Yes, but 7 out of 20 is large enough to show that it's not as big of a deal that some people here seem to think...especially when you consider that regular season matchups can largely depend on the pitching matchups, where your #5 might be going up against your opponent's ace. If we were 23-16 against winning teams instead of 18-21, for example, I would not be any more confident in our chances to win the World Series. Get the team healthy and get hot at the right time.

Here's the thing. If you take the MLB LF's with at least 500 innings, and line them all up defensively according to Fangraphs defensive ratings, Andrew Vaughn is actually 6th out of the 19 qualifiers. Only the top 2! have a positive defensive rating LF. By definition that would make him above "average" he is even now above the middle of the pack level of defense.

For Lopez to get his due on Soxtalk, the foodies would have had to have been correct and he was traded. Then he would be a perennial Cy Young guy that every poster knew was there but Sox coaching clearly fucked him up. Since he is still with the White Sox, he is an "I'm not buying it even if he wins the next 5 Cy Youngs". An article I read said his issues earlier were due to the adjustments he was asked to make, and it has finally clicked in. Who knows if it will last, he has had some good months before, but I am going to enjoy this version as long as it lasts.

As is any statistic by itself. Now, if it is indeed 7 of 20, I wouldn't have guessed 35% of the time the team that wins the world series manages to win 3 series against teams with records of over .500, after having a losing record for the season against teams over .500. To me that is still pretty significant and interesting.

Collins has been terrible this past 6 weeks. Reylo was the worst pitcher in baseball last year. Gio was the worst pitcher in baseball in 2018. Rodon was a wasted top four draft pick. All have extraordinary potential. I am happy to admit that Collins has lost his confidence and has been terrible the last six weeks...but again...as recently as July 1st he had a .733 OPS, had caught a no hitter and was the preferred catcher for two of our best pitchers...and a lefty back up catcher. We will all cheer when we cut Collins loose this off season, as we did when Avasail left, and in a quiet move Tampa or Oakland or Milwaukee picks him up. Until then I will just get used to the deep thoughtful analysis, 10,000 times a game, of COLLINS SUCKS....just like I got used to the REYLO SUCKS chants.

Per Twitter, Bassitt is conscious and alert and they think his eye is OK. Got some stitches below the eye and they’re testing for fractures. Sounds like relatively good news at this point.
