Are you talking every day of the 162-game season has all of the day's games played at the same time? Terrible idea. That would kill the game. It would be so hard to watch baseball games of teams in other markets, meaning it would be harder for fans to be a fan of the game, learning about those other teams and players. Part of the fun of being a baseball fan is know that when your team isn't playing, someone else is. The excitement of today's slate, flipping back and forth and having live cut-ins of the other scores, would be lost if they did this every day. Broadcasts wouldn't care about the other scoring updates on a random game 77 of the season played on a Tuesday.6 points

10/3: We've made it to the final day of the season, and six teams still have something to play for. Teams who are locked into spots and do not, are Tampa Bay, Houston, and the Sox as division winners in the AL and 1, 2, and 3 seeds respectively. Milwaukee and Atlanta as division winners in the NL and 2 and 3 seeds respectively. Saint Louis as the second wild card. San Francisco and the LA Dodgers have been locked into the postseason for a long time, but their positions are yet to be settled. A Dodgers win + a Giants loss gives us a Monday tiebreaker with the winner being NL west champs and #1 seed, and the loser being the first wild card. Any other pair of outcomes today gives the Giants the NL West title. Now to the AL wild card which has lived up to the "wild" to the fullest extent. As we enter play today, Boston and the NY Yankees are tied for the two WC positions with Toronto and Seattle one game back. Any combination of those four teams could ultimately fill the two wild card slots. In any scenario, Boston and the Yankees are both guaranteed to play at least one more game today, whether that be in the wild card game or a tiebreaker game. All games start between 2:00 and 2:30 today so that no team gets the advantage of knowing an outcome before playing. All the possible outcomes [TLDR version: 9 of the 16 possible outcomes have tiebreaker game(s)]: Boston and Yankees both win, regardless of Toronto or Seattle outcomes - Boston is the first WC and the Yankees are the second WC All four teams lose - Boston is the first WC and Yankees are the second WC Boston wins, other three lose - Boston is first WC and Yankees are second WC Yankees win, other three lose - Yankees are first WC and Boston is second WC Boston and Toronto win, other two lose - Boston is first WC and Toronto and Yankees are tied for second WC Boston and Seattle win, other two lose - Boston is first WC and Seattle and Yankees are tied for second WC Yankees and Toronto win, other two lose - Yankees are first WC and Toronto and Boston are tied for second WC Yankees and Seattle win, other two lose - Yankees are first WC and Seattle and Boston are tied for second WC All but Boston win - Yankees are the first WC and the other three are tied for the second WC All but Yankees win - Boston is the first WC and the other three are tied for the second WC Seattle wins, other three lose - Boston, Yankees and Seattle tie for both WC spots Toronto wins, other three lose - Boston, Yankees and Toronto tie for both WC spots Seattle and Toronto win, Boston and Yankees lose - All four are tied for both WC spots3 points

Sorry, but I was disappointed that Eloy and Robert suffered major injuries and missed significant time. I was very disappointed in Adam Engel's injuries and setbacks. I was disappointed in the sloppy play and "stupid" baseball we saw in too many games this season. I was disappointed by the drop in power production by a couple of our stars. I was disappointed that we traded for arguably the best reliever in baseball and then he pitched like crap most of the time. I was disappointed that we traded for a 2B with 18 HRs to fill the power gap and he only hit 3 since coming over. I'm disappointed that for a team that has been much better at home vs. on the road they punted so many games when they could have secured home field advantage. I was disappointed with some of the unnecessary drama surrounding the team this year as well. Yeah, I'm glad they won the division but still disappointed by the way they played for much of the season. If you weren't disappointed in those things that's your point of view. I don't give a damn about what you think about my credibility. If you can't disagree with someone's personal opinion without resorting to personal attacks, then you're the one that lacks credibility.2 points

How many times have World Series been won by a team that was hot? It happens in the world of professional sports.2 points

I’ll take two meteorites and give the Giants and Rays byes to the ALCS.2 points

Jason's big calls compared to Hawk, Caray, Johnny Red Kerr, etc,. are as vanilla and as replacement-level as they get. Sure he's a good PBP guy when he focuses on the game, and he's a caulfield-like savant/infobot, but the big calls are all garbage.2 points

I love it. I’ve been switching back and forth trying to keep up with everything. Baseball should do something to win over some fans from the NFL and NBA. There’s nothing like being in a bar and most of the tvs are showing football in week 4 while baseball playoffs are going on.2 points

Time for Len and DJ to call 11 White Sox winners. No reason you can't win it all in the first year of your window of opportunity.2 points

I think this is the only "meaningless" white sox regular season game they will have played this season.2 points

I like San Francisco at this point, though it really is a crap shoot. Westgate in Vegas will charge less vig than the crappy MGM odds, but it was the only link I found. Giants are really low with the Rivers Sports book (+550), the Sox are the same +750 as in Vegas. Brewers are also +750 on the North Side. https://il.betrivers.com/?page=sportsbook#event/10069960471 point

I am disappointed by the 2nd half, but wouldn't dub the entire season a disappointment by any means. They could and should have HFA in at least the ALDS, but it is what it is. They are healthy and going into the playoffs on a bit of a hot streak with an AL Central banner to their name; the rest is water under the bridge at this juncture.1 point

That is untrue. The Cubs Game 5 in 1984 was after the Bear game that Payton became the all time leading rusher.1 point

You weren't disappointed with the sloppy play, poor fundamentals and baserunning, the blown leads late by the bullpen, the questionable managerial decisions, the seemingly "punting" of many games not to mention all the injuries and setbacks? I certainly was. You're not disappointed that they failed to get HFA when it certainly seemed within reach? You weren't disappointed with the performance of two of their trade deadline acquisitions? I was. Thankfully the Sox are in such a weak division. But now that this disappointing season is over, let's hope they can get hot/lucky in the postseason. The best team doesn't necessarily win the World Series, but often times the hot team does. Go Sox!1 point

Those are terrible odds on the Dodgers. No wild card team can be that short of odds to win the World Series. Sox are priced pretty close to fair. Best value might be Atlanta.1 point

Actually my off the wall prediction from a few weeks ago is still in play....Sox over Houston in 4....Beat Boston in 5...Take out Milwaukee in 6...Parade!!!1 point

100% agree. I do not want to face the Yankees....well I do because that means we are in the ALCS with home field advantage but....oh you know.1 point

Exactly, that's all you need. MAYBE the last game before the All Star break. When it's unique, it's special. Any more than that and it gets played out and we don't care about the other games being played throughout the day.1 point

I really enjoy the back and forth between Steve and Jason, they're both funny. I really don't mind his home run calls to be honest...1 point

I'm hoping the BoSox knock out the Yanks, they are the one team I'm really fearing from all the AL contenders1 point

Flat ending to a disappointing regular season. Let's hope they get lucky/hot in the post season.1 point

If he could just be an average type offensive player and also play a decent 2B with this skills, he could really be a huge factor for the Sox. His range and arm strength over Madrigal is man vs. boy. If only he could just be decent and have some quality ABs and not make so many mistakes in the field...1 point

I think this is the most fun I've had watching a non-Sox game all year. I don't even like the Mariners, but the thought of them and Toronto making it over NY and Boston has me rooting for them.1 point

It's going to be a very cool museum and would have been nothing but good for Chicago and everyone in the Chicagoland area. https://lucasmuseum.org/1 point

They really should have built the team from the inside out, o line first. Nagy might have an offense if any of his QBs had time to run it. Instead they got obsessed with the offensive toys and there is no time to use them.1 point
-
They've had a lot of injuries and they are a very top heavy team position player wise with as you noted disappointing and mediocre SP. For all the complaints about the Sox's 2nd half at least the SP looks to be, minus Rodon's health, rounding into form for the playoffs.1 point

Yep, they lost most of their rotation, and that doesn’t include Mike Clevinger who was lost last September. Padre starters: Lamet (Limited to 9 starts) Snell (IL early September) Paddack (3 starts since July) They turned to 2018 First Round pick Ryan Weathers, who has not pitched well (5.12 ERA), picked up Jake Arrieta (10.95 ERA) out if desperation to pitch key games down the stretch, and their Ace Yu Darvish (.797 OPS, 6.28 ERA) has pitched almost as bad as Dallas Keuchel (.922 OPS, 6.71 ERA) since the ASB. Joe Musgrove has been their only solid consistent starter. Manny was right, it’s not about you (Tatis), it’s more about Yu.1 point
