So for days all we read on this board is how bad Vaughn is. How he shouldn't be in the line up. One that stated he needed to work on his game in Glendale. He is hurt and doesn't play, and now the guy is a wuss or the White Sox don't want to win. The pharmaceutical companies must be making a fortune off Soxtalk members.4 points

Who are the relievers that you recall being good around July 31st? You cannot have enough quality bullpen arms. The Sox have built a pen that is deep and realistically could have guys pitch every other day without a worry. This structure has allowed them to have pitchers only go 4 to 6 innings a game and still save their pen. It was as big a need as any then. Please do not tell me Codi Heuer was they guy to rely on with Evan Marshall. Was RF a bigger need, probably but if you were getting Gallo this board would be more a of a dumpster fire over him they it is over Kimbrel.3 points

Fuck Nick Swisher and right now fuck Kimbrel and Hahn for bringing that garbage over here when it was far from even a huge need.3 points

It's fairly straightforward. https://www.kff.org/coronavirus-covid-19/poll-finding/kff-covid-19-vaccine-monitor-profile-of-the-unvaccinated/ These figures are from June 2021 so a little dated, but only by a few months. This was a poll done by NBC in late August as well: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/nbc-news-poll-shows-demographic-breakdown-vaccinated-u-s-n1277514 It seems like the "bigoted" idea of saying "Trump supporters are dumb and won't get the vax" checks out....3 points

Probably a bit early to look ahead, but at the same time there's very little likelihood that we catch the Rays or that Oakland/Seattle catch Houston. Only thing really TBD is 3 games in Houston or Southside. So wanted to discuss the rotation and how people would like that to lineup for a potential matchup. Lynn - home era 2.60, road era 2.31, day era 1.25, night era 3.18. One GS against HOU, 4ip, 6runs, 13.50ERA. Career 5ERA at minute maid, poor against houston last year with a 12era, 16 runs in 11IP last year. really, he's done poor at 4 ballparks in his career ... wrigley, minute maid, yankee ... and suprisingly PNC. Giolito - Home era 3.79, road era 3.60, day era 4.98, night era 2.92. One game against HOU this year, complete game 3 hitter, 1r. Cease Home era 3.22, road era 5.37, day era 3.05, night era 4.97. 2 GS against HOU, 9ERA, 10R Rodon home era 2.45, road era 2.32, day era 3.40, night era 1.81. 2 GS against HOU, 0.64ERA As much as i love lance lynn and would say he's the ace of this team, his numbers against the Astros over the past 2 years is poor. Every out in the postseason is big, so something to think about when picking game 1/game 5 starter. Meanwhile Rodon has cleaned up against Houston ... has even road/home splits as well. Cease clearly has an advantage pitching during the day and at home. some guys respond okay to different routines, some need that day to prepare. Giolito seems to be one of those guys. and that doesn't surprise me. he seems to be methodical and maybe it's as simple as afternoon games he can't get comfortable in his routines? Of course all of these stats can be skewed by a start or two and not sure how different they look going back to other seasons ... but it's worth discussing. Assuming Houston has a better record, I'd go: Rodon Lynn Travel Day Cease? Giolito Travel Day Rodon or Lynn? This lines up Cease at home, also lines him up in Game 3. I chose this assuming that if things go wrong we'd need a decent amount of innings from the bullpen & that a Kopech/Crochet could be fresh enough 3 days later to come in for high leverage 2IP relief. You could very easily sway me in any rotation breakdown. I'd also consider Giolito out of the gate, switching with Rodon. Cease at 4 makes sense too, because correct me if I'm wrong, but that would lineup for a bullpen day for whoever starts game 3, meaning they could give you an inning? Also wonder how TLR historically has handled arms in the playoffs. I feel like this phenomenon of being on a super short leash is over the past 6-8 years. Like, didn't it really, really start with Bumgarner? Which now that i think of it is like 10 years ago... But either way TLR wasn't really around then. So wonder if he's a quick leash, or maybe more of the Ozzie 5 CG in a row mentality.2 points

For a team with Hall of Famer person as a manager, we have been awful in extras. Too many dumb mistakes defensively, and then not a lot of strategy offensively. That has also seemingly shown up in our 15-21 record in one run games as well.2 points

He definitely misread it. He came over and didn't recognize its carry until it was too late. If he gets a good read, he makes an easy play. Was a line drive that was hit harder than he realized.2 points

Many teams would pick up Leury in a second. Utility players that can play several positions adequately, and are switch hitters as well, are always in demand. Let’s keep this guy.2 points

When Biden said that, it was specifically in response to Trump saying he wanted vaccines rushed, before the FDA was ready to approve Emergency Use Authorization. So if you think wanting to follow the science instead of a politician is political, then I don't know how to respond to that.2 points

Based pretty much on these two alone, I'd roll up with Rodon-Giolito-Lynn-Cease if we're on the road. In a picture perfect world, that sets you up for Lynn to close it out at home. Plus, I think of all the pitchers, Rodon might get the biggest "good" adrenaline boost from pitching Game 1.2 points

Lynn, Crochet and Ruiz were great. Leury was clutch . Jose and Eloy need to wake up. Kimbrel should be demoted . Tepera time in the 8th. Bummer, Crochet, Kopech Ruiz should all pitch ahead of Kimbrel .2 points

Seriously. That was a fun series against a team fighting to keep their season alive and we very nearly swept them. They were shorthanded, but fortunately for other teams we have to say that about them but never need to qualify our own success or losses on that. I imagine a lot of the board was at the game yesterday, it was hot as hell but a good time. Very likely my last regular season game, hopefully I can get a few more games in october.2 points

Yes, but at least Kimbrel may have trade value. Sox paid for Hernandez's extra year and now they'd be idiots to pick it up. Both deals are horrid. Par for the course for this front office.2 points

So people complain he shouldn’t bat where he bats in the line up, say he cannot hit with RISP, then b**** when he isn’t sent up to hit with RISP. Makes a lot of sense. Give him a break. I do not like Tony LaRussa the human being or manager, but he made the right move keeping him in the dugout.2 points

This is the first time in the 120 year history of the franchise that they will have made the playoffs in back to back seasons. It's the best teams we have had since the 05 to 08 stretch. If you can't enjoy this, you are doing it wrong.2 points

I’d like a shorter season and another round of playoffs. Yep, lots more teams would be in post season play. Yes, it slightly diminishes the regular season.1 point

Yeah...Tony has me nervous with that regular talk. I hope we don't need to see much of Leury in the postseason. He is a very good utility player but I want the regulars playing every day in playoff baseball.1 point

That is not true. If we returned to the best AL vs best NL format, if a team runs away w their league all the games late in the year would be meaningless. Now if we played even gamesw each team in a division and took the top 3 with 2 vs 3 and winner plays 1 it would still create interest but still reward the best team in each division.1 point

This is one of the more ridiculous “winner” threads I’ve ever seen. Glad we won another series against a likely playoff team. Most importantly, glad to see our starters come off the IL with solid performances. I was really worried about Rodon in particular.1 point

Couldn't agree more, you can't make this stuff up. Seriously, how can someone complain about him for weeks (especially his hitting with RISP) and then want him to bat with RISP in extra innings? Not sure how anyone can't understand that he is a young player that obviously hit a wall in his first MLB season.1 point

I would have liked Kimbrel to have a clean inning and secure the save, but hey what do I know.1 point

I wonder if the vaccine hesitant that you know would have been less hesitant if Biden wasn’t president and if they would have gotten the vaccine if the other guy won re-election. These are part of the legitimate questions that people need to answer. But I also would love to know who people who won’t get the vaccine trust if it isn’t the scientists or even their own doctor. Some clearly trust somebody if they used a reason for not getting the vaccine since someone shared the research, fact or article with them, even if it was online.1 point

People on here get actually upset when Leury has success. I don't get some of our fanbase.1 point
-
It will never go back...but it would still be my preference. Playoffs are for the owners to make money not to find the best team. Every game was more important in the good old days. The teams played all other league teams and the winner went to the WS. Wild card teams winning the WS just doesn't sit well with me.1 point
-
Yes I think you can fault the trade because you can’t just take a relief pitcher from a non-contending team and expect he’s gonna perform the same on a team in a pennant race and in another league. And frankly I continue to be annoyed when players go from the White Sox to other organizations and excel. it just shows how poor our player development is.1 point

His mechanics are all fucked up. It's why he can't spot his fastball and why his curve usually isn't a strike. Boston basically decided they were just gonna take pitches against him cause they knew he couldn't get the curve in the zone. The Cubs knew how to fix him when he got like this. We have no real answers and it's aggravating. Not only is he blowing games, but we also paid out the ass for him.1 point

Your post does not anger me at all. For one, I do not really trust Fauci....it seems to me he straight out lied about the funding of the gain of research work at the Wuhan lab. I am vaccinated and really do encourage people to get so as well. However it is a dangerous path to go down when the government moves towards mandating everyone be vaccinated. Especially when they police it by making private industries force their employees to do so. It is a slippery slope that I am not really comfortable with. My wife disagrees with me because this is a "pandemic".1 point

I'm not bored....extremely frustrated at times but not bored. I'm not really sure I ever expected this to be the year they go deep in the playoffs but I know it could happen. I can see them beating anyone...unfortunately I can also see them losing to anyone. Let's see which team shows up come October.1 point

I've been watching baseball for 50 odd years, and i can honestly say that i've never been bored with it . i love the game with a passion, and relish the time from the beginning of spring training until the final out of the World Series . i love the defensive part of the game most, and the addition of Robert really piqued my interest... I've patiently waited my whole adult life for the White Sox to acquire a five tool center fielder that is one of the best in the game . it's always been a passion of mine, great center fielders . i have autographs from some of the games greatest in that position, stemming back to the mid 60's when i met players through my uncle, who was in advertising, and my cousin, a former Chicago sportscaster, who took me to my first Cub game back in 1965 ( my diehard White Sox fan dad, who was recently deceased, would have been appalled.1 point
