Per Twitter, Bassitt is conscious and alert and they think his eye is OK. Got some stitches below the eye and they’re testing for fractures. Sounds like relatively good news at this point.4 points

Kelley is 3 years younger than the avg player in Low A while Dahlquist and Thompson are 2 years younger. Chill4 points

This will be COMPLETELY ignored in every single psychotic, homicidal post in the game thread.4 points

If anything I’d wish the Sox to align their intl and draft strategies better. They were both kinda doing the same thing going after more advanced players for a while, rather than taking moonshots with lots of 16 year olds in latam but going with advanced college players. Going cespedes/colas while going more high school recently makes some sense. But let’s be honest when comparing the Sox. For farm systems, they are at a disadvantage to the smaller market teams getting less draft and intl budget, and worse compmpicks. And then comparing them to yanks/Dodgers, who print money and have like 4 front offices worth of personnel. The Sox can and should do better, but going in waves is going to be likely.3 points

Other than serious injury, there's no chance the Sox don't pick up the option. If the Sox budget doesn't allow for keeping both closers, someone will trade for him.3 points

That's the whole art of pitching - throw something that *looks* good for a split second and get them to swing at something they can't hit. You don't want every pitch thrown in the strike zone, it's not a videogame.3 points

Pitches that look way outside from a CF camera perspective, look a lot different in the batter's box when he is hitting the outside half with his 98+ fastball.3 points

https://www.mlb.com/prospects/stats/affiliates?teamId=145&date=08/17/2021 https://www.milb.com/scores/chicago-white-sox/2021-08-17 McClure pitching for AAA on the same day as Rodon's slot in Sox rotation. Worth following? Probably not this year but Not sure if DSL will play today post storms. This is not meant to be political/religous but having spent time in the Caribbean, if you say prayers, say a prayer for the Haitian people. Lots of poverty to begin with and corregated tin huts don't hold up well in earthquakes and storms. If you have seen the poverty, you realize how good we have it. Bmags, welcome home! Hope vacation was great.2 points

Long drive so missed the game. Game thread with page count in the teens. All I can ask for!2 points

Eloy's English is impressive. he's near fluid in conversation.2 points

Not even close, I remember being at Soxfest one year and I was sitting next to one of his kids. Ozzie said something and the kid leaned over to me and asked what he said? Til this day I have no idea what he said.2 points

Didn't watch the game or see the play. Happy for the Sox blowout, scared for Bassit. I said it once I'll say it again, pitchers need to start wearing helmets. Balls are coming back in excess of 100 mph. We don't need a death on the field to make it happen. Do it to prevent the death or long term head injury.2 points

Congrats to Mike Wright. Gotta be a thrill for he and his family.2 points

The Sox spent the last 5 years aligning their minor leagues to getting star players to the majors by last year. That's what's wrong with the system. In the last year they have shifted back to younger players to build back for down the road. This has been by design.2 points

An Earl Weaver style 3 run homer goes a long way towards a nice game!2 points

If Katz somehow fixes Rodon and Lopez in the same season, he might be the greatest pitching coach in Sox history.2 points

lopez needs to upgrade his chain game, he's earned it.2 points

Lamb sure looks excited Stoney. What a stupid comment. That was his teammate last year.2 points

Yeah - that was the least excited I have been almost ever for a homer.2 points

I hope we get some good news on Bassitt before the end of the game2 points

Yeah really hoping his eye and vision will be ok2 points

All face wounds bleed a lot so hopefully it's just a cut and his eye is unaffected2 points

Oakland will trade Bassitt this off season for a haul.2 points

Bassitt didn't really figure it out until age 30. Soxtalk would never have applied that level of patience to any of our young pitchers.2 points

Ace vs Ace (numbers don't lie). Should be must watch.2 points

Eh he couldn't throw his slider for a strike or anywhere near the plate. You can't tip your fastball when the other team knows that's the only pitch you can throw a strike on.2 points

DJ mentioned adjustments with Liam’s slider worked on in a bullpen yesterday. Hope that is all that was needed to get him back on track. Kudos again to Tony for using Kopech for two innings. Hope he would have done the same if it were still tied (pulling Keuchel after 5 w no “win” opportunity and no “hold” for Kopech). Kopech should be able to handle two inning outings twice a week from here on out. Keuchel battled back after a very shaky first time through the order. Tomorrow will be harder with Bassitt on the mound and heavy bullpen usage with Reynaldo likely limited to 3-4 innings at this point. Cheers!2 points

The funny thing is Collins is terrible defensively but Seby is stout, yet in half as many games Seby has twice as many PB. Collins has a much better CS percentage, Collins does have 4 errors to 1. The WP with each catching is a similar number if you just count pace. If Collins is pure garbage, Seby is as well. One of the things I always hated about LaRussa and I mentioned this before the season is he always falls in love with the weakest players on the roster. It's almost like he is doing this to try to prove he is smarter than everyone.2 points

I kinda like this guy. Rays Attendance: What is the most important ‘makeup’ trait in a ballplayer? And which teams value makeup/character the most, you’ve found? 1:18 Kevin Goldstein: I know it’s a cliche, but love of the game is big for me. Even more important is that drive to improve and knowing that there’s always something to work on. Don: How do you think fans (who feel this way, at least) rationalize siding with owners over players while also constantly saying that Manfred is ruining the game? As if Manfred is anything more than a figurehead and mouthpiece for those owners? 1:19 Kevin Goldstein: Um . . . without getting too political, on a cultural level this country has turned bosses/busines owners into heroes and workers into less than that. Joe: Is it difficult to square any potential political leanings one might have about workers (say, they should be paid for their labor) and being in a front office? It seems sort of impossible not to treat players like commodities to some extent. 1:33 Kevin Goldstein: Yes, it can be difficult, and I personally believe players should never be referred to in commodified language, like ‘assets’ for example Mac: Do you think they’ll move the draft up? This summer is/was an absolute mess. 1:36 Kevin Goldstein: Man, I hope so, but it did well in terms of in a public facing way. JB: From your experience (writing, scouting, FO, etc.), is there a logical fix for service time? Seems like a good opportunity for MLB to also enhance its brand by getting young upcoming stars going earlier/without controversy. 1:37 Kevin Goldstein: I’ve always liked the concept of just starting service time at signing date.1 point

The eye test tells me Hendriks is the closer. Tony is doing this the right way. The three pitchers are being used in the right order to close games.1 point

I am biased because I watched Wright pitch at ECU in college. He has had his moments over the years. Not many, but he went to Korea during Covid and pitched and did pretty well. Happy to see him get another shot. Maybe he learned some things in Korea1 point

the White Sox have challenged 9 calls all year and rank in the bottom 5 of all of baseball. if this is a part of his job description, then he's failing at it; regardless of what else he does for the team. if he's so valuable elsewhere move him there and get him out of this position. i know you love to stan for larussa and i guess now kash, but get a grip.1 point

" Jerry Narron isn't necessarily a spry chicken at 65 years old, young in Tony's orbit but a generation removed from A. J. Hinch and his peers. One of several areas the Sox would definitely improve on would be defensive shifting. Hinch's Tigers are 4th in baseball, Sox 27th from last" ========== There are challenges on plays that appear to be justified on broadcast replay that are then not upheld on review. I don't have time to look for a link because I have to work today but the reality is that close plays cannot always be determined by video replay. AJ Hinch in charge of a video system? LOL. He should have been banned from baseball for cheating and has no business managing a major league team now, none.1 point

This is such bullshit. Kash is an incredible guy and he does a ton for the organization. It's a very difficult job and a totally fucked up system but they call him out to appease the idiot mob. That's fuckin bullshit.1 point
