70% of the earth is covered by water. The rest is covered by Luis Robert.5 points

I don't think Vaughn is a guaranteed playoff starter when they're facing a good RH SP.3 points

He slipped on damp grass. That has nothing to do with conditioning.3 points

Since we were talking about Luis Robert's otherworldly athletic ability... One of the greatest athletes of all time came to mind...Bo Jackson. https://youtu.be/m4CHqb-CHJI2 points

Jimmy Piersall used to call it playing "loosey goosey" when they do this late in the year when they have nothing to lose and no pressure. Of course he would always be using the term to refer to the Sox.2 points

You go right ahead I for one like his lack of command of the strike zone.2 points

My buddy asked me if I wanted to be in his beer league softball team and I said there was no way I was taking my North Brooklyn ass to Bay Ridge at 9am on Sunday mornings.2 points

no offense but I feel rec league soccer players never shut up about it. Like I never hear beer league softball players going on and on online about their shit.2 points

I'm resting a hammy as well. It can be painful. Unlike Tim, I'm playing because it's a championship game (rec league soccer). I'm sure Tim would play in his rec league championship soccer game as well. ?2 points

Bo Jackson isn't just looking at his numbers. His tools were probably the loudest of that generation before his body failed him. He also did it while dedicating half of his time to another sport. He might be the biggest "what if" in the history of baseball.2 points

I have said this before, and will say it again. Luis Robert is Bo Jackson if he had two good hips and played only baseball.2 points

Britt Burns performance in that game was memorable. Bad baserunning cost the Sox dearly. Hawk was livid. If they had gotten back to Lamar Hoyt the next day, they would have made it to the 1983 World Series and won it. I"m still haunted by that Tito Landrum homerun.2 points

I just don’t see anything in the post you quoted as “predicting doom.” Calling them underdogs doesn’t seem all that controversial. Nor does it really even matter, obviously.2 points

La Pantera has the tools to be the best Sox in history and a sweet ass logo. LuBob is playing catch with Josh Fields and Nicky Delmonico.2 points

You know my views - Robert has the potential to be the greatest Sox player in franchise history. And I legitimately mean that. I'm not saying he will be - but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it held true, nor would I be surprised if he was an MVP/best player in all of baseball. I was worried how he would come back from the injury and whether it would impact his explosiveness - but so far so good. The guy is just SO freaking talented and despite that he has so much room in his game left to grow too...which is what is scary (in a good way). It is also why when so many people on this site get worried about the ups and downs of baseball - I Just look across this roster and see so many guys with all star talent and in this case a guy with MVP talent that it is hard not to get giddy about the possibilities. We should all remember that - especially during the dog days of summer.2 points

Absolutely!!! I think the Orioles felt the same way. I've heard a few quotes, specifically from Ken Singleton, that the Orioles told themselves after Game 1 that "we'd better make sure to win the next 3 because we don't want any part of having to deal with this guy in a Game 5." No clue what Dybzinski was thinking on that play. The play was right in front of him. Gary Roenicke was on the ball IMMEDIATELY!! There was no way Law was going to score on that play. I've read that he thought Leyland would still send him because of how aggressive the White Sox ran the bases. But that's utterly ridiculous. Man it hurts to still talk about this!! Might have been nearly 40 years ago, but it doesn't seem that long.1 point

Tampa beat Boston and the Yankees lost last night, so this Sox-Astros matchup is looking more and more likely. As for who should be favored, look at total team fWAR: Houston: offense 27.8 (1st), pitching 13.4 (10th), total 41.2 Sox: offense 22.2 (4th), pitching 20.2 (1st), total 42.4 Looks a lot like a tossup to me.1 point

I definitely understand what you're saying but this wasn't really what I was asking, I tried to be careful with how I worded it because it's still entirely possible he flames out, plus he hasn't actually *done* that much yet, having only played 97 MLB games so far. "Potential" is really hard to project in the majors but I cannot remember a time when a guy in the White Sox system has this many tools, graded this highly, checking as many boxes at each level of development as he has.1 point

Earlier this week I was thinking about the Olympics and how Jamaican track and field fans love Allyson Felix and respect her as a legend even though she doesn't compete for them - she shows them love so they love her back. It's kind of the same thing with Abreu. I watch the way opponents interact with him between plays. They're always friendly and cordial, chatting him and such, pitchers hit him and immediately apologize.1 point

I think Luis is learning how to excel at cruise speed and stay in the game to reach his goals. Longevity is a crucial challenge. He can do it. Him and TA could define the Sox future.1 point

I don't think its a stretch to say Abreu has turned himself into a top third MLB defender at 1B. Pretty incredible what he's done over there. Abreu is a fucking man. Love the dude. I know this is a Luis thread, but Abreu gets no where near as much respect as he deserves nationally, league-wide, and even among Sox fans. He's a Sox legend. So happy they resigned him, and he's already earned every dollar of that $50M.1 point

It's already been said, but he has 8 WAR upside. Honestly, he doesn't even need to hit his ceiling to be an 8 WAR player. If he can stay healthy, he's an MVP caliber player year and year out. If he can stay healthy, and hit his ceiling, he could be one of the best ever. The talent is that legit.1 point

Yeah...well, they missed something IMO.1 point

What I remember of the 2005 team was the crazy bullpen...a bunch of fringe prospects and journeymen became unhittable for a year. Politte, Cotts and Hermanson pitched every game with sub 2.00 ERA. Sort of the opposite of this team with undeniable talent with unspeakable results.1 point
