Goodwin will get the headlines but the unsung hero in this game was Reynaldo Lopez. What a job he did.13 points

Goodwin is on a pace, which over a full season would produce the following stat line: 32 doubles, 4 triples, 24 homers and 80 RBI's. He is making almost nothing and is not supposed to be a regular, let alone a star. Compare his production to Moncada's, who it considered a 5 tool super star and has a big contract. Oh, Goodwin's OPS is .788 compared to Moncada's .780. The point is that he has filled in quite well and has even delivered in the clutch, on several occasions. OK, he's not a great fielder. You're getting a lot of value from him and he provides one of the few solid LH bats on the roster. The negativity and hyperbole is embarrassing.. If you don't like the player, that's fine. We're all entitled to our opinions. However, it would be nice if people were at least fair and magnanimous, when they opine. Back to Moncada: He is falling back into his bad habit of leaving close pitches up to the umpire, when he's in a two strike count. He rarely has long at bats, where he successfully manages to stay alive, fouling off pitches, until he gets something that he can drive. He hits a very high % of line drives, on his batted balls, but he simply refuses to swing, unless he thinks it's a strike. That approach is great, until the hitter has 2 strikes. That habit is precisely what made him so ineffective in 2018. It is conventional wisdom that a hitter should be in protective mode, with 2 strikes. It's baffling why he persists in this overly selective approach, with 2 strikes. Again, we're all entitled to our own opinions, but I personally find him very frustrating to watch at times. He could be so much better. Other guys seem to learn and get better, with more experience and at bats. Yoan seems like he is regressing. I remember when some here were absolutely convinced that Adam Engel would never be a Major League hitter. He has worked hard and developing the skill to become a respectable hitter. I wish that we saw that same kind of growth with Yoan. I'm still hopeful, but he's in his prime now, so it should happen soon, if it's going to happen. He's approaching 2.000 MLB at bats. That is usually enough for a guy to realize his potential. Sorry for the rant.6 points

I don’t see the point in complaining about Goodwin. Whining about a backup for not playing like a starter is like whining about a fifth starter for not being an ace. He’s a bench player who’s been super valuable in his role and saving our asses through devastating injuries. Thank god for Goodwin, and Billy for that matter.6 points

Brian silenced his many sorry ass detractors on this board today. The bat flip was for all of them. I friggin loved it !!5 points

Sox debuted tonight the new Nasty Boys 2. Bummer in the 7 th.; Kimbrel in the 8 th and Hendriks in the 9 th. Shades of the great Reds Nasty Boys 1 trio of Charlton, Dibble and Myers. Hope we have many opportunities to showcase this band of nasty brothers.4 points

I don’t dislike Brian Goodwin. He’s overall been pretty darn solid and at times a great stop gap. But he’s a legitimately awful OF. It’s hard to watch. He’s cost the Sox many times, including several recently. I dont think it’s some crime to want him nowhere near the starting the lineup. He’s not good.4 points

Is Bryce Harper a professional? Go look at what he did 3 days ago in RF . 2 long lazy fly balls he's camped under and somehow they went over his head. I rather have Brian Goodwin who is making squat look bad in the OF than my $300M OF. No errors is no errors how is that generous ? 2 difficult plays 2 non catches . At least he didn't kick the ball away.4 points

If you think Goodwin is getting DFA'd, it just comes from your dislike of him. Sheets can be sent down and brought back up in a month. Goodwin can't. Now you know what they will do4 points

Im generally very positive Sox fan…but that home run doesn’t change the fact that he’s close to playable in the OF and has cost the some NUMEROUS times with terrible defense. But he’s got some pop and can hit righties and that’s something this team sorely lacks. It’s not his fault this team is so banged up. He’s also not very good. But he’s gonna stay around, and hopefully he starts catching the ball.4 points

I just so so so want a lineup with Robert, Grandal and Eloy. I’m so tired of some of this.4 points

They only have 4 strikeouts over 3 IP… lame.3 points

would have been better with smoke shooting from the goose imo3 points

No errors is, to say the least, quite generous. He inexplicably took his eye off the ball yesterday as he put his glove up. Today’s non-catch also hit squarely inside his glove. Professionals make those plays.3 points

It's always a little odd when someone who is generally known as a scrub comes in and does a great job filling a huge void by hitting way better than expected has a bit of a slump , prevents a HR but doesn't catch the ball and or attempt a sliding catch but not catch it and people are all over him. 8/1 1-3,BB, 2 R ,1 RBI Game winning walk off HR. 7/31 1-3, 2 BB ,3 R ,1 RBI , HR 7/30 1-3 1 BB 1 RBI Total: 3-9 ,4 BB, 7/13 .538 OBP, 3 RBI, 5 RS, 2 HR's and 1 of them a walk off. I dare someone to find one other guy who did as consistently well this series. Mind you this is a scrub and Moncada, Anderson and Abreu are not. Also no errors . I know we can all get mad that the ball is not sticking in his glove on difficult plays. Maybe he starts using a new glove soon3 points

I am not for trading Moncada but certainly don't think he is untouchable. If you can trade Madrigal you can trade anybody.?3 points

That Bob tweet is so fuckin on brand lmao gotta respect his commitment to the bit3 points

Yes, and Lambert did a great job keeping it close despite not having great stuff. Sox lose if either don’t dig deep and give the team a tied game heading into Bummer, Kimbrel and Hendriks.3 points

They're definitely not trying to hit Abreu, not sure what TLR wants really. No way Quantrill should get thrown out for that.3 points

I don’t agree, but more importantly what is it with your constant use of this weird phrase, old sport? Are you posting from inside an F. Scott Fitzgerald novel?3 points

That was never going to happen with this ownership group. These are not affluent sportsmen operating the Sox.3 points

We're still banking way too much on Robert and Eloy being healthy and back to form. And there's Cleveland immediately capitalizing after we don't score.2 points

I'd love for the Sox to sign Bryant and Rizzo this offseason then trade Moncada and Jimenez for a haul of prospects.2 points

I just don’t get why the Lambert start didn’t happen in KC. Punting two games in 4 days is ridiculous2 points

The Sox #1 goal is to be healthy for the playoffs. It does us no good if the team is on fumes. Especially in the pitching staff, we are already seeing signs of maybe taking on water. Hopefully this is where Tony's HOF guy experience pays off and he can shoot the gap between winning and not using up every thing in the regular season. If people can't handle that, they need to find a new sport or team to follow for a while.2 points
-
I get it. You’re a nervous-type guy, right? This might help- the Sox are going to lose…probably AT LEAST 20 more games these next 2 months. Gotta be able to handle that. And keep in mind they are going to want guys fresh for October. Brace for some weird lineups and some Lamberts2 points
