  1. Given the age distribution here the state of the game threads is even more embarrassing.

  2. Crochet. But hopefully they'd bite on something like Cespedes/Burger, Thompson/Dalquist and Rodriguez/Ramos. Doubtful, but a guy can dream.

  4. I kinda agree with Hub honestly. I didn’t listen but assume it was more related to the offseason drama. If players can constantly benefit in MVP voting for intangible leadership and getting teammate buy in, why can’t they be hurt for the absolute opposite. Add to that his complaints look so shallow now. Seems like GB continuously grabbing DBs instead of WRs is looking pretty good! Randall Cobb is back…doesn’t seem to be the solution. Yeah, he’s very good. But Is his year so much better than Brady (who once again stayed on the field the whole year)? Anyway I’d go Cooper Kupp. That’s an insane year. We all know QBs are MVPs blah blah just like we all know Lebron James was actually MVP from like 2007-2020. Give the guy some bonus money.

  5. It's now 20 years since the idea and implementation of Soxtalk happened. (Can you believe it?!) The board really started moving in 2003; but 2002, a rag-tag group of youts, featuring our own @Chisoxfn , got the idea together of making an alternative to WSI; and Soxtalk.com was born. Many of us have not been here since the beginning, but most of us grew up as members of this board. High School, College, (Middle School - ) How old are you today, and how old were you when you started reading and/or posting here?

  7. Look, if you want to be a RH-stan, that's cool. But to the bolded, why should we celebrate something that's pretty commonplace elsewhere in MLB? Thinking of small-pocketed orgs, the Rays won the ALE "back to back," despite having a fraction of the financial might that their division enemies have/had. Oh, and BTW, they're on a back to back to back [yes, THREE postseason appearances] streak, despite having fewer resources than the SOX. Or Oakland, who made the playoffs three times in a row out of the ALW, despite having fewer resources? See, we had to sit and watch the shitshow that included: 7 consecutive losing seasons, cavalcades of bad [Samardzjia trade] and dumb [shields trade], being mired in mediocrity, as well as a deep tank to top it all off. I think we as a fandom can and should demand better out of an org that really should be DOMINANT in a division that has neither a top FO, nor deep-pocketed, large market enemy. But hey, if you want to fall all over yourself and throw platitudes at RH/KW, despite their multitude of fuckups, be my guest. I also recognize how "WSI" it is for you to feel so personally hurt about anyone not doing the same. YMMV.

  8. 48 now. 31 when I joined. I truly thought this board was full of young crybabies, but it's old crybabies. Strange indeed.

  9. Although I don't know if anyone's actually doing this given the current circumstances, that's the kind of thing you leak to a reporter to tweet when you're trying to drive teams to put a good offer on the table for a guy you're likely to move. "Oh we might not actually move this guy, we might move this other guy, so you better come to us with your best deal!"

  12. Well that's not getting you Jeff McNeil. I personally DGAF about the perceived attitude issues coming out of NY. Lack of recent success is BS. Dude is a 26% above average hitter across 1500 PA and fills a multitude of team needs. He's a 4 WAR player per 162 across his career, including his down 21. He's a very good player. A 26 YO corner IF with injury and body concerns isn't getting it done. I'd rather spend Jerry's money in FA than use the few bullets we have via trade, but if trade route is necessary, McNeil is a wonderful fit.

  15. 46, lurker since '03/'04, occasional poster since '06 (though less occasional in the last couple years.) Surprised by the range (though I guess the sample is far from perfect--would like to see the results when the board is most active). Thought it it skewed a lot younger. Way to go Olds!

  16. It won’t matter if the bears are open to anything if everyone looks at the main decision maker as someone who can’t bring them talent but will survive them anyway.

  19. I agree that sabermetrics has very little support among the senior crowd (70+). I will always believe a .320 average or 100+ rbi's or 40 HR means something and I am a big believer in OBP being a huge stat. I don't doubt that sabermetrics can uncover some hidden strengths or weaknesses for those making projections for future success. That said, the eye test works very well. I can remember watching Hunter Pence III playing CF for the AA Hooks in Corpus Christy and saying we will be seeing him soon in the ML. The eye test can see throwing to the wrong base and lack of hustle...along with great speed and playing smart baseball. Most people in the HOF would pass the eye test and the WAR type of evaluation.
