  1. So 2/3 of a season of Eloy Jiminez plus 1/2 of a season of Luis Robert equals only 3.7 WAR? That seems on the low side.

  2. Hamilton's "injury" has always been there. He never fully healed and came back early. That's why he wouldn't hit left handed anymore.

  3. Brian Goodwin reached base 7 of 13 times this series, scored 5 runs, and hit a walk-off home run. I’m thrilled he is on this team. Unsung hero.

  5. It's because the Pirates know how to win. The Sox don't. JR is getting played by his front office. Horrible, horrible. They need to start over. The fact that there are actual people who take time out of their day to post this type of stuff on a White Sox message board when the team is basically cruising to the playoffs despite missing almost half of its line-up for a good chunk of the season, just fascinates me.

  6. Locked on Sox podcast mentioned that Kimbrel's child has medical issues and that the Cubs really wanted to try and keep him in Chicago so he didn't have to move his child. Knowing this, I think the Sox will probably pick up that option and not trade him. And that's fine with me. He's really fucking good.

  7. Probably to the Rays. Where he hits 35 homers in 2022.

  8. I wrote a thread about a month ago asking if we would ever get to see a season where we get Eloy and Robert at their best in the same season because they are both so frequently injured. I should have included Moncada and perhaps Vaughn too. If we envision them all playing 150 games in the same season and all of them being able to reach their vast potential in the same season try imagining that lineup . Eloy .300 40+ Hr's, Robert .300 35+ Hr's , Moncada .300 25 + bombs and Vaughn .300 25+ HR's. That's the season I am hoping to see. Maybe next year now that the Sox resigned Lynn.

  9. My vote is to cut bait with Rutherford A 69 wRC+ in AAA at age 24 is not going to be missed by the organization. He never developed the pop or hit tool he was supposed to.

  10. "CaliSoxFan..." and others, like myself, are not trying to say that Goodwin is a great player, or that he should be signed to a long term deal. I think that our point is simply that he has been a serviceable, inexpensive substitute for our injury devastated outfield. After all, for a good portion of the season, the Sox have been without our top 4 outfield regulars. The guy has contributed and has helped to fill the void. He was never expected to be Adam Engel, or Luis Robert on defense, or to hit like Eloy. He has been pretty much what he was with the Angels, in 2019 and part of last year. He provides a little power, from the left side and can play all 3 outfield positions, although none of them particularly well. His splits against RHP are actually the best of his career, so far for the Sox. He's hitting .282, with a .383 OBP and a .553 SLG. HIs OPS is .937, which is tops on the team, for anyone with over 50 at bats. That production versus RHP has really helped balance the lineup, which has a recent history of struggling versus right handers. None of these players are without flaws and Goodwin is certainly not even close to being a star. However, when a guy is brought in, on a very inexpensive one year contract and contributes to a winning ball club, he deserves to be lauded and appreciated. He has certainly lived up to, and probably exceeded, most people's expectations. As a fan, I simply prefer to applaud his efforts and root for him to continue, until this team can get healthy.

  11. Here and there ? Try 7 times out of 13 plate appearances. Also 2 Hr's in the 3 game series, 5 runs scored and batted .333

  12. Honestly...Hahn should throw trade feelers out to TB every year just to find out who Tampa finds interesting to acquire...just to update their depth chart.

  13. The most import parts of catching aren't in the box score: game planning, working with pitchers before and during games, calling, framing, monitoring defensive positioning, saving wild pitches. How the pitchers feel about throwing to him or Collins is a big part of the decision process. If everyone is back and healthy, then the line-up can afford a lesser hitting catcher.

  14. I said this in the other thread…if he’s kept next year…he’s LaRussa insurance. How many games have the white Sox lost after the starter was pulled because they were saving Hendriks for a save or saving Bummer? Two of the games in the first series with LAA, the Foster gets shelled in the 6th game, the game where Tony didn’t know the rule book, the Heuer shelling against Milwaukee, Rodons start against the Astros, there was at least one with Crochet pitching the 10th, I think there was a Ruiz disaster somewhere in there, I think there is a Marshall collapse I’m forgetting, probably more. If you can use a Bummer or one of the big guys when trouble starts, a loss becomes a 50/50 game, and we’ve probably got 10+ of those this season where having this extra closer for LaRussa to use while still having someone get credit for the all important save stat could have major leverage on a win.

  16. See I this is what makes it interesting. This isn't them acting like a normal team. They traded their closer last week to the Mariners! To me this underscores that you can't qualify Kimbrel under "closer" category. The Rays know that relievers are fickle and worth trading when they get hot ...but were hot after Craig Kimbrel. He is a huge weapon this year. What he is next year...there is a lot of flexibility.

  20. I think it is pretty obvious that their predictive WAR model is largely underestimating the young players here. I also think the one number you really can't touch is how many guys have played through injuries because so many other main players have been hurt, and how that has hurt production.

  21. I like Goodwin and while watching his at-bat on the subway platform actually felt like he was gonna hit a walkoff. Dude fits this team's attitude like a glove and I want him in October because when he does cool shit, it electrifies the stadium. My problem is it went like this: Any time a left-hander hits a home run, Lillian immediately ignores that defense / OBP is a part of the game and starts pounding the desk like J. Jonah Jameson asking for pictures of Spider-Man, ragging on Moncada and singing the lefties praises.

  25. At my age, I can barely walk much less run. The only time I run is when I have to take a leak. Then, I hightail it. Otherwise, I don't have the motivation, even when a good-looking blond walks by. With all the complications, I'm not chasing her. So, I grab my walking stick, find a nice park bench and feed the pigeons. I can always fantasize about the blond if I want. I'm not a LaRussa fan, but I'm not piling on. If he can make it to home plate from the dugout, more power to him. But I would like to see him venture out there with a cane. The hell with the ageism.

  26. There has been plenty to be upset about with some of the decisions LaRussa has made in-game, as well as some of his decisions on what to say to the media. I had zero issue with what he did last night.

  27. White Sox star Seby Zavala announced his retirement today. He completed a 14 year career all spent with the Pale Hose. During that time the fan favorite was a two time league MVP, World Series MVP, 7 time gold glove winner and 5 time all star. Zavala amassed 237 HR and 895 RBI in his career. Typically down playing personal accomplishments, Zavala said he was most proud of his team winning three World Series titles during the 2020s. He took over as the Sox primary catcher following Yasmani Grandal. He became a fan favorite on the night he hit his first three home runs in the same game. Always crediting others, he credits Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa with igniting his career, " I remember being pinch hit for with a 2-0 count and thinking never again" the player said. His statue was unveiled this week during the teams final home stand of the year..................

  36. Lopez's stuff looked amazing today. He was hitting 97-98 and dotting it right on the corners against Ramirez and Reyes. If a relief role is going to make him useful, then by all means, keep him there. I think it would be beneficial for him to take over after Keuchel goes 2 times around the order. He basically takes Kopech's old role of throwing the 6th and 7th when the starter can't go that far.

  41. I’m thinking this is the most important stretch: ALDS October 7-14 And if successful: ALCS October 15-24 & World Series October 26-November 3 For the rest of this season, I’m most considered: Getting through with proper load management for the starters. Building Kopech up to at least 2-3 + innings Robert and Grandal regaining health and timing and Keeping our collective fingers crossed that Eloy can somehow be healthy in the playoffs, especially since they are insistent on using him in LF. As a fan, I like them to win games, of course, but it’s secondary at this stage of the season. Hoping Tony can channel a Phil Jackson mindset, not a Tom Thibodeau mindset, over the final two months.

  43. Well if that rumor had legs, they were talking about taking Colson Montgomery at #10, getting him underslot, and taking more high schoolers intead. So no they didn't miss out on the signing of someone they drafted, but they would take a haircut on the quality of the class for sure.

  44. The Mets should just give him the $6 million anyway. Kumar Rocker is a bargain for that money and it's a much better alternative than taking the #11 pick next year after basically punting the rest of their draft this year to sign Rocker. Just horrendous process.
