  1. “Like” this post if you believe Tony’s head is photoshopped. “Fire” this post if you trust dude with the plain black baseball hat. ”Thanks” for Sammy Hagar.

  2. They could just use money and sign Michael Conforto to play RF and keep Vaughn too. I don't understand why the acquisition has to come via trade. Spend more of Jerry's fucking money on real ass players. Andrew Vaughn should be their 1B for the next decade. Trading him would be a huge mistake. I'd trade Eloy before I traded Vaughn.

  3. In the real world, anyone with Rodons profile of injury history would have you screaming from the highest mountain that this was wasted money from the minute the ink dried, full stop.

  4. I don't like the Conforto fit. He turned down the QO. Yes, he could have misread the market, but right now Boras is working with much more information than I am and think he can get a long-term deal. The Sox seem like they will spend but we all agree it probably won't reach the levels we'd all like them to reach. So with that in mind, what are they getting with Conforto? - Mediocre to average defense in RF - Coming off a very disappointing 2021, which was his contract year - Will be 29 when the season starts - How many offensive free agents have come to the Sox and gotten significantly better upon arrival? With Rodon seemingly out of the picture.....spend the money on another starter. Make this rotation scary with something like Scherzer-Gio-Lynn-Kopech-Cease. Go out and trade some assets for a 2B, and run with Vaugh/Sheets in RF.

  5. Agreed on both counts, though it’s unlikely Jerry will hit anything close to the near $200M people here are expecting. Same false expectations as last offseason. Eloy doesn’t want to DH, in part because he has sucked ass to date when he has attempted it (.592 OPS). There is no evidence he can stay healthy at LF, or can be even league average the times he is able to play. He is the one core member I’d listen to trade talks for as his juice is not worth the squeeze. Get a solid #2 SP for him, the Marlins have ample pitching, other teams may also be interested in giving up a solid return. I don’t agree with Hahn’s assessment that RF is a good fit for Vaughn or Sheets, but he pissed away all the cash on players who have shit the bed in October, leaving people hoping they can get decent garbage for Kimbrel and/or Keuchel by the guy who thought they were wise acquisitions in the first place.

  6. They need a left handed banger. If they get him at DH then they can go a bunch of different directions to fill 2B and RF.

  7. General Intro: - Bullpen will be a priority. - No way to look at last season other than a disappointment. - Reinforcing pitching as a whole, better controlling the running game, improving on defense are things they identified as far back as the summer. - Signing a TOR isn’t out of the possibility, it’s the “Holy Grail” - we’d be foolish not to at least check it out. - “We’re still evaluating all of our options with Craig Kimbrel.” About TLR: - Most surprising thing is that “he walked in the door without wresting on his past accomplishments and was starting at zero to earn trust and respect.” - Didn’t mandate his way, sought to earn staff trust in a similar way. Rodon: - I’d caution against saying he’s moving on. I’ve already talked with Boras and Rodon. We know we won’t have him back for 1 at 18. It made a little more sense to shoot for a longer deal with him or someone else. His days as a White Sox might not be over. “We saw what he can do when he’s 100% healthy” Second Base / Right Field: - I think we’re probably closer to having internal answers in Right Field with Vaughn and Sheets. - At second we have Mendick and Romey who are options that are less established and seem more as super utility types. - We’re going to vet the market for both positions via free agents and trades. Kopech: - Will be treated as a every 5 days kind of guy but to stretch him out and rest him in the summer we may have to skip a start and have him throw an inning or two out of the pen instead. Shifting: - We’re going to have to be better defensively instead. Don’t look just at the shift, look at outs converted via the shift or not. We we’re 9th in the league with that statistic. Still we need to look at ways to improve defense and align pitch selection for the effectiveness of defensive alignment. DH: - Wait to see how offseason plays out. If we go to sign a RF then it will be the kids Vaughn and Sheets. If we sign a true DH we’ll be looking at that pair in right. CBA: - I think for the next month we’re continuing on as business is normal and will hope that the league and player association will continue working together positively as they have since the mid 90’s. Braves: - Leading up to the deadline I talked with Alex and to his credit he believed in the underlying talent of that staff and they decided to add to it and got hot at the right time. They exemplified it’s important to get hot at the right time, to get into the playoffs, and for the front office to feed the talent on the field with supplements when it is possible.

  8. If the guy is claiming to be the man in the photograph (Sammy Hagar), does that mean Sammy Hagar is the anonymous source? He referred to himself in this person so he wouldn't out himself. It makes sense when you think about it. Ray ray owes some people in this thread, and Sammy Hagar an apology.

  11. For the love of god we aren’t keeping Kimbrel. The decisions are not related whatsoever.

  12. That's literally in 27 games, 115 PAs, and you're selectively getting games where he wasn't healthy enough to play the field.

  13. If we’re trading Kimbrel for another bad salary, we should not have picked up the option and used the money towards someone good instead.

  14. I am still on this bandwagon. I just hate letting this walk for nothing. If Kopech is playing great, you can trade Rodon for other needs. You can also just have him allow a trade - he banked the contract he wanted and I'm sure he'd be open to any place he can start. But to just let him walk is disappointing. But, it's not that strong of an opinion for me, mainly because of health. What I mentioned above gets complicated if they don't think he can pass a physical. And the sox were not quite on the same page on Rodon at end of the year and it felt like Rodon was just adamant on starting (I wonder if Boras bullied them into it). Rodon showed us his peak is a great pitcher. And he may never get there again, but for next year, he could. Starting salaries for pitchers basically start at 11 mill and go all the way up to cole at 35 mill. It's completely reasonable, but absent context, it is pretty difficult to me to be all-in on what was right here.

  18. It's pretty obvious to me that they're gonna have Kimbrel fill Rodon's spot in the rotation.

  20. So, did TLR get Sammy Hagar free tickets to see Sammy Hagar? That's a baller move.

  21. Saying you would be screaming from the top of a mountain isn't a personal attack, untwist yourself from the pretzel you have put yourself in. For someone who loves to correct everyone every chance he gets, you certainly don't like that shit when it happens to you

  24. Southwest isn't serving alcohol right now. Torre is 81 and his birthday was in July. No mlb manager is going to say a player is gone or that a lock out is happening. Gotta wonder why people like this make up stories online.

  25. Are we really now ripping TLR for flying like a normal person and being a nice guy by talking to fans? ?

  26. OK, just wanted to confirm they weren't from a source. For consistent fWAR for comparing plans, picking a single public free source would help better compare plans, IMO. consistent with also using the same salary info. I did a rough quick estimate earlier, will do another using Fangraphs FA tracker (contract and fWAR) and MLB trade rumor arbitration estimates once the remaining QO player responses are filed later this month, if they update before the Owner Lockout. Was encouraged by the article Miami is looking to trade controllable top pitching, will definitely be somewhere I, and more importantly hopefully the White Sox, will seriously consider.

  29. I mean, Rick has had a bumpy few years, but have you watched any Sox baseball the last few years? MLB has the Sox No. 2 in the Power Rankings at the moment. Does that mean anything? Not really....but to act like things have just been a disaster is straight embarrassing from you.

  37. If the White Sox are able to trade Kimbrel without having to include substantial money or take back a comparably bad deal, then yes, they will deserve praise.

  40. Problem is we're trying to contend yesterday and don't have time to let Gavin Lux take a couple seasons to round into form. If I'm trading Vaughn I want it to be for somebody *more* major-league ready, not less.

  42. Personally I like the freedom of an IRA vs the limited options in a 401k, but that depends a lot on how savvy of an investor you are. If you are someone who can handle options beyond a few pre-picked funds, that is a check mark for an IRA. If you aren't well read in this area, shove it into your 401k and pick the closest thing you can to an SP500 index fund.

  43. Just to add some perspective, I saw yesterday where Red Sox just offered a QO to Edwardo Rodriquez for $18.4
    1 point
  44. It's the context: Rodon option declined while Kimbrel was exercised. Under no objective measure is using $16 million on Kimbrel a wise investment. If there are concerns about his health, then why shoot for a longer deal? And it's the context: not picking up 18.4 for Rodon, while exercising $16 for Kimbrel. The 18.4 is dependent on his health; but the $16 is objectively a large overpay in any circumstance.

  45. Against my better judgement, I'm going to hold a magnifying glass up to a Rick Hahn quote: If you knew you he wasn't going to accept the QO, why wouldn't you still offer it so you can get the compensatory pick?
