  1. It is going to be damn emotional for me if I can get to a playoff game and finally cheer for our MVP in a playoff game. The man has not taken the easy way in his baseball career, chose this team - and how often has that happened - and stuck with this team and done nothing but deliver. And there was a huge chance he'd never get to the big stage despite it. Last year happened, but getting a real stadium full of us for him. I can't wait.

  13. Here we are, it's September. Magic number = 22 Sox and Cleveland both won last night, so the lead remains at 10. The AL East is all but over as well. Tampa extended their lead over the Yankees to 8 last night, with Boston 10 back. Houston's lead over Oakland is 5, not a lock but still comfortable. Sox now 1.5 back of Houston for the 2nd seed and home field advantage for the ALDS. As the division races continue to be dull, the wild card chase has gotten white hot. Yankees now lead Boston by only 2 for the first spot, with Boston only 1 clear of Oakland for the second spot. Seattle at 3.5 back and Toronto at 4.5 back continue to hang at the very edge of the playoff picture. Over in the National League, the long predicted overtaking of the Giants by the Dodgers is imminent, with the Dodgers now only a half game behind. Both teams are well clear of the rest of the wild card contenders, so neither is in danger of missing out on playoff baseball. Milwaukee joins the Sox with double digit division leads at 10 over Cincinnati. Philly has won 5 straight and is now within 2.5 of Atlanta in the East. Cincinnati and San Diego now tied for the 2nd WC spot, with Philly and St. Louis both 2.5 back.

  14. A MLB milestone that does not get discussed enough. The first all-minority starting 9 in a MLB game. I hope they honor it or mention it tonight during the game. https://www.mlb.com/news/featured/the-day-the-pirates-fielded-the-first-all-black-and-latino-lineup

  15. We have finally hit 22 games above .500. Our highest mark since September 2008. We had 3 chances to hit it in July and August and had lost every time before tonight.

  16. He had some really bad ABs with runners on base towards the end of his stint. Was way too anxious and swung at everything. Good to see he didn't have that problem in the 5th today.

  24. Not bad one bit. It really is a wonderful moment every time I see it...and that particular one tonight especially choked me up. Kudos to the Sox for making that wonderful reunion happen. Welcome back sir... enjoy a catch with that young man. That hug gave me chills.

  27. The Astros just got shutout two consecutive days by the Mariners. Even the best offensive teams in baseball are going to be inconsistent at times. something to keep in mind the next time the Sox offense scuffles because it's by no means crippling like people make it out to be.

  28. The point of the write up was that MLB missed some of his most productive years, which could have put him on the road to the HOF, not that he was a HOF today.

  29. We are in LA. Lower Alabama for y’all up north. Friends stuck trying to cross hurricane debris in Louisiana. Bad. Ok here just some flooding and beach damage. Wasn’t sure if I could start threads in timely fashion so thanks to all. Will check in when can but probably next week till can resume. In the meantime having a cold one, two, three……….for everyone and some great fresh seafood.

  39. While we're talking about a guy with less than a season in American professional baseball, Cespedes is showing near-immediate MLB ceiling in most facets of the game. The easy comparison is with his brother. One angle of his game that stands out is his field play/range, glovework and composure on defense. These weren't strengths in Yoenis' game who booted and flubbed more than a reasonable percentage of plays. Yoenis' GG was almost entirely due to his elite arm and the use of it in making spectacular plays. The point being that his arm often saved plays that, if he were to have made in the first place wouldn't have had to be saved by his arm. Whether or not Yoelquis has his brothers power bat remains to be seen but his line-drive contact skills are pretty evident. If he's got his head on a swivel and continues to exhibit poise in the field, there is little reason to doubt that he'll be making at least some appearances in RF at Comiskey/GRF after the AS break in 22.

  40. Rodriguez has posted borderline elite strikeout rates in Low-A and High-A this year. I'd be more inclined to go along with that if his approach had lead to an increased strikeout rate in games, but that hasn't happened at all. I also think he deserves more of the benefit of the doubt considering how good the performance has been (obviously best in the system for anyone age appropriate in the lower minors) and the fact he has a real shot to stick at a premium position. If Montgomery goes to Kanny & WS next year and produces the way Rodriguez has this year, most people on this board would be clamoring for him to be a top 100 guy and rightfully so.
