  1. This is baseball. A 100 win team probably has a better chance of losing to the Diamondbacks in a 5 game series than a bottom team in the NBA does of winning against a 1 seed (or a 16-1 upset in the NCAA tourney).

  2. That's fair. I am VERY against expanded playoffs. I think its horrible. But I it won't impact my love for the game one iota. Just think it removes a little beauty from the game.

  3. More playoff teams is total trash. Lowering standards does not result in more elite teams.

  5. More playoff teams really doesn't bother me at all. Yea Philly was lame for most of the season but they were fun at the end and Blue Jays and Mariners were great at the end of the season

  6. What wasn’t sexual assault? Just because something can’t be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court doesn’t mean it didn’t happened.

  12. Agree with Jon here. The MLBPA probably just presented its offer and told MLB to think it over, talk to the owners, and get back to them. Nothing wrong with that. I'm actually pretty encouraged with the way things are going. Yes, it's moving slowly, but neither side is immediately running to a microphone to disparage the other side in the media, or releasing snarky press releases.

  13. It really doesn't bother me. 100 game winners have lost in smaller playoffs and it was fine, we moved on. 100 game winners shouldn't be losing to teams that squeaked in

  14. So in the ESPN expert NBA MVP poll, the Bulls have won 5 straight, back to #1 in the East. DDR has gone on an unprecedented in NBA history streak, and somehow he has dropped from 6th to 7th .

  16. It just sucks for the teams that actually had a fantastic season. You win 100 games and then lose a 3 game series and go home. Its terrible.

  20. I have worked in schools for the last 15 years after leaving the corporate world both private and public schools. My take is that public schooling is dying. I am not certain why but there is no connection to community and school any longer and it is a manufactured environment. I think you need that "village" mentality and that is missing. With the division of people within a community it is getting worse. I live in Chicago and the public school system receives $28K a student and fails miserably. In private school you can educate student for about $15K.

  21. This is an interesting idea. Team defense might be the worst in the league tho with Mous at 2B. We really need a plus defender at 2B. I still really like the LaStella for Keuchel+. LaStella will miss a month or maybe two, but he's a great team fit and Leury/Romy can cover in the meantime. You can still bring in a cheap defense first utility infielder too. But without Keuchel, you obviously have to bring in a reliable SP elsewhere then. I fully expect Keuchel to be on this roster tho, and frankly I think he'll be fine as the 5. This team is plenty good enough to win the division comfortably with Keuchel as the 5. I worry more about keeping his innings in check to avoid paying him $20M in 23 than him killing the Sox from the 5 spot.

  22. Interesting article and another indication of why I am against expanded playoffs. If profits can be truly gained without winning, there is less incentive for owners to build a solid team when so-so teams can make the playoffs. Then the owners can tell fans they got their teams into the post-season and act like they want to win when they really don't care. At this point, we fans are truly spectators with no influence. If we really mattered, Spring Training would have started on time.

  24. MLBPA should try to create some sort of bird rights for players like Abreu. 8+ years on same team and over 34 years old can be re-signed without luxury tax implications.

  25. You only need 3-4 guys from that list to make an impact and the Sox are in good shape moving forward. Ideally there’s always a pitcher or two ready to come up to the big club.

  28. I know it can feel like "adversaries" but for the most part, they are fellow WS fans who have strong opinions just like you and me. A few years ago when Jose was about to become a FA you were without a doubt Jose's biggest supporter. At the end of the day, the FO agreed with you and brought him back. His performance since then has been as "you" thought and you were right in your support for him. Nice of you not to rub it into all those who said Jose was finished. If I had my way Jose will share a little more time this year with Vaughn (heir apparent) and maybe sign an extension with the understanding of transitioning to a player/coach type of situation...heavy on the "coach" as his skills diminish as they do for everyone. His fellow players look up to him and I like him so long as the young guys get to transition. Jose seems to be WS in his veins so I think he will recognize when the time comes. Konerko as an example stayed too long and I for one thought it was sad to tarnish his reputation. Age is a funny thing in baseball. Thomas and Konerko both made 15 years and the last few weren't very pretty to watch. Jose started his major league career later than those guys so I guess it's year to year.

  29. I agree. There should only be threads about players that the Sox are rumored to be interested and also acquire.
