For the record, I was first in with hip pointer. If you guys need any other inside info, just remember, I am not Steve Cishek.7 points

OK Tony. Almost daily, I am reminded why I was so glad Hawk fired him.5 points

Anyone playing the outfield is always going to have plays where the ball is just a little out of reach. No matter how fast they are. Vaughn getting injured diving could happen to any of these guys traveling at a full sprint and diving. He’s a pretty sure handed fielder and he takes good routes to the ball. He’s just slow. For Adam Engel, this is a catch on the run. For Vaughn, it is not. The question is if diving is ever really worth it. It is certainly not in ST. It may be a business decision these guys have to make during the regular season.5 points

That's not bad at all. Hopefully we learned our lesson not to play 1B in RF. Address the fucking position and stop playing games.5 points
-
It wasn't a dislocation. He wouldn't be able to get up let alone stand on it. A subluxation is possible but unlikely.5 points

Pujols just signed with the Cardinals. Just missed him!5 points

Nah, the best case scenario would be for RH to go in front of the media and say something like: "We believe in Andrew and his talent and potential. But, we've asked him to do something that isn't really fair to him, which is for him to play a position for which he really isn't ideally suited. After talking it over with Kenny, Jerry, and Tony, we've decided to announce the signing of Michael Conforto to be our everyday Right Fielder. Andrew, and some of the other younger guys will STILL have a role for us, as we pursue a World Series title. But, we've decided to give them the time and space to become everything they can, so that they can be everything we've planned them to be...."4 points

Since he was learning RF on the fly, everyone was giving Vaughn pointers.4 points

Wow, you're amazing. Who knew you could diagnose injuries from videos? That's quite the skill. I wonder why doctors even did tests, they should have just consulted you after you watched the injury happen.4 points
-
No. He’s a first baseman you can put in LF and tell him not to dive until Abreu is gone. Eloy should be the full time DH. And the Sox should still sign Conforto.4 points
-
They didn't learn a damn thing. They were already sending out state media yesterday to write shit about how it could happen to anyone in the field even though Vaughn totally lacks the range and athleticism for the position and he is going to have to dive to make plays other real OFers could make without incurring those risks. The fact that Pravda on 35th was out in full force should tell you that the team remains firmly entrenched in its tone deaf echo chamber of delusion. Penny wise and pound foolish remains the order of the day.4 points

Really hoping he's fine. But if this wasn't enough to prove this little RF experiment isn't going to age well, I don't know what it is. I like Vaughn a ton. I'd rather see him play LF than RF. He was a plenty capable in LF. I don't mind playing him in RF here and there and keeping it in his "tool bag" - but expecting an Eloy/Robert/Vaughn OF to stay healthy is pure insanity.4 points

Gonna be hard for Hahn to find another first baseman to play right field this late in the offseason.4 points

“Don’t you ever f——g talk about my RFer and 2B! I don’t want to hear those words coming out of your mouth. And GI Jane was a seriously underrated film.”4 points

Hahn's two strengths as a GM, and what made the current team possible, are contracts negotiated in-house and getting good returns for All-Star level talent, it's what makes him a good Reinsdorf GM. It sucks cause his weaknesses are the inverse and are what the team needed badly this offseason.4 points

I can’t even begin to estimate how much time & money I’ve invested in this franchise, yet a drunk, senile old man is able to question my fandom because I don’t want Leury Garcia as my everyday RF if Vaughn were out. Would love to channel my inner Pedro right now and send his ass rolling to the ground. (For the record, I’m only kidding and do not condone violence against senior citizens).3 points

mlb alert "Nick Ciuffo doubles in a run" My Brain : Ah, shoot, tie game "The white sox extend their lead" My Brain: MMM, yes, Nick Ciuffo. White sox.3 points

Nope. Most of us make the point in our plan that Sheets would go be depth in AAA. I'm sure the combo Eloy, Conforto, Vaughn, Abreu will see some time on the IL eventually. The at bats will be there in the majors for Sheets.3 points

TMZ said he did not know, I still have a hard time believing this isn't staged somehow. I mean, until the Oscars come out and ban him or do something its incredibly suspect to me. If this was for real, it was an assault on live TV and for nobody to do anything about it just is crazy to me. Maybe everyone is still in shock over this, I don't know. Also want to add, holy shit learn how to take a joke. There is nothing worse than people who get offended by a comedian. I was at an Anthony Jeselnik show at a comedy club one time and there was a guy who stood up in the middle of the show and caused a scene because he was offended by a joke. Comedians make jokes, that's what they do.3 points

How you can make this statement is beyond me and actually have people thinking it's a great Idea ! It's so simple ! How on earth do you tell a baseball player not to dive ? Every position on the field requires you to dive. Buxton gets hurt all the time. Do you think the Twins tell him not to dive ? Hi Andrew can you please never dive again on balls to your left, ball to your right and balls in front of you ? Please Andrew just give less than 100%, no one will mind at all. We don't actually care if it costs us games or the pitchers or fans think you are dogging it or get angry about it. By the way if we make it to the playoffs or World Series you can't dive in those games either ! Oh one more thing you also cannot ever lose your balance and fall down either. You must remind upright at all costs.3 points

that when players dive on the ground they can get a bruise?3 points

You have absolutely loved using WAR projections over the past several weeks on this message board. But now the Kopech projection gets a snicker? I never saw you once say that Rodon's projection was questionable because of his injury history and potential innings pitched amount.3 points

His was technically a subluxation. The femur came out but went back in. The ligamentum teres was torn during the injury. Thie ligamentum teres has an artery that carries blood to the head if the femur. Bo Jackson's issue was that the femoral head has avascular necrosis due to the lack of blood supply. This is essentially the bone dying. Thus he didn't have a hip joint and needed the hip replacement.3 points

Unlikely. He's going to be on MLB IL, and then an milb rehab assignment. And no point will the Sox option him while he's hurt. I'd say if anything this removes any chance of service time gaming (assuming he's at least going to hit the IL for some amount of time). Sox were never going to do that anyway.3 points
-
It's a freak injury. Maybe he shouldn't be out in RF, but he played a lot of OF last year. He prepared this winter to play the OF. So it's not like they just threw him out there yesterday to see what he can do. Sometimes bad things just happen.3 points
-
I actually think Vaughn has decent instincts in the OF, given he's probably never played there outside of little league or maybe high school. He just lacks any sort of speed to play out there.3 points

So my question for the Sox organization… what have you learned here?2 points

That's pretty much the best case. Seems odd they waited so long to say anything. Maybe an MRI to see if there was a small fracture for the pelvis?2 points
-
Yeah, all of that quality depth is on display already. It boggles the mind.2 points

Lol. Amazing stuff. I mean, he's gonna have to play some RF is they seriously aren't going to sign anyone and Vaughn is IL bound. But now our DH is.....Burger? Ugh. FFS, at least pick up DFA limbo Beatty from LAD at the very least.2 points

This is all true. Edema does cloud MRI.2 points

By the hush of the audience, after Will Smith started shouting at Rock, it seemed like that's when most knew it was "real" Just so crazy that Will Smith would get up literally minutes later and give a speech on showing love. being God's vessel....after literally walking up to a guy and slapping the shit out of him for making a joke about his wife's hair loss.2 points
-
60 day IL he accrues service time. Even sitting a few weeks would need a lengthier AAA stint to recoup a the extra year. Unless they find a regular alternative in RF they still need a body for the OF, so AAA for anything longer than a rehab stint seems unlikely to me.2 points
-
If Vaughn is only out for a few weeks, could this end up being a blessing in disguise? Send him to AAA once he is healthy and get a year of control back?2 points

Just scrolling google last night regarding hip dislocations and it seems unlikely to me. He got up on his own, and if the femur had popped out of the hip socket I think it’s highly unlikely he gets up under his own power or puts any weight on that leg. Different injuries but neither Robert or Madrigal were walking on their own after their respective tears. The cart coming out of course worries me because I’m just guessing using some logic and there is plenty of room for me to be wrong here. I’m trying to be optimistic but their vague statement leaves plenty of room for worry with this team’s injury luck.2 points

Seems too early to announce. I assume it would be the guy they just gave all that money too (Eduardo Rodriguez).2 points

No Sheets? Edit: oops. Probably facing a lefty to start the year. But I still feel like I would DH him and bat him like 6th or 7th and move guys around over having Mendick in lineup. Mendick, Harrison, a not ready Adolfo and Leury in the same lineup = ?2 points

Earlier in the show, Amy Shumer paid tribute to the couples in the room. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. And Jake and Maggie Gylenhall (brother and sister). Should Jake Gylenhall have walked on stage and slapped Amy Shumer for implying an incestual relationship?2 points

Athleticism, instincts, feel, experience. Vaughn played 1B for a reason and it's because he lacks the defensive ability to play a more difficult position. He looked like he was running thru quick sand. It was a routine play and Vaughn had to belly flop to make it while guys like Betts, Harper, Heyward, etc all catch that ball in their back pocket. Vaughn lacks the neccessary skills to be a big league outfielder and if he somehow avoids injury today it's just delaying the inevitable.2 points
