  1. Screw the extra playoff karp. Greedy watered down nonsense. Let's keep the playoffs legit. .

  2. And players are welcome to. No one is forcing either side to be involved with professional baseball. I'm firmly on the side of labor and basically anti-billionaire, so while I acknowledge the exercise, its a futile argument to me. Players generate the revenue and owners do little more than decide how much revenue they want to spend on the team while profiting off the rest. Players should be entitled to far more of those revenues and owners very little IMO. I know it will never happen, but that's my view. Don't like spending revenue on the costs of running a franchise, tough, cash out and go play elsewhere.

  4. So how many people quit watching the NCAA tournament because 68 teams get in?

  6. I don't agree with this. In baseball, more than any other sport, a bad team can beat a good team on any given day. Mediocre teams don't belong in the playoffs. I am one fan who won't buy into this con.

  7. I do think, whether Poles believes in Fields or not, the HC he brings in has to be 100% in on Fields and developing a culture to maximize his success. Just like I think Poles has to do as much too (whether he buys into Fields as a sure thing or not - he has to build a team to maximize the chances for a young QB to succeed (knowing he can always flip in a new young QB if Fields doesn't end up being the guy). But whomever the HC is - has to be 110% in. Everything they do has to be around making the most out of Fields. Not jamming some other offense or something else around him. It has to be about building the right unit for Justin Fields (and the Bears) to excel. While Caldwell doesn't excite me - I genuinely believes he has a passion to coach Fields and it sounds like he has spent a lot of time around a vision for designing an offense built around him. I still think I would love Daboll and just hope quietly Daboll has that same passion but didn't want to overplay that hand knowing that with uncertainty when he first interviewed with Bears - he had to keep his true enthusiasm close to the vest - because he knows he has a good fall back option with the Giants. I really want to read that Poles met with Daboll. Just seems crazy to hire a HC when you have a young QB like Fields, without meeting with the #1 offensive based candidate out there..and I would probably say the same about Leftwich.

  8. It would be quite delicious if ownership were forced to expose their books to the public after they initiated this whole mess to begin with.

  9. The entire voting process is BS. There is no real rules, these jerks are handing in blank ballots to prove points for consecutive years. That shit needs to stop

  10. Which is BS. It's one thing to hold an ethics argument based on the morals clause. It is another to be petty because they didn't treat you well enough.

  11. That's because a lot of it isn't about steroids, it's about these writers having grudges about interviews and access and attitudes.

  12. This Monfort stuff is wild. He may have really screwed the pooch with this one which would be a real shame.

  14. Eh, I still think there needs to be a postseason. But there has got to be a better way to make it less random.

  15. Why have playoffs at all? The Team with the best regular season record is the champion. Playoffs diminish the regular season and make it meaningless.

  17. Is this a joke - is someone like messing with me on Soxtalk and the Caruso playing through a flagrant but than waking up the next day and getting surgery, now Jones Jr almost being ready to come back and this happens. JR just needs to give a partial ownership of the franchise to Scottie Pippen and MJ to somehow get whatever curse exists from that glorious era of greatness!!! Even the timeline - for an index finger seems significant (knowing how many guys play with jammed fingers / things in splints). This is just crazy - beyond crazy.

  19. I will vote for him as soon as he gives us the results of the investigation he said he was launching into his reported positive test in the 2003 survey testing. It's been what, 13 years, so that should be coming any day now.

  20. Grobber got me through college, always listened to him whenever I was up late working on a paper or a project. Even now, I’d always have him on as I’d leave set at night. Going to miss that weird guy.

  21. Only the best organizations in baseball are capable of doing both, I'd agree. The Rays graduated 4 prospects off BA's top 100 last year and still managed to sneak 5 more on their 100 this season. The Dodgers, Braves, Astros, Yankees etc are other examples of organizations that consistently win in the majors but keep their farm systems strong. I'm not looking for the Sox to be on that level, but they're likely to be the only team in baseball that won't place a single player on any of the top 100 lists that come out this winter. Very few prospects in the system took meaningful steps forward last season, which is how you end up in a situation where the Sox are forced to deal from their big league club at the deadline last year and likely would have to do so again if they want to make a meaningful addition via trade. It's not unreasonable at all to expect the team to manage being a contender with a top ~25 system, which would just give them enough ammunition to make trades without having to deal away players that are essential to winning over the next few seasons.
