So, Madrigal, Heuer and Pilkington gone for less than nothing. Rick Hahn, Hall of Fame GM. Manager of the year. Bringer of multiple championsships5 points

I was very exciting when we acquired him, what a massive disappointment.4 points

With the Phillies Bryce Harper has a .958 OPS, 83 home runs in 3 seasons. Led the NL in OPS in 2021, led in walks in 2020. Hasn’t been hurt, has shown better consistency than we saw in Washington. Those front end results look dynamite. You can’t judge the Harper deal on whether the team made the playoffs and then judge the Wheeler deal on how well he has pitched.4 points

Aaron Rodgers just said he presented his research to the NFL. "They thought I was a quack." Gonna have to go with the NFL on this one.3 points

So Thomas is the fall guy for the injury issues? Can we go back and draft his kid now.3 points

I doubt it will actually work this way, but if I were an opposing GM of say the Rays, I’d tell Hahn today “of course we will trade for him”. 2 weeks from now that would become “we still want him but ownership wouldn’t let us add that money without a CBA”, and then in March it would turn into “we just couldn’t anticipate the CBA would be structure like this and that player is no longer a fit for us.”3 points

If the White Sox pick up Kimbrel's option, they already know who the suitors are IMO. I don't think it'll be that hard for Hahn to blame his struggles on the dugout and get him moved for something.3 points

Sox could use a left handed hitting RF. A probable HOFer in his prime would have been nice.3 points

He's going to rebound and have a solid 2022. Because that's how we roll.2 points

Someone will overpay Rodon for maybe 20 starts and some will not bid. His shoulder status is likely chronic.2 points

Right right right let's talk about Dave Duncan ruining your life some more from his position as a consultant. They are planning the destruction of this organization we are all just watching it happen. Please stop clutching your pearls or they will make marks in your palms. Even with this past year’s relative success, why would you bet on him pitching over 170 innings absent ridiculously favorable odds? Last year only Giolito pitched 170 innings. Obviously none in 2020. In 2019, three Sox pitchers went 170 innings, but two were named Noca and Lopez. In 2020, 34 pitchers (both leagues) pitched more than 170 innings. It’s just not common anymore, and Rodon is certainly not uncommon in this particular regard. I like the story and hope he’s back, but don’t overpay for, hopefully, 125 innings.2 points

They apparently couldn’t trade him. Do people really think some team just has to have Kimbrel at $16 million?2 points

This is so tiresome man, nobody makes themself more upset at made up scenarios than you2 points
-
I don't think there is much hindsight there. He was always dynamic, a 26 year old free agent. If there ever was a time to do something crazy, that was it.2 points

I think if Kimbrel was traded to a different team at the deadline, became a set up guy, and performed the exact same as he did for the White Sox, if Liam Hendriks Tarot card reader told him he needed to give up pitching and become a pro surfer, there would be no one here thinking acquing Kimbrel, paying him $16 million and giving up a good player would make any sense.2 points

I do think the Sox job is Jason’s dream job, but if he wants more exposure, now would probably be the time to do it. I would think in a few years he will get sick of the extra traveling and preparation. Now he is just living the dream with the Sox and all his other assignments, but I’m guessing in 5 or 10 years, calling Sox games will be plenty for him.2 points

Most superstar contracts will look bad the last couple of years. That is the tax you pay. If you aren’t willing to pay it, you don’t sign the premium guys. The story with when they signed Carlton Fisk was Roland Hemond figured he had 3 years left, but they had to give him 4 or 5 to get him to sign. They were willing to do that, and that one actually worked way better than hoped. BTW, Keith Law is out with his best free agent list, and says he might give Kimbrel 1 year $10 million to get the magic back. I don’t think he would be that far off on MLB front office thinking. If the Sox pick up the option to trade him, they are going to be dissatisfied with the offers.2 points

I once again find it funny that we just finished the season saying “we are too redundant, too full of right handed corner players that hit too many ground balls “ and then two weeks later people are like “we should sign Avi”.2 points

Doubling down on the original mistake of trading for him in the first place, when we already had a closer and needed a RF instead.1 point

If we swing for the fence, give me Jose Ramirez, though I shudder to think what we would have to give up for him.1 point

The White Sox always try to swing for the fences in some offseason deal right? Lowe.1 point

Yeah, was told it wasnt as likely as was being reported, was beginning to expect it today. Seems real unlikely there is a market for him at that price given what happened with Miley today. Teams are gonna hoard $$$ in anticipation of the new CBA it looks like.1 point

Since no one else looked it up, 2.9 fWAR last season for Miley. That…would have been useful to the White Sox next year at that price.1 point

All I am saying is this is a guy who put up a 6 bWAR, costs $10 million next year, and the Reds couldn’t trade him for a broken bat. I don’t know how anyone could expect Kimbrel is going to be popular at $16 million.1 point

To be fair to Balta, this wouldn't be a bad plan for the Rays if the Sox and Rays were the only team in the league.1 point
-
This organization once publicly blamed a deal not happening on a Tweet. The idea that the same people could have perfect confidence in a trade happening maybe 5 months and a lockout in advance just seems like a fantasy to me.1 point
-
The sox are only picking up Kimbrel's option if they know there are multiple teams interested, or they're OK paying him $16M to be in the bullpen. They aren't relying on the fucking Rays to acquire him and if they don't all their plans are fucked. Teams don't operate this way.1 point
-
Yeah, the quickest way to get people hooked on a Sox player is for him to leave the Sox.1 point

There were only 9 above 0.0, the rest were in negative territory. Slugger Adolis Garcia (TEX) was the leader, by far, on D. Adam Duvall, Avi and Austin Hays (Orioles) are the other guys between 2-3 fWAR (overall) that play strong/solid defense. Haniger's defensive numbers were REALLY bad. Now whether the White Sox would go after Avi again, Adam Duvall seems a lot more likely the default move since a shorter deal.1 point

I'd like to live in a world where all 30 teams are trying to win the World Series each and every season. It's the commissioners job to choose owners that way.1 point
-
It's still the owners fault. Sports franchises aren't supposed to be legitimate businesses but rather a hobby/toy for the ultra-wealthy. They're supposed to be happy taking a loss to win. They're not, and that's the problem in the end.1 point

I did it when I was at FSU. Then I grew up and realized not only how offensive it can be, but also how fuckin' stupid and childish it looks doing it.1 point

Anyone else get the feeling that with the upcoming CBA talks we’re in for a very long free agency season and a drawn out hot stove? My guess is a lot of teams will want to see that resolved before making big moves.1 point
