  2. I discovered this board as a 16 year and decided to join as a 17 year old. I'm 35 years old now. Man time flies.

  3. I actually thought it was quiet last night, but also never really think the UC is that loud for Bulls games compared to Hawks or what happens at full sox games.

  6. At 76 years old...you are a young whippersnapper to me. Like you...long time lurker.

  7. Well fine, but there still wouldn’t be anyone like Vaughn included in a trade like that. He’s way more valuable than both Bassitt and McNeil.

  8. I'd put Kath as the top prospect in the system. That Kid has a chance to be a really really good hitter.

  9. Wow. Got nervous this was from the Athletic which would have been cancel-worth as a subscriber. Manfred is such a coward.

  10. I think your enthusiasm and generally positive attitude makes you 10 years younger Poppy while my negativity makes me 10 years older....so we are roughly the same Soxtalk age. Although I do like the sound of being called a whippersnapper again.

  11. All I know is I want Yermin to go to the Mets, because Yermin and Steve Cohen is social media magic.

  12. That does seem to make some sense, except I don't think Bassitt is a 4/5 and I think I would rather the Sox get Bassitt than McNeil, and I like McNeil.

  13. Haven't had one of these in a while, so why not. Just finished The Perfectionists by Simon Winchester. Started 1619 Project. Listened to the Podcast and picked up the book after Christmas at Barnes and Noble half price hardback sale. Also in queue is Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, Land by Simon Winchester, The Doomsday Book by Marshall Brain, and It's Good to be the King about Mel Brooks.

  16. I was in a bit of an emotional mood, but I really liked “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks. I’m a big fan of his and the role he plays in many movies.

  17. Hence why I am hoping the wood in the fence holds for a little while longer and inflation didn’t hit garage doors or paint too hard (even though it probably did!). Patience is another good thing to work on.

  19. 31 here. Active lurker/poster on WSI since I was a young teen, hard to believe I didn't join here until 2013. Never looked back once I made the switch.

  20. so definitely an amazing experience. If this is something anyone has wanted to do, I'd definitely check out the A and B rows for the main 100 level sections on weeknight/less popular opponents because it was still incredible. There was a possession late in the fourth where zach crossed over, stepped back and drained a jumper that TV can't recreate. Fun stuff: - Uh, you get free drinks (alcohol and non) and a wait staff in these seats - At one point the ref T'd up Mo Bamba on the bench when the ref was halfway up the court. Nobody around us heard it, not even sure if the players heard it, but it was hilarious as players and fans alike were looking around asking each other what he said, while Mo Bamba just kept his head down, and then everyone just started cracking up at once. - Gary Harris was chatting up some Michigan State fans chanting for him to come home. To which he replied he's never going back to winter again. - It is crazy watching Wendell Carter bully "mismatches" like DJJ now and how he was aggressively running his offense. The Magic are bad, but I really like this Carter/Wagner duo and how they play off one another. They are skilled enough it may work with a talented wing and guard combo. - Ayo is freakin ripped, I wonder as he continues to gain strength what it will allow him to add to his game - Just an unbelievably bad shooting night. If Ball had a reasonable night from 3 this game wouldn't have been close, also if Demar juts hit his normal FT rate. - One of my favorite moments of being up close was when we were on bulls basket side, lonzo grabbed a rebound and you could see his eyes turn upcourt to a bulls player streaking by us. He opted against it, but it was so cool that you could see what he was thinking - Also fun to see the players direct each other on the court and talk to each other. Easy to see how there is stuff a color announcer like King can pick up on being close to the actoin vs. TV It's gonna be hard to go back to regular seats

  21. Was a long time lurker at WSI just to get Sox news and perspective from fellow fans. Moved over here after FlyingSock. I just fall into the 55+ age group so does that make me "old as dirt" for the Soxtalk community? Simply lurked around here as well until I decided to get my hands dirty and started posting during the pursuit (if that's what you could call it) of the 2 whales (Machado, Harper). The next season I discovered the wonder and beauty of Soxtalk GameThreads and never looked back.

  22. I never even noticed Rosenthal's article until I read this about his firing. In general, I always felt that MLB's various in house media did a good job covering MLB objectively, including its warts. Bad news about player behavior, team issue etc seemed to be reported there as much as they were elsewhere. I understand that he was technically an employee of MLB and technically it is a bad idea to speakly bad publicly about the CEO. But this is different. Most companies don't hire reporters to cover their companies and set up media companies to enable that. MLB makes a load of money off its media. If MLB network, MLB.com etc is truly just a paid advertisement for MLB, as it now seems, then screw them. I'll get my MLB news elsewhere, from sources not under the thumb of Manfred. Plenty available. I've suspected Manfred is horrible. Firing Rosenthal, one of the premier baseball reporters, confirms that.

  24. Absolutely not. The A’s would probably get a combination of prospects from the Sox and Mets in this scenario, but no one on Vaughn’s level.

  25. So Manfred isn’t negotiating a new CBA with the players but is instead firing an analyst on the MLB Network for criticizing in a separate outlet. Glad he has his priorities straight!

  26. Vaughn is worth considerably more than one year of Bassitt.

  27. Presumably the thing going back to the A's in this scenario is Vaughn?

  28. Rosenthal is probably the most professional and well respected person in baseball media. This should go over well with fans and the rest of the media, especially with literally no other MLB news to discuss except for the current f’ing lockout. The current lockout with MLB/owners and Manfred being almost fully responsible.
