  1. You do nothing. You use your 1,000 years of managing experience with cases similar to this and try to snap him out of it. He's a rookie and been a key part to this team. He hasn't been ideal with RISP, but this is not the time to make any changes. If he still can't get a hit with RISP and its now October? Then bring in a pinch hitter if it's necessary.

  2. This is hilarious. Did you wanna send Robert AZ last September? This fanbase is insufferable.

  3. They clearly should overrreact to a guy who has made an incredible leap this year, and never played nearly as much as he has played this year in his life by sending him to rookie ball because he hasn't hit with RISP and two outs. Because we all know that the way to hit major league sliders is more batting practice, in rookie ball. Instant gratification much?

  4. Sale on Sunday? They gotta wear the ‘83 unis, right?

  5. Goodwin has an .875 OPS vs RHP and isn't a defensive liability at DH.

  6. 100%. He's gotta learn to hit when he's tired, frustrated and in between like every other MLB hitter. It's a process. He'll be fine. He'll be good.

  7. There's not much of a difference, at least for me. 3 divisions and 4 wild cards. If they whittled the four wild cards in single elimination games down to 1 team, it wouldn't be too far of a departure, and I'd have the same level of interest as now (only if the Sox are in). However, they will likely have the top record with a bye, and the other two division winners are thrown in the slop with the four wild card teams in a best of three or five, I like that the best team is rewarded in that scenario, but division winners shouldn't get mere home field (either 1 game or all) against a 75 win wild card. There is still no legitimate competitive reason to expand the playoffs beyond the current set up, whether they go four divisions (there should be no wild cards) or keep the three. My preference would be keep the current six five team divisions. Top record in each league gets a bye, the second best division winner hosts the third in a best of three, the winner playing a best of seven. Division champions competing for a championship.

  9. Fans should remember three months of these lineups when their Sox rep calls to ask for a renewal of season tickets at jacked up prices. With a 16 team playoff, the NBA regular season will hold far more integrity.

  10. I’ve seen nothing in the second half of the season to suggest this is a title contender.

  11. After landing Tepera, another bat was clearly their biggest need. Deciding to push their chips in for Kimbrel over Bryant was an egregious mistake in the moment.

  12. It's insane to be managing these games like there isn't a difference to the White Sox world series odds whether they're the 2 or 3 seed.

  13. I've been supportive of the Sox frequently resting players this season, etc. But that was a moment where Eloy should have been pinch hitting. I'm not saying he should have started the game or even play tomorrow, but if they aren't putting him on the IL then he should be batting for Mendick in that situation.

  20. Yeah I always associate Republicans with pro-drugs, pro-prostitution, pro-gambling, pro-drinking, pro-abortion, pro-same sex marriage, pro-respecting trans rights... Cant wait to go to Texas and assert all my "individual freedoms." Im sure they will absolutely be okay with me smoking some weed while I bet on the Cowboys as my girlfriend has as an abortion at 8 weeks. Was that supposed to be in green?

  21. Not going to bother with the rest of this, but you went on this rant here and didn't realize how obvious of a contradiction you just wrote - you are complaining about the vaccine not being foolproof, and yet these rapid tests are also "not foolproof". Everyone at Donald Trump's celebration of his last supreme court justice passed a rapid test, and he turned that into a Presidential super-spreader event, because they're not foolproof. Just like the vaccine, they are a strong assistance in keeping a crowd safe, not a guarantee. So please, don't rant about how everyone else is ignoring real science and it's their fault that there is an "us v them" model when you're literally doing the exact same thing.

  22. On paper this makes sense. Just like on paper the bullpen is untouchable. It’s not that simple. Baseball is weird. But keep stating your hopes as facts.

  23. In the long term, Vaughn will be fine. In the short term, he probably needs to sit vs most RHP in the playoffs. Play Engel in RF with Sheets or Goodwin at DH.

  24. We are playing the wrong sport with all these 50 yards plus punts that we are getting up there. TLR never seems to have an urgency to win games utilizing all the weapons available to him. We need to have that killer instinct established in the team going forward. Some time we need to prioritize wins over resting too many players. Win culture is needed.

  25. Health is still the most important thing, but it’s getting late enough where I’d like to see them start stringing together a few good games in a row. Let’s see a little consistency for a change and some looks at the team most of us think they can be in the playoffs.

  26. Actually wouldn't mind seeing more rest for this one, either for Abreu (Sheets at 1B) or Robert (Sheets in RF, Hamilton to CF, Vaughn to LF), push back Reynaldo to Friday and make it a bullpen day. Kopech 1-2 Wright 3 Ruiz 4 Tepera 5 Bummer 6 Kimbrel 7 Crochet 8 Hendriks 9 (if there is a bottom of the 9th) Rather punt 1 full game per series than 2-3 games per series with half starters / half bench players.

  27. Are you serious with this? You would like to see Andrew start in Birmingham next year? This is lunacy.
    1 point
  28. It's clear that because of injuries, Vaughn was rushed into MLB. I believe that next year Vaughn should start the season at Birmingham or Charlotte. If he hits well down there, bring him back up and see if he's ready for MLB then. I think Vaughn still has a chance to be a slightly above average ML hitter some day, but he should be playing first base.

  29. False. They went 9-10 against the Royals. Stop being so over optimistic.

  30. Challenge accepted. Since when is Kansas City a playoff team? If the record against KC is important, why didn't you list all of the rest of the crappy teams the Sox did beat up on? The White Sox have eighty wins this year, and Luis Robert has 8 homers. That is at least 72 wins that didn't have a Robert HR. Eloy isn't dead. Neither is TA, Lucas Giolito, Lance Lynn or any of the rest of it. Are you trying to say that all of these players will suck in the playoffs? This would be an interesting statement.

  31. Couldn’t agree more. But again, not expecting things to play out perfectly does not mean being miserable.
    1 point
  32. Ah yes, so much misery in my post. Back to the old ‘if you’re not 100% optimistic, you hate life’ thing. Great stuff. Yes. Absolutely. No one is arguing that, or at least they shouldn’t be. As long as everyone is healthy, I think this is the best team in the AL on paper. But that is very different than saying “once the lineup is healthy, everything will fall into place.” A lot of things have to go right for that to happen. Can it? Of course. Will it? Sure hope so, but I’m not expecting everything to align perfectly. That’s silly. Okay, back to my miserable existence.

  33. If the Sox won last night, this thread wouldn't have existed. Everyone can blame DK because he wasn't very good, and hasn't been good, but the fact is, their line up is missing several pieces. Kuechel would have had to have thrown a shutout to win last night. Once the bats get healthy, everything will fall into place. You won't have to worry about Kuechel, he won't be in the playoff rotation.

  34. Taylor Trammell has out produced Kelenic on his own team. .160/.256/.615 with 8 homers in 178 PA vs. .160/.239/.523 with 8 homers in 253 PA This is now the Taylor Trammell thread.

  35. The Yankees play the Rays the last series of the season. Rays will almost certainly have the #1 seed locked up. Do they play their A lineup and pitchers to try to knock the Yankees out or do they rest up for the playoffs? On the NL side, the Padres are clearly the better team but the Reds have the more favorable schedule.

  36. After the 60 game season last year this is the obvious road to choose. Will it work out, we shall see but to think this is not an ideal plan is foolish. I could be getting hoodwinked here but the IL stints seem to be neatly organized with the numerous off days and Cleveland continuing to scuffle and gaining zero ground.

  37. Right...do other prospects around the league also need a thread here? .160 average, .245 OBP, .291 slugging is a pretty low bar for a thread here.

  39. It's not affecting him in the field. But he needs to sit some more. He's lost at bat.

  40. Yeah, but at the same time, if he’s at the limit of what he can physically contribute this year, the team has priorities other than just developing him.

  42. You gotta give Vaughn some time off don't you....I can't see how this is helping his psyche at all. Just put Billy out there for a couple games at least.

  44. That's almost like the Era of the Statniks/Sabes. Although not sure you can trademark an era or epoch that has yet to occur, officially. (Perhaps we had a previous era with our Saturn rockets....) The problem, of course, is that everyone reacts differently. Some will only respond to government force or heavy-handedness, believing that everything's basically just a friendly recommendation that can simply be ignored without any significant personal consequence. Otoh, we have people getting locked up for months if not years in Asian countries for breaking quarantine protocols or knowingly exposing others to Covid. This whole argument is at the heart of the vaccine passport/s debate that puts 90%+ Republicans firmly in the against column.

  45. No. We need to play our A team all the time. No Keuchel, Goodwin, Vaughn. Not resting any stars in the playoffs. Go with the horses in the bullpen,no Ruiz, Burr, etc. Be able to play small ball when called for. Our runners in motion, try to avoid hitting into so many double plays..

  47. greg, thank you for getting vaccinated, not just for yourself, but you mentioned how you missed going to church. that's one of the most vulnerable populations due to age, as well as the general politics of those less likely to be vaccinated. you'll never know for sure, but you've likely helped keep others a little safer as well.

  48. He hasn't been bombed all season though, that's my point. He's having a brutal stretch, no doubt and he shouldn't be on the playoff roster. But he's given up 3 or fewer runs in over half his starts. Teams would gladly take that from their 5th starter.
