Tepera with the vaccine outing...nearly 100% effective.7 points

It isn't even that TLR been around the game longer then most of these know it all posters have been alive and has seen it all. He knows what the Indians did was reckless by calling a pitch high and inside with a pitcher who had lost his command. He also articulated the issue of what happened perfectly and why he was upset/disappointed with the Indians and to be quite honest in the olden days the next Indians hitter would have gotten one right in the ribs. They didn't. So what exactly are the wusses on the board angry about? The fact he defended Abreu? Called out the Indians? If he didn't would they have been happy? Nope. The reason? Their hatred of TLR is completely not related to baseball it isn't honestly even to do with his DUI. They are political bigots and they will continue to attack one the greatest managers of all time as somehow unqualified no matter how ridiculous he continues to make them look in the process.7 points

Whew! I was worried I might have to watch 1 game this year without Leury Garcia.4 points

I think the fact that he looked his best in the 6th by throwing just 1 fastball speaks to how good his stuff really is. If he figures out his fastball control, he's gonna look like Gerrit Cole out there.3 points

Who is Collins pinch hitting for when everyone is healthy? And I don’t think we’re ever starting Collins over Grandal based on a right handed pitcher starting. For a full game Seby’s glove behind the plate is more valuable than Collins bat and I don’t see where Collins bat is even used off the bench when Robert and Eloy are back.3 points

I am not sure how you came to the political bigot conclusion. Go back and look at the hiring and numerous posters objected because of his DUI record, especially as a repeat offender. I think TLR has done a very good job on the field and in the clubhouse this year as well as the past. But off the field he is a loser and is really lucky he has avoided serious charges.3 points

How can a guy who hasn't played a full MLB season be considered an everyday top player for years to come? It seems like at a minimum he should prove he could do it once in his life before receiving that designation. He's played 29 games in one season and 54 in another, had serious injuries in both, and folks want to pen him in the starting lineup for the next five years? 2021 seems like a good year to contend for a title. Maybe 2022 or 2023 with a healthy Nick would have been a better chance. Most of us have watched enough baseball to know things change drastically from year to year. This year is much more certain than next. Go all in.3 points

The problem recently is that he's not getting a lot of pitches to hit that way. Pitchers are just trying to jam him high and inside and he always swings at it.2 points

Vaughn has a higher OPS than Moncada, Abreu, and Anderson now.2 points

Do we never have to watch Collins again after Grandal comes back? Cause I would enjoy that.2 points

I would like to see Moncada and his .363 OBP in the second spot instead of Hernandez's .308 against lefties but pretty much my only complaint.2 points

It uhhhh certainly seems like. Zavala is back there again today.2 points

I don't know what LaRussa's exact politics are and could care less. I'm not even saying he is doing a bad job this year. My concern was if he was the right choice in the long run. This was a big decision, and it seemed to be made with little thought.2 points

Not sure we can count the Derozan chickens before they hatch after the moves the SAS made yesterday. I am completely rejuvenated though by watching the FO yesterday. Talent-wise, it's not much different than I expected. But showcasing how player contracts can be converted into exceptions and S&Ts to create more flexibility makes me feel like we are finally able to move forward. It was completely disorienting after watching how the bulls operate seeing how the Heat, with no cap space, just signed Jimmy Butler and forced a S&T. it's like wait, you don't need to just dismantle the team to the studs to make room for a player? you aren't completely ruined when you decide to sign Kirk Hinrich for 3 million and take you out of a max? Amazing.2 points

Man, I didn't realize just how solid Caruso was. I guess he was the best on guard defender in the league last year. Ball is a good defender as well. If they can add a guy like Whiteside, I could definitely see the Bulls making a Hawks like jump.2 points

Can you give an example of an "affluent sportsmen", because I believe I speak for a lot of us that we don't know how you are using this term. Are the hedge fund owners of the Dodgers and Mets affluent sportsmen? The Steinbrenner Family? Mark Cuban? The fleabag Rickett Family? Any other affluent sportsmen in MLB ownership suites? All signs point to the Reinsdorf children taking over when Jerry steps down or passes. If the Reinsdorf children take up fox hunting, sailing, or equestrian sports like showjumping, steeplechase or polo, would they become affluent sportsmen/women, and would that improve White Sox fortunes? Can we expect Grey Poupon at concession stands?2 points

That"s why the Yankees peddled him off on Kenny-Hahn. They knew he had a low ceiling. Just because Reinsdorf doesn't spend on elite scouts and on-field difference makers doesn't mean other ownerships don't. Sox fans are going to be in catatonic shock when they finally experience what is like having affluent sportsmen running the organization. It will happen because Reinsdorf can't / won't spend to keep this team together and / or improve it.2 points

I agree . The automatic position of some on this board is anti-TLR so it is difficult to even take anything they say regarding him seriously. It is perfectly reasonable to be irritated when the opposing pitcher is missing his spots by so much that one of your players is taking a 97 mph fastball to the head.2 points

I said this in the other thread…if he’s kept next year…he’s LaRussa insurance. How many games have the white Sox lost after the starter was pulled because they were saving Hendriks for a save or saving Bummer? Two of the games in the first series with LAA, the Foster gets shelled in the 6th game, the game where Tony didn’t know the rule book, the Heuer shelling against Milwaukee, Rodons start against the Astros, there was at least one with Crochet pitching the 10th, I think there was a Ruiz disaster somewhere in there, I think there is a Marshall collapse I’m forgetting, probably more. If you can use a Bummer or one of the big guys when trouble starts, a loss becomes a 50/50 game, and we’ve probably got 10+ of those this season where having this extra closer for LaRussa to use while still having someone get credit for the all important save stat could have major leverage on a win.2 points

White Sox star Seby Zavala announced his retirement today. He completed a 14 year career all spent with the Pale Hose. During that time the fan favorite was a two time league MVP, World Series MVP, 7 time gold glove winner and 5 time all star. Zavala amassed 237 HR and 895 RBI in his career. Typically down playing personal accomplishments, Zavala said he was most proud of his team winning three World Series titles during the 2020s. He took over as the Sox primary catcher following Yasmani Grandal. He became a fan favorite on the night he hit his first three home runs in the same game. Always crediting others, he credits Hall of Fame manager Tony LaRussa with igniting his career, " I remember being pinch hit for with a 2-0 count and thinking never again" the player said. His statue was unveiled this week during the teams final home stand of the year..................1 point

He is a catcher so actually catching well is part of his job and only helps the Sox....1 point

I think everytime I try to really dive deep into a hot take on intl it's so hard because overall now...Yolbert looks like there is a good shot he becomes a MLer. Yolquie really did add power. So ... if you compare the ML production sox will look good, esp with Abreu etc. But what we dislike about it also isn't wrong, it is causing depth issues. I think what makes me most uneasy about it is currently the sox drafting and intl resembles the same strategy rather than being complementary. Some orgs now are relying on INTL to add the young, high upside position players while the draft they are adding more advanced skills for depth out of the draft. CLE is an example of this (however, not exact fit - they also add extremely young players through the draft). Maybe you could say the sox are adding that more highly skilled depth out of Cuba since they are older and more likely to provide MLB depth. But the issue I have is if Shirley is going to use the draft to try and maximize top 50 guys on his board at the expense of more top 250 guys, and Paddy is going to use INTL to target 1-2 high likelihood guys at the expense of a larger class...then we have very little room for error. They just both have to be right which is unlikely no matter how good you are. Yet - we also have to factor that Paddy during the penalty years may have added some real depth in Jose Rodriguez, Ramos, etc. In fact the post-penalty years have seemed far less helpful but we will see. It's just a really complicated answer that definitely has successes but feels risky.1 point

Honestly...Hahn should throw trade feelers out to TB every year just to find out who Tampa finds interesting to acquire...just to update their depth chart.1 point

Locked on Sox podcast mentioned that Kimbrel's child has medical issues and that the Cubs really wanted to try and keep him in Chicago so he didn't have to move his child. Knowing this, I think the Sox will probably pick up that option and not trade him. And that's fine with me. He's really fucking good.1 point

I'm sure the rays had figured Glasnow was incompatible to pay in arb vs. his injury risk and became another Snell situation. Remember the old rays thing was keeping pitchers down in AAA impossibly long so that they were paying pre-arb prices for their prime years.1 point

So 2/3 of a season of Eloy Jiminez plus 1/2 of a season of Luis Robert equals only 3.7 WAR? That seems on the low side.1 point

At my age, I can barely walk much less run. The only time I run is when I have to take a leak. Then, I hightail it. Otherwise, I don't have the motivation, even when a good-looking blond walks by. With all the complications, I'm not chasing her. So, I grab my walking stick, find a nice park bench and feed the pigeons. I can always fantasize about the blond if I want. I'm not a LaRussa fan, but I'm not piling on. If he can make it to home plate from the dugout, more power to him. But I would like to see him venture out there with a cane. The hell with the ageism.1 point

Especially in this one. It is throwing a baseball. Even the greatest don’t get it right where they want it plenty. To say he has no command so the catcher can’t call for an inside pitch is a joke. Besides if he has no command and the catcher wants it inside, wouldn’t that mean there is a decent chance it won’t be inside? Have you ever called out a catcher for calling for an inside pitch from a pitcher with no command? If there is one post before this incident, I will say I am sorry I am wrong. But it has never happened. What Tony did was for show, and that is fine. Hopefully he didn’t pull a hammy. You can see how he was holding on to Cairo when he was getting into it. I was at the game and had no idea it was he who started it. Tony has an issue with guys getting beaned and there is nothing wrong with that. But accidents do happen. Abreu gets hit a ton. I was at a Sox game in the 90s when Tony was managing Oakland, and I think it was Bobby Thigpen beaned one of their players. Tony ran out , took the bat, threw it against the netting behind home plate and started getting into it with Carlton Fisk. Batters get hit. It is unfortunate, especially if it’s the head or another area which causes injury. But it is part of the game.1 point
