  1. I honestly hope La Russa runs Tepera back out there if the Sox have a lead. Get the guy's confidence back and show that little blip last night is in the rear view.

  2. Poor outfield positioning. They should be on the other side of the fence.

  3. I would be all for it if Abreu was hit on purpose. But that was not the case. Dick measuring contests sometimes make sense. Not here. The AL Central has surrendered, perhaps for several years. Just keep your eye on the prize.

  10. A whole week basically? Put him on the IL and give him 10 days, and call someone up so we have some depth. And send him to Charlotte for 2 or 3 more days to get in better baseball condition prior to calling up this time.

  20. I know that a lot of what I'm about to type is NOT what you're saying -- I don't mean to put words in your mouth. But some thoughts and reactions for the sake of the entire conversation: - When people rail against the bunt, they are railing against the sacrifice bunt. The bunt-for-hit is an entirely different animal, and no significant group of people has an issue with it if it's used in a situation where it has a good chance to be successful. - It's easy to say you love something when it works, and easy to ignore it in the much more frequent instances when it doesn't. Cesar was only safe because Jose Ramirez made a throwing error. Ramirez probably only makes that error because the pitcher almost ran him over. If you ran that same play ten times, Cesar is certainly out more often than he is safe, and probably by a large margin. - People hate the sacrifice bunt because it leads to fewer runs in almost every situation. Very few people disagree that smallball is fun, but what's even more fun is winning games. Generally speaking, people want the team to do the thing that makes them most likely to win. - Even ignoring the lowered run expectancy of a typical sacrifice bunt, there is a significant rate of failure in even making the bunt play. I watch a ton of Japanese baseball, and they bunt probably literally ten times more often than MLB. They are also WAY better at executing the bunt, and even they fail (pop-up, foul out, lead runner cut down, etc.) a shockingly high percentage of the time -- like probably 20% of the time. It is significantly more likely that the batter will fail to execute the bunt than it is that the defense will fail to record the out. All of the above said, I didn't have any issue with Cesar's bunt. He did it because he thought it was the best way to get on base, he thought the defense wasn't ready, and he figured the sac bunt situation was the worst case result. I don't think it was a bad play all. But it doesn't make any sense to take an instance where a bunt works and try to apply it to an argument about bunting in general, outside of context. All of the above stands despite Cesar's bunt being a good play; don't take a good bunt and use it to argue in support of bad bunts.

  22. People who have an issue with Tony La Russa running out and defending the players have never played a competitive sport in their life. What would these nerds (like Ben Verlander) be saying if La Russa was sitting in the dugout after Abreu got hit for a 2nd time?

  25. Cubs were dismantled and downgraded to a AAA team today. Sad for a major market. All their current major stars are gone, on top of Darvish, Schwarber,Caratini at the beginning of the season. If I were a Cub fan, I would not be happy as they had a core group that could have contended, if the Cubs would have kept Darvish and invested in quality starting pitching. Their starters this season were pretty bad. All excitement in Chicago now belongs to the Sox. Let’s take advantage and take over Chicago baseball. Sox reign!

  26. Me thinks many disillusioned cub fans thought Ricketts was going to buy whatever talent needed to keep winning. And that cost was never ever an issue. Turns out Tom wasnt the cash cow w unlimited spending many thought he was

  27. While 2B is not the hardest position to field a decent player at, Madrigal makes close to the league minimum. He gives you the option to go get a real right fielder, not the shitshow that we have seen there and will continue to see the rest of the year. I still don’t think acquiring Kimbrel was a good move if it involves giving away 15 future WAR fpr a reliever that is not on a bargain deal in any shpe or form. I wish the Sox had addressed the RF situation with their available resources and gotten a decent reliever like Rodriguez instead. I just hate paying a premium for something as fickle as relief pitching. Paying huge prices(money or prospects) for relievers almost never works out.

  29. I don’t know if anyone has said this one but I haven’t seen this yet. One other benefit? It’s LaRussa proof. There’s no more “hey I have to see if Evan Marshall can handle the 8th inning against Trout and Rendon” or “I can’t pitch Kopech today in the 8th what if I need a long reliever 2 days from now” or “sure Bummer needs work but I might need him in the 8th so I have to save him” or “I have to use Hendriks as the runner in the 10th.” We won’t lose a tie game in the 9th because LaRussa is saving his closer for a save situation because he can still have one to collect the stat. This clears out like half of the items in my WTF was LaRussa thinking list. I’m sure it’s still possible for him to blow a game with Ruiz on the mound in the 8th for reasons no human will get, but over this season ending LaRussa bullpen confusion losses would be like 3 or 4 more wins easily. Maybe more.

  31. It would have been nice had he checked on Jose before Pushing Pair ez away. And I do love the fake outrage where he is holding on to Cairo for dear life, knowing that there is a decent chance he gets his ass kicked if he got into anything real, but as a Sox fan who has always wondered why this guy is managing the team, this isn’t really embarrassing. I do wonder about his logic. This clearly was unintentional and no one felt worse about it than the pitcher, yet he almost cheers when Yermin was intentionally thrown at earlier, using it wasn’t at the head as partial reason not to care. Well, intentionally trying to hit someone has a better shot of being a beanball than just trying to throw inside, and other body parts can be injured by getting hit by a sphere coming at you 97 MPH. Just thankfully Jose is OK.

  32. 2 on this date notes... Last year, Nick Madrigal made his major league debut. And 30 years ago tonight, Robin Ventura hit a walk off grand slam off Goose Gossage for a 10-8 win vs the Rangers. It capped Ventura's July-.357/.431/.739/1.170, 8 hr, 12 doubles. 4:45 mark

  33. Did you miss when the Sox had bases loaded and didn't score one run? We can find examples of how every strategy works and every strategy fails. Winning teams beat the market. They have more tools available and can effectively use them.

  36. Wouldn't it make more sense to be more critical, passionate, and invested in the outcomes when the team is really good, than when the team is terrible? Doesn't make much sense to be all in and results oriented for a shit team. Lot of posters on here telling others to stfu lately if they don't bow at the totem of white sox baseball, and I find it pretty hilarious. If you don't like something someone said, poke fun or rip their position by supporting yours. Telling them to shut up because they said something that hurt your emotional state is just funny as ffff

  39. This team has lost for over a decade, and now they are in first place with a 9 game lead entering August with the best pitching staff in the AL and people STILL b**** and whine about them. You don't know how good we have it right now. You must not have been with the team through the rebuild. Have a nice evening!

  40. Agree with this...Cleveland was class on the HBP and I think the team took note. Shouldn’t carry over. Need to start hitting better with RISP and they will go on a little run I hope. Get Eloy and Robert back and start mashing.

  41. I really liked what Hernandez did in his debut. Got a hit that resulted in a 2 run inning and laid down an incredibly well placed and smart bunt (I don't like bunts, mind you) in the 8th to get 2 runners into scoring position when we really needed one more run.
