As pissed off as we were about everything today, that’s a nice palate cleanser and absolutely crushing for Minnesota9 points

High water mark in previous seasons (gms over .500) I tried to find the latest point in the season for each year, but some years they hit their mark multiple times (for ex. 2005, they hit +36 again in Game 162 99-63) 2005: +36 (Sept 7 / 87-51) 2006: +27 (July 6 / 56-29) 2007: +4 (May 25 / 24-20) 2008: +20 (Aug 26 / 76-56) 2009: +5 (July 31 / 50-45) 2010: +17 (Sept 6 / 77-60) 2011: +3 (Aug 30 / 68-65) 2012: +16 (Aug 26 / 71-55) 2013: +2 (Apr 7 / 4-2)️ 2014: +2 (Apt 15 / 8-6)️ 2015: +1 (May 18 / 18-17) ️ 2016: +13 (May 9 / 23-10) 2017: +4 (Apr 29 / 13-9) 2018: +2 (Mar 31 / 2-0) 2019: +0 (Jun 14 / 34-34) 2020: +16 (Sep 15 / 32-16) 2021: +20 (Jul 18 / 56-36) So far, this has been the Sox best season since 20068 points

Blows my mind that some of our fans still believe: 1. Players will never get hurt 2. There's no such thing as a bench player. Sheets has the potential to believe a LH power bat who can be a passable backup at 1B and corner OF, plus an option at DH and pinch hit. Saying he has no future here is pretty hyperbolic. If he can hit, he'll have a role5 points

Swinging 3-0 isn't the bad thing there, with the hottest hitter. But swinging at THAT 3-0 pitch, is.4 points

Lynn has 70 pitches with no runs. He wasn't going to come out. The relievers going yesterday has no bearing on that outcome.4 points

That wasn't a meaningless inning. It wasn't exactly a blowout, and the Astros are basically the best offence in the league. They can score 3 or 4 runs pretty quick. I don't hate using your studs to make sure a W goes on the board there. Especially considering the potential crisis of confidence in not being able to beat the best teams. I assume Kopech is still available today as well in relief. But that's just my two cents... Now I just hope Reynaldo turns out to be a better decision than just a bullpen game where Burr or whomever starts.4 points

Yep—I think I fall in that category. No fan of the hire and still nervous about in-game managing in the playoffs. But that’s all outweighed by my excitement about the team’s performance, and I acknowledge that a) it’s entirely possible that TLR is responsible for some aspects of it that I’m not seeing and b) even if he’s not, at some point endlessly bitching about the manager of a really successful team kind of makes you look like a fanatic.4 points

"1 AB" really? It is admittedly a small sample size, but 5 homers in 49 at bats, from the left side, with 14 RBI's, is quite impressive.3 points

Don't worry, Gavin Sheets is not going anywhere. He is the one bat in the organization that holds some promise to become that long coveted LH middle of the order power bat. I would guess that he will continue to get every opportunity to fill that void. Let's just hope that he can continue to be productive. With Vaughn able to play LF, he could be the future first baseman, when abreu is gone. In the meantime, he'll get better in RF and is not too much of a defensive liabiliity there, so far.3 points

imagine not being high on Madrigal when he had the 2nd or 3rd best OPS on this team at the time of his injury3 points

Nice they were they saving their top relievers for a game they had no realistic ambitions of winning3 points

Is it perfect? No. Is this team (with Eloy, Robert and Yaz healthy) good enough to win in October with an Engel/Leury/Goodwin RF? Yes. I am not trading Crochet + 2 of Kelley/Dalquist/Thompson + perhaps more for 1.33 seasons of Joey Gallo. The Sox are built to be good for 5-7 seasons. We don't need to push our few remaining chips in now for a very good but flawed player in Gallo. Bottom line is this - if the Pads, or the Yanks want to Gallo - they're better trade partners for TEX than the Sox. Cuz the Sox aren't trading pieces off the MLB roster.3 points

Want to say Thank You to the Moderation Team for isolating the trade rumors into a new folder. I'm really looking forward to the DH tomorrow, I want the Sox to completely bury the Twins to the point that they decide to sell off everyone and tank until Carl Pohlad's great great great grandchildren have come and gone. I want garbage corporate field and their home team to be known as MLB Chernobyl, and the team to be relegated to the minor leagues. I have been sick of the Twins for two decades. I want to live a healthy 40-50 more years, and never see them win another AL Central again in my lifetime. Also want to say I love your avatar. I'm sorry someone attacked you for it earlier today. People need to accept The Truth. Go Sox!!!3 points

I think there is plenty of middle ground people here who are pretty much over the hiring and are more focused on the how the team has performed under him. Plus seeing some posters continue to stick pins in their voodoo dolls every chance they get in nearly every thread they can work it just riles up the people who rather just focus on the team. If TLR was really such a villain surely he'd be in jail or at the very least in Bauer-like limbo. I can imagine winning the World Series and the 1st words out of some peoples mouths will be about how TLR will get smashed again and the ensuing results will hopefully prevent him from managing again in 2023.2 points

Adolfo also leads the southern league in Homers, RBI (by a wide margin) and is top 5 in OPS.......so if he can't hit AA pitching....no one in that league can.2 points

You do not need to resign Abreu. He still is under contract next season and he absolutely will NOT get more than 10 mil a year from 2023 on. He is old, his stats are diminishing and he loves this team so he will take a reduced salary IF they have a place for him in 2023. IMO, they don't, unless he is willing to be a bench player / occasional 1st baseman and the money should be spent elsewhere anyways.2 points

This year jumped out at me, so I went back and looked at the final standings. Sox finished 90-72 (+18), so they were -9 from July 6 to the end of the season. If they had just been .500, they would have finished with 94 or 95 wins, which still would have either been one short of or tied with Detroit for the Wild Card. The AL Central had 3 teams with 90+ wins. No other division had more than one, and the entire National League only had one 90+ win team.2 points

Since he's been on the IL 3 times, and been injured several additional times including missing all but two at bats in the playoffs last year, it's a pretty sturdy limb to stand on. Tony is not the only Sox employee with Life Call. "We're sending help immediately, again, Misses Fletcher."2 points

Just wanted to refresh this after the Lynn signing. He's now under control for 3 more years. ******************* If you look at Spotrac, you can see who the Sox have under contractual control over the next several years. Starting Lineup - SS Tim Anderson - 2021, 22, 23, 24 - 3B Yoan Moncada - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 - 1B Jose Abreu - 21, 22 - DH/LF Eloy Jimenez - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - C Yasmani Grandal - 21, 22, 23 - LF/DH/1B - Andrew Vaughn - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - CF Luis Robert - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 - RF Adam Eaton - 21, 22 Adam Engel, 21, 22, 23 -- - 2B Nick Madrigal - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Bench - Utility Leury Garcia - 21 - C Zack Collins - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - OF Adam Engel - 21, 22, 23 - OF Brian Goodwin 21, 22 - Extra bench player??? There could be room for another player here. - Jake Burger, Gavin Sheets? Starting pitchers - Lucas Giolito - 21, 22, 23 - Dallas Keuchel - 21, 22, 23 - Lance Lynn - 21, 22, 23, 24 - Dylan Cease - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 - Carlos Rodon - 21 - Reynaldo Lopez - 21, 22, 23 Bullpen - Liam Hendriks - 21, 22, 23, 24 - Aaron Bummer - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - Evan Marshall - 21, 22 - Matt Foster - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - Cody Heuer - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 - Jace Fry - 21, 22, 23 - Jimmy Cordero - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 - Zack Burdi -, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 Transition Pitcher - Garrett Crochet - 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 - Michael Kopech - 21, 22, 24, 24, 25, 26 2021 Payroll allocation - $123M 2022 Payroll - $116M - no arb (not updated) 2023 Payroll - $86M - 10 arb (not updated) 2024 Payroll - $85M - 7 arb (not updated) ************ Assuming they exercise options: In 2022, they could lose: Garcia, Rodon In 2023, they could lose: Abreu, Eaton, Marshall In 2024, they could lose: Grandal, Engel, Giolito, Keuchel, Lopez, Fry **************** This looks like an incredibly talented team given what we've learned since I wrote this before the season. I think most of us hope that the Sox re-sign Carlos Rodon. If they were able to do that, they should try to unload Keuchel's contract even if they received next to nothing in return. That would give the Sox the best starting staff in baseball for at least the next 2 seasons to make a run at the World Series. The bullpen would need some shoring up. But the lineup should be terrific if it can stay healthy. Right field is the only weakness, but I think the Sox can get by with a combo of Adam Engel and Brian Goodwin, since they will have been forced to spend their money elsewhere.2 points

This series showed why its critical not to step off the gas despite the big lead in the division. The Sox haven't played so well against good teams on the road, but have won series against Toronto, Tampa and Houston at home. Hanging on to that #1 seed could end up being the difference in the playoffs.2 points

it gets really tired being accused of being a "water carrier" or whatever for big pharma or the mainstream media or whatever when you simply want to see people get vaccinated because it's literally the best way to prevent needless death. i'm not in the pocket of pfizer. i could give two shits about cnn's ratings. vaccination is the best way to keep people from dying. just because people have diabetes or are overweight or whatever doesn't mean their deaths are more acceptable. shit, i can even understand vaccine hesitancy. my brother is vaccinated, my sister in law is not because she is pregnant and was concerned about possible complications from that. i get it. what i don't get are the q-style arguments against it, like its all for fauci, or that this is all intentional or whatever. fuck that. there's been thousands upon thousands of needless deaths and we have a tool to fight that2 points
