If we're going to make a trade, let's not trade Andrew Vaughn please. I'd prefer to be good for the next 5-6 years, not classic White Sox this thing into 1-2 year window. That said, this team is good enough as is to not make any major trades. Sign Conforto. Sign one of the many 2B options. Trade Kimbrel for a cheap controllable reliever. Sign a vet SP to compete for the 5 spot. Go to battle.3 points

Especially when pitchers batting is the worst thing about baseball because of how horrendous they are.3 points

While I agree with your hopes for a longer window, they've kinda already started this process to "White Sox it up." With: The way they handled Kopech and Crochet, The super-awesome strategic and tactical gem to trade for an old and expensive closer they didn't need, The awesome gift of a league minimum 2B across town, without a replacement on hand, The awesome assembly of DH types all over the field, The pending aging curves for Abreu/Grandal/Hendriks/Keuchel/Lynn, The fast approaching departures of TA and Giolito, The 30th ranked MiLB system, and The way some of the ALC foes are building themselves up, I ask: Do you really see a 5-6 year window here? I'm not too sure, unless some youngsters come up from said 30th ranked MiLB system and surprise us. We'll have to see. But for the next 1-2 seasons, I feel pretty confident in this roster. Beyond that? Who knows?2 points

From all accounts, Olson is going to be traded for a huge package in the coming weeks. I don’t think we would like what the Sox give up for a position they’re not lacking in.2 points

Matt OIson has 2 years left of control and doesn't fit a positional need, so no. Not like Matt Olson.2 points

This is almost laughable. The Sox have gone from 10s of millions to a couple of billions during the JR time frame. Pretty sure the Stock market isn't giving that return.2 points

Bauer is clearly more than a little fucked in the head and into some weird stuff, but if the court of law is not filing charges because they cannot make a case, the guy should be able to play baseball. Its not inconceivable that this was all consensual. Its also not inconvincible, in fact quite likely, that Bauer took it way too far. I haven't read about this in months so my memory is a bit foggy on it, but IIRC, the woman in question went out of her way to visit him multiple times. Why would she do that if it wasn't consensual? You don't have to like the guy or his actions, but if there are no charges, he should be able to play a sport. That being said, certainly expect LAD to what they can to get out from under the contract. I'd certainly take him in our rotation for pennies on the dollar.2 points

There won’t be an agreement with a lower luxury tax than it is now. The number will go up, not down.1 point

You can call it what you like, but there is zero chance he gets send to DH. Andrew Vaughn is already a better 1B, and he isn't starting either.1 point

I was not necessarily saying I was interested. I was asking why the Mariners would make the guy they just traded for after the season available. I would give up a couple low level prospects for him to play 2B everyday tho.1 point

I will be honest, the Bulls have WAY outperformed what I though they could do this year. That said, it isn't worth giving up a key long term piece without getting something big time in return. This isn't going to be their year anyway. They are still transitioning the roster into something that it contender worthy. There is nothing wrong with sitting on Coby and Patrick Williams until either a home run shows itself, or until its time.1 point

And at least one of those years would be with Jose Abreu on the roster, so one of them turns into a highly paid DH.1 point

Look if Vaughn can front line a trade for a star pitcher or someone like Bryce Harper? Sure. Deal him. But otherwise? Nah. This dude is going to hit. He probably won't do much else, but he will be hit and he will be cheap.1 point

or.....here me out......we can just keep Vaughn and sign Castellanos/Conforto or Shwarber? Seriously, what is the obsession with trading Vaughn around here?1 point
-
In a year or two, Vaughn could in that same vein, and he isn't close to free agency. With Jose Abreu already on the roster, that really jams things up without actually solving our positional defensive problems1 point

It's really his only value to this organization at this point haha1 point

Manfred may be a great negotiator, but he’s as unlikable as they come. For the love of god keep him out of the press to avoid angering your fanbase with his BS & lies.1 point

Let's spell this out in a single post. Bauer while in Ohio starts a relationship with a woman. It lasts a couple of years, but has several incidents. The police are called once when she says he hit her during sex without consent, police report is filed, pictures are taken. The woman gets a citation for underaged drinking out of one of those. A couple years later, that same woman takes out a protective order against Bauer in 2020, using texts/snapchats where he says he'd kill her. Bauer's attorney says everything was consensual, that the Washington Post went talking to all his exes to find one that would say something bad, that the woman had tried to extort him. However, interestingly enough, this isn't public enough for the Dodgers to find out about it, which is odd for an extortion case. His attorneys imply that the texts/snaps didn't from him, but the order is granted. Bauer signs with the Dodgers. Has a relationship with a Pasadena woman, eventually she also winds up requesting a protection order. This one goes much more public, he gets suspended, but his lawyers say the same thing and the case/order get tossed out. In the meantime, through his online persona, more than once he retweets something some woman said about him so that his hundreds of thousands of followers will go and harass the woman in question. He knows full well that he can get in trouble if he personally threatens to kill someone, but if he puts up a bat signal and a thousand of his followers threaten to rape and murder someone using anonymous twitter accounts, the police say they can't deal with that many threats and the victim should make sure that there is a semen sample left on the body if one of them goes through with it. At least one of these is a minor. While law enforcement hasn't figured out any way to deal with this type of organized harassment, "I can do this because the cops haven't figured out how to prosecute it" is about as terrible of a defense as one can offer. With all that said, 2 questions to everyone. First of all, put yourselves in the shoes of a GM. Imagine your team signed him. If there was another incident, this pattern of behavior becomes extremely relevant and an indictment towards you - you're putting yourself fully on the line for him. If Rick Hahn signed him, and next time he carries out one of the threats he sent, Hahn is out of the league for having trusted him. Are you willing to put your career on the line for this guy? And second, going along with that first question - has Bauer done anything that makes you think he has learned from these incidents and that they're unlikely in the future? I'm a believer in rehabilitation, and that if a person does their time we should give them a fair chance to get back to their lives afterwards. Has Bauer actually been punished? Is his online persona any different? Has he shown anything that suggests he won't get out of control again in his private life? Or has he kept up the same act, all the while having his lawyers aggressively go after these women? Is he a risk to do something substantially worse? If you're a GM, do you have any reason to think this will be the last incident with him? I'll hang up and listen.1 point

Cause due to the CBA, they had to agree to it in the offseason. He didn't qualify for the supermax and probably wanted a shot at making All-NBA to get it. It also would have prevented them from building the current team. I think LaVine is a lot happier with DeMar around than not. The Bulls can still offer him a lot more than any team and they're a contender and he's happy here. Everything isn't doom and gloom all the time.1 point

What about the threatening texts he sent to the woman in Cincinnati that led to the first restraining order?1 point

I can't stand anyone that abuses women. It disgusts me that the Hawks still associate with Bobby Hull. But we've got nothing here other than he enjoy weird consensual sex. I can't compare that to wife beaters unless we get some hard evidence or a conviction. They won't even go to trial on this, let alone convict him. That tells me this is likely a bunch of crap. How many people wanted Patrick Kane run out of town when those (false) rape accusations were out there?1 point

He's definitely weird, but I wouldn't have a problem with the Sox acquiring him under certain circumstances.1 point

At least two different women in 2 states have requested protection orders against him (one of which was completely unreported until the second was filed) and he has a history of encouraging harassment of women through social media and it's inconceivable that he went repeatedly over the line? Extreme tastes?1 point
