Not many things make me happier than watching the Padres situation deteriorate.7 points

I would not do Crochet straight up for him with that contract even after the way they used him this year.7 points

I can see clearly now Mike Wright is gone. I can see all the obstacles in my way.5 points

Lynn averaged 93 on his fastball last start and he's well above that tonight. I think this is the best and most comfortable he's looked on the mound in quite awhile.4 points

If you didn't want him enough to outbid the Padres when he cost only money...why want him now when he cost money and players?4 points

The other really fun thing is I can't imagine a worse offseason to try and need to offload Manny, from the abundance of elite MI talent to the CBA. Truly a hilarious situation, I am cackling.4 points

No Eloy, Robert, or Grandal in that game. Goodwin was batting clean up, so that tells you everything you need to know. McCullers should be the one who is scared.4 points

10/1: Houston wrapped up the AL West last night, and one more win by Houston or loss by the Sox will lock Houston in as the #2 seed, with Tampa Bay already having clinched the #1 seed. New York has taken a 2 game lead over Boston and Seattle for in the wild card race. A New York win and a loss by either Boston or Seattle wraps up a wild card spot tonight. Toronto sits 1 game behind Boston/Seattle and needs to win and get help. In the National League, Atlanta won the NL East last night and will be the #3 seed. Milwaukee is locked into the #2 seed. San Francisco and Los Angeles both win to keep the Giants 2 clear of the Dodgers in the NL West. a Giants win and Dodgers loss tonight clinches the NL West and #1 seed for San Francisco. Playoff race weekend series starting today: Boston at Washington, Tampa Bay at NY Yankees, Baltimore at Toronto, Oakland at Houston, San Diego at San Francisco, Milwaukee at LA Dodgers.4 points

What the Rockies got for Arenado is basically the best the Padres can hope for in return for Machado. They also had to eat $50 million to get that return, so you're probably right.3 points
-
The Arenado deal was one tolerable big leaguer and 4 minor league pieces, only 1 of whom was in the Cardinals top 10 at the time. A comparable deal for the White Sox would be something like Lopez + one of the international signing guys who had moderate success (Ramos or Rodriguez) and a couple of filler pieces.3 points

If you wouldn't do Crochet for Manny straight up as a Sox fan you're on crazy pills. I like Crochet quite a bit, but he's 50/50 at best to ever pitch more than 100 innings in a season. Kopech is a totally different animal he has potential to be a top 10 starter in baseball starting next year.3 points

A Moon Shaped Pool is a beautiful album, and they are still one of the best active live acts.3 points

Andrew Vaughn is unplayable right now full time. His playoff role should be DH against lefties and pinch hitter against lefties. Engel gets RF because is bat is decent now and he has elite defense with good speed. Sheets should get the DH spot versus righties.3 points

If you watch out of town baseball, it becomes evident pretty quickly how insanely deep the White Sox pitching staff & bullpen especially is. The A's are going to Trivino for a 4 out save and he'd be like the 7th best reliever in the Sox pen.2 points

I think Gio goes game 1. Lynn probably went today to give him some extra rest. Lucas is also very regimented so he may want exactly 4 days off between starts.2 points

Wish we did not giveaway several games in the 10 th inning with Hendriks running, bad bullpen management, failure to move runners over to third, lack of clutch hitting, etc, we will end so close to HFA....2 points

That's how you get revenge, Tim! Also, credible criticism is fine, calling Moncada "The Weakest Link" on the White Sox is absurd. As you were.2 points

^^^ pretty dumb. Baseball players just look stupid when they try to “fight” anyway.2 points

Fuck the Arlington Heights / Wrigley Field / Decatur Bears. Create a Chicago franchise the city can be proud of, which can succeed on the field.2 points

I knew they'd never finish paying Machado just as I knew they'd never finish paying Hosmer, and probably not Myers either. This is par for the course for the Padres. Genius level all around for Preller. Wonder how much money he'd have to eat to get Patino back in return and that's just one guy they dumped off. I've personally done a lot of internal wondering about whether the Pads in the offseason would be interested in something involving Giolito for Clevinger, Abrams and a SP prospect, if Lucas won't talk seriously about an extension with us. I'd pick the carcass if possible. They'll always be cheapasses who never pay anybody through to the end of a long-term deal. They'll never have the balls to truly compete in that division. BTW even though I hate the Dodgers passionately, does anyone think LAD would burn their farm to the ground the way SD has? I would be shocked if LAD made half of the moves SD has, were they in the same position to do so. Eventually Preller will get fired and he'll have to take a special assistant's job and share 1/3 of a #4 seat with a couple other has-beens because no one trusts him enough to give him the keys to the franchise. This may be the first thread I've responded to anything you've said since around July or earlier. I know you like your hot takes to go free of any commentary, but sometimes they're just too hot to ignore.2 points

I was there for Mike Wright's last White Sox appearance....best of luck to him....let's get him a ring for his troubles.2 points

That trade also included Edwin Diaz, who was probably the best reliever in the AL in 2018. And Seattle gave the Mets $20 million.2 points

I wholeheartedly disagree. I was at that game, I remember that game, it sucked. Interestingly, my most vivid memory of that game is saying to my Dad, "why is that Chad Bradford guy in the game?" Years later, my wife could not understand why I was yelling at the TV while she was trying to watch "Moneyball"....."what the hell do you mean noone else ever gave you a shot?!? I was at a playoff game where the Sox let your funky delivery rookie ass pitch!!!!"2 points

I'm just glad the cubs and Padres a re not in the playoffs. Now to hope the Red Sox and Blue jays are knocked out then Yankees Tuesday. Then maybe the media will focus on the White Sox.2 points

At least the White Sox will stay on YTTV through the end of this season...so that is good! Hope they work things out longer term however! https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/youtube-tv-and-nbc-have-agreed-to-an-extension-channels-will-stay-on-youtube-tv-for-now/2 points

Vaughn reminds me of Dayan Viciedo in a couple of ways - he hits a lot of hard line drives, has decent power potential, and is somewhat of a tank already at 23 years old. As things stand, Vaughn is too slow to be an everyday outfielder. If he can work on his lower torso and legs in the off-season, he might get faster, but I'm not sure that is possible. Sox will give him another year or two to develop but Vaughn will have more competition moving forward with Colas and Cespedes along with Sheets competing for roster spots and playing time.2 points

The Detroit Tigers are the only division rival the White Sox have a all time losing record against (1087-1111), time to chip away at those 24 games this weekend!2 points

Did the players apologize to the General Manager for their temper tantrum accusing him of tanking the season at the trade deadline? https://sports.yahoo.com/mariners-players-gm-jerry-dipoto-kendall-graveman-trade-astros-mlb-033541868.html Dipoto acquired the following as a result of the trade temper tantrum and subsequent moves: Joe Smith with a 2.00 ERA 3 Wins, better than Graveman Astros ERA (3.00) Abraham Toro with a 0.8 fWAR in his two months in Seattle, including two home runs against the Astros immediately after the trade. Plus Diego Castillo 2.95 ERA 3 Wins & Tyler Anderson 0.5 fWAR, 2-2 4.50 ERA starter in separate transactions1 point

I agree, Giolito will start Game 1. My thinking is Giolito for Game 1. "Ropech" meaning the Rodon and Kopech combination for Game 2. Lynn for Game 3 and Cease for Game 4. Then back with Giolito obviously for a Game 5.1 point

Post All Star break his hitting stats are worse than Hernandez so that's a bigger sample size.I'd say if Vaughn see any AB's it will be against LHP at DH only if Engel can start every game in RF. I understand Vaughn gets a lot of rope around here because of what he may become but currently his role is very limited. Remember all the people here who said Vaughn had to play all of the time in LF with Eloy DHing ? Remember all the people who said Vaughn had to play every day no matter what ? Let's face it, he has received the benefit of the doubt all season because of the lack of quality options in the OF and criticism of him has met with scorn but right now he has issues and if he gets any playing time before the season ends he has to show something. He needs to start being treated like any other player with limited OF defensive skills and in a huge slump. He's had one great month and that was July. I'm not sure how to get 2nd half stats against LHP only . Maybe that would paint a more favorable picture of Vaughn's hitting.1 point
