  2. This year we didn't do the traditional gift thing. The kids all have birthdays in November and December too. So instead of doing all of those presents, we packed them up for a Disney trip the week before Christmas instead.

  6. It's wild how quick I went from feeling they were going to lose to "oh shit they're gonna win" after Coby's three, then the Zach dunk. Seemingly an immediate momentum shift.

  9. More posters should be giving JR credit for spending the money and player capital to attempt to strengthen our chances for a WS run. Didn't work out but he did push the money into the pot.

  11. That’s how teams get the Wander Francos and Juan Sotos of the world. Granted they signed bigger deals. Not to mention he who shall not be mentioned.

  13. I told my wife a few days ago we should get the photo frame for my parents since we live across the country. Probably won’t wait a year. I found two really cool house decorations for my wife at an antique store. I found a ceramic hippo she wanted. She has been looking for one because supposedly they are good luck - whatever. I also bought a statue of dog made out of various scraps of metal that somehow looks exactly like our boxer who died five years ago. We still talk about him all the time. She cried when she saw it. You didn’t ask, but the best gift I ever got was the table hockey game that has the six handles on each side that move the players. I asked for it and was stunned when I got it from Santa Claus. I was 13. Thirty six years later, my nieces and nephews were playing it this Christmas.

  14. It seems we established that the owners have gained more revenue than the players so it lies on the owners to make things right. Reduced service time, raise the minimum wage, 200M ceiling and 100M floor, expand arbitration, draft lottery to limit tanking. The owners must step forward and in doing so keep team equity off the table. If Rob is a labor lawyer these steps should be clear. Let's get the ball rolling first of the year.

  15. Thank you for the suggestion to watch the Rose interview with Gio, Britton, and Semien. I agree that it was informative and shed light on the player's perspective of the process. It would be great if Rose could do the same with a trio of owners. The players framed their position as wanting to incentivize teams to be competitive which I support totally. They want to "realize their potential earlier" which will be a very hard sell IMO...and they don't want to give back what they have already won such as arbitration and free agency which I agree is a reasonable position to take. They also stated clearly that both sides "want baseball to be successful". Zach made the interesting comment that we understand this is a business and negotiating has tactics. The largest frustration is the players feel their proposals are clear and the owners have been unresponsive. I have not changed my opinions because this interview follows what I have been saying: 1) it is normal for both sides in any union negotiation to ask for things they know they will not get...2) until a lockout or strike no one is motivated to give up any negotiation leverage...3) when people miss paychecks or revenues everyone involved gets much more serious about what they can really live with...4) the average fan is not happy with what is perceived as spoiled rich kid players and filthy rich baseball owners fighting over how to split up all the money the fans give them. Thanks for the respectful suggestion to watch what is an hour-long interview. Likewise, I hope you see this as a thoughtful and respectful response.

  16. At least this kills one angle of the "sign Seager and shift Moncada back to 2B" talking point.

  18. Oh he’s for sure playing the Alex Jones role. They even snuck in him shilling some bullshit supplement, which was really funny. But with that said….are we really complaining and poking holes in him being played in Times Square? It’s a movie with a Lizard scientist, a guy made of sand, wizards, etc…I mean come on. Give it a rest @caulfield12

  19. King Richard…..errr, Fernando, Sr. But seriously, Ball’s dad wasn’t all that far off in his predictions, he was just far too obnoxious and starstruck and greedy…and simply jumped the gun and lost all credibility.

  20. Yes, because we should count on Dad for objective scouting advice.

  21. Since no one answered this? Minor league international signings including the signing day and scheduled start of a new minor league signing period in January are unaffected. They can continue as planned. Major league international signings such as the posting of the OF Suzuki from Japan are on hold until the lockout ends.

  22. "Had a nice chat with Tatis Sr recently in STL. He told me Elijah is a natural, one day he decided to pick up baseball and did, he has better tools than Tatis Jr. While Fernando works harder to get better, Elijah plays better at this age than Jr did." How could he be their highest upside teenager in half a decade if almost nobody believes that he (Tatis, Jr.) was much of anything back in 2015 due to his paltry signing bonus? Or it's simply saying we have hardly signed ANY teenagers during that time...for whatever reason (although it has been long speculated about around here.)

  23. Best news we’ve had since the lockout… even though it’s been expected for some time. Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 50 | Field: 50 | Overall: 55 Hernandez’s biggest comp is a lofty one: Juan Soto. Hernandez, like Soto, is a solid hitter as a teen and could hit the ball hard to all fields. Hernandez has a very advanced approach at the plate and has shown the ability to adjust. He also displayed the ability to handle himself against right-handed and left-handed pitching, which is rare for a prospect his age. Physically, he’s lean and athletic with lots of room to grow and add strength. On defense, he can play all three outfield positions and has the power to play the corners. He has also been praised for his makeup and positive attitude. Hernandez trains with Jaime Ramos, a member of MLB’s Trainer Partnership Program, at the Jaime Ramos Baseball Academy. The White Sox are the favorite to sign him.
