28. Vaughn isn't getting dealt. Burger was an early first rounder, is known to have a great hit tool, and Lord knows you can't question his heart. He's certainly trade bait but I think we would have to be overwhelmed to deal him this season. While there's no obvious position for him to play, be it now or in the near future, I think we'd be selling very low on him right now (AAA stint excluded). Sheets could grow into the piece we've needed since Jim Thome left, a power hitting LH bat. I like that he's apparently getting coached up by his dad and Cal Ripken, makes contact, and seems to have a decent eye. He could grow into a player but in a deal for a true impact player (not a rental), he's trade bait. I'd hesitate dealing him for a 3 month rental. Mercedes. No one will want him.

  29. Vaughn is untouchable IMO. He’s put up a 199 wRC+ against RHP over the past two weeks (31 PA) and his K rate has been cut in half during this stretch (26% before, 13% during). SSS no doubt, but it’s clear he’s starting to figure them out and is becoming an absolute monster with the bat. Throw in the fact he can play a passable LF and you have a middle of the order fixture for the next five years. He ain’t going anywhere.

  35. So with all your points, at least admit no managers have an effect on a team unless they are buffoons like Bevington. Who would be a better manager than LaRussa in your mind? You know ... the great Joe Maddon was a god (small g) with the Cubs, then a buffoon with the same team. Tony LaRussa is not a buffoon. He is excellent and as good as any manager out there to be in charge of this team. I can accept your fact Tony has little to nothing to do with the success of the team, but if I accept that u must accept that NO MANAGER has anything this year to do with the success of his team. No manager. If they are not buffoons like Bevington, they are all about the same. I'd give Tony an A for his performance this season. What would you give him? C? D? F even?

  36. Yeah but I dont think it will be that much of a seller's market as we approach the deadline. More teams will become sellers, so some help should naturally become cheaper.

  39. I don’t see Lamb as a part of the team’s future, as such I’d way rather see what Sheets brings to the table and let him get MLB at bats and coaching. With Abreu’s age advancing, Sheets could potentially be our 1b/DH of the future.

  40. It's so weird that you get challenged for thinking this way. I mean it's so obvious. The Sox weren't hitting HR's before Grandal got hurt. There is zero LH power in the lineup now. Then you have a guy telling you the Sox are trying to replace Madrigals production . If I had said that people would be down my throat but because it's a surly admin no one challenges him. The Sox were 27th in HR's in June . There is not a single contender in the bottom 9 teams for HR's in June and the Sox just lost their #1 HR guy from June. The Sox are 25th in HR's and that's only going to go down for the next until when ? Eloy starts hitting some ? The last team I could find that wasn't in the top 13 teams in HR's who won the World Series was KC Royals in 2015 and they easily had the best defense in baseball and a rock solid BP and Kauffman Stadium is a hard place to hit HR's with deep alleys and deep CF.

  41. He was playing by the same rules as everybody else and is still a top 30 pitcher. The only way "sticky stuff" matters is if he was using it but somehow all those guys in the 31-60 range weren't. If everybody gets worse by the same factor he's still top 30.
    1 point
  42. What in the fuck are you talking about? He’s literally 30th in fWAR this year and basically has 1 1/3 seasons worth of starts. He will likely regress some due to a lack of sticky stuff, but he has plenty of room for growth and he’s made substantial improvement in this year alone. Worst case scenario, he’s a damn good #4 starter and that has plenty of value when you’re under control for four more cheap years. Joc probably has negative value at this point. It’s a completely fucking stupid trade idea.

  43. Bernstein and Rahimi should be fired on the spot for thinking Peterson is worth more than Cease. The level of incompetence in that thought process is mind-numbing.

  44. If you are willing to blame him for loses, you have to credit him for wins. I'm no fan...but this team is playing tough through adversity.
